We thoroughly enjoyed the 10:30 AM Mimosa Cruise. Patrick was narration was informative and entertaining. The staff was attentive and the drinks were delicious( first drink free, additional drinks $5). We felt safe with 15 passengers on the tour wearing masks and social distancing. So nice to fully enjoy 90 minutes during these stressful times.

Thanks for taking the time to review your trip Ginny.
Due to the virus, we're limiting the number of passengers to make safe, social distancing easy.
Hope to see you again aboard the Gansett.

We went on the 430 boat and had Patrick as our guide. In his words, he is a “dork”, which is true. His sense of humor was a bit corny but he was enjoyable anyway. It was a 90 minute tour of the harbor and the weather was perfect! We even watched as 3 people jumped from a huge cliff into the water. Patrick said he had never seen that before and it was exciting to watch. The whole boat cheered and the captain tooted the horn as they dove into the deep water. We really enjoyed our coffee cabinet drinks and should have ordered a second. On a hot day it is a refreshing drink of milk, ice cream and coffee syrup. Really delicious! Overall I would highly recommend taking this boat tour. It was one of the highlights of our visit and a reasonably priced trip.

We took the 4:30 pm cruise. It was fantastic. The guy who gave the spiel (sorry, forgot his name) was great. He provided a lot of information in a lighthearted and humorous way. Although they offered 2 types of complimentary beverages, you could also purchase beverages, including alcoholic beverages, for a fee. My husband got Dells lemonade with vodka. I got the complimentary coffee-flavored malted milkshake. (They called it something else, but that's what it tasted like to me, and it was delicious.) I like Gansett Cruises the best because the tours are only 90 minutes; that's long enough for us. I think most other cruises offered by competitors are longer. They ask you to arrive 30 minutes before the cruise. You check in and get a 'boarding pass'. We did that, and then went right next door to The Landing and sat at the outside bar. Once we saw that the line to board the boat was about to move, we got in line. Otherwise, we would have been standing in the sun for 20 minutes.

Great cruise. Highly recommend it. We were looking for a narrated tour that would give us a perspective from the water and we found it.
Two recommendations -#1 is to not do it if it's raining. It wasn't raining hard on our tour, just sprinkling but it did impact the tour for us. Since we had booked it online and a few weeks in advance, we had no choice but to take the cruise. Many of us had to stand towards the middle of the lower level so as not to get wet. They did provide clear ponchos which was very nice and many people used them. Obviously, the weather is out of their control, so I do not in any way blame them but for those looking for a cruise maybe check the weather closer to booking to avoid this happening to you.
#2 sit on the left side of the boat (port side) as 100% of the things the narrator will point out are on the port side of the boat. We unfortunately sat on the other side and since it was raining my husband had to stand and I was sitting in the middle and had to turn around the entire tour.
We were glad we chose Gansett and would recommend this company. The narrator was very knowledgeable and very well spoken.

Booked this cruise based on reviews and was not disappointed at all. We had a family of 10 and everyone including the kids had a great time. They are very organized and the frozen drinks were a plus we did not expect. Boat is clean lots of room for everyone and the timing was perfect not too long or short of a trip. Nice to see views from the water very informative would highly recommend.

This 90 minute narrated boat trip was the perfect change of pace for my family on a hot, busy summer day in Newport. The boat ride was comfortable, the views were fantastic, and the narrator was very knowledgeable and interesting! I learned so much about Newport and its history (I think my kids just liked the ride and free Dell's lemonade, but we were all happy in the end). Each ticket comes with a free drink - choice of Dell's lemonade or coffee cabinet (coffee milkshake)- and other drinks are available for purchase. I get carsick and boat sick very easily, and felt fine the entire ride. The price is very reasonable, too. Highly recommend!

Wow! Can we have you write copy for our next brochure?
You captured all the highlights that make a tour aboard the Gansett both educational and entertaining - plus refreshing - with the complimentary Captain's Treats you described.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and come back to join us again.

We had the pleasure of taking this boat tour as part of our Land and Sea Cruise Ship excursion. Patrick was our tour guide for the Sea portion. He gave a very entertaining presentation and provided lots of fun tidbits about the many yachts, homes and sites along the way. The tour was pleasant and lighthearted.

Fabulous boat tour! Front desk/ kiosk employee Mary Kate set the stage for a really nice boating adventure. She was very charming & engaging. The boat itself was a nice size & very clean. Patrick the guide for the 90 minute ride was very informative & fun. Learned lots of interesting Newport facts along the way. The Del’s lemonade they was the perfect Rhode Island touch. Highly recommend thus boat tour!

Thanks for writing your review and offering shout outs for Mary Kate and Patrick. The complimentary Del's is one option aboard the Gansett during our day trips as is another Rhode Island concoction -- a "coffee cabinet" made with vanilla ice cream and coffee syrup. MMMM Boy!

What a great tour!! This cruise was by far the best tour we did in Newport! The customer service was excellent, the boat was impeccable but we think the best part was the talented (and hilarious guide), Patrick. He was super knowledgeable and his delivery was akin to stand-up. A winning combo! We laughed the entire time and would definitely recommend this tour.
The tour was also very informative and just a pleasure.

My goodness, what a wonderful way to explore Narragansett Bay! Patrick was an incredible guide, he was witty, knowledgeable and very friendly. Patrick told great stories about Newport and even shared some personal stories that were as insightful as they were hilarious! The boat was well maintained and the rest of the crew were friendly. If you are looking for a cruise that shows you the bay and is entertaining- this is the cruise for you!

Your calendar shows no cruise dates after 29 Sept. Are you running the 1st week of Oct?
Written August 11, 2022
How cold does it get on the boat for the sunset cruise? Going end of June (next week). Bring a sweatshirt ok or do we need more? We were freezing on a previous boat cruise in Maine. Wondering if Newport is different.
Written June 24, 2021
We always advise our passengers to bring layers -- the wind is often unpredictable out in the Bay - just not as cold as Maine.
Hope this helps.

where should I park for the 4:30 boat cruise
Written July 26, 2019
We walked from our lodging, so not sure. I remember limited paid parking just off Bowen’s wharf, and a larger parking lot east of the Bowen’s area. Otherwise, lots of parking on the streets.

If I book online, do I have to print out tickets? I do not have access to a printer where I am staying.
Written October 13, 2018
We didn’t have access to a printer either. I had the confirmation email on my phone, but I don’t remember if I had to show it to anyone. We had only booked our tour earlier the same day and we had no problems checking in or boarding.
Written October 13, 2018
Is there a head on the boat? Traveling with smallish kids and that could be an issue for them.
Written April 29, 2018
Yes -- but we encourage everyone to use the facility on shore before boarding as it's much more accommodating. Hope to see you and your family soon!

Is November right time for this drive. I have an year old son so was wondering. What is the fee?
Written November 13, 2016
I am sorry,I really can't recall what the fee was but if it as really expensive I am sure I would have remembered. Things do cost a little more there but, that's par for the area. As for the time of year, I would personally go at a little warmer time, like middle of Sept (it was great) or early Oct. It tends to be cooler up there than middle eastern us or south. Hope that helps. Enjoy!

Where do you park your car while taking the cruise
Written August 31, 2016
Best parking is at the visitors center - then a ten minute walk to the Gansett at the end of Bowens wharf. Hope to see you soon.
