We go to Newport every summer and this was our first time trying America's Cup Charter and it will not be our last.
I was looking for something different to do and came across America's Cup Charters. We opted for the daily 2-hour ticketed sail.
Our 12 meter yacht was the 12 US 17 Weatherly, which is a legend and one of the three surviving wooden America's Cup defenders in the world.
Bruce, Erica (the skipper), James, and Rebecca were super nice and extremely knowledgeable about the boat, sailing, history, and landmarks in the area. Erica had great command of the vessel and was able to make things fun while still ensuring the safety of everyone on board.
Due to Covid-19, America's Cup Charter is limiting the number of people included in each tour and requires everyone to keep their mask on. I felt completely comfortable the whole time.
I highly recommend the private charter and daily ticketed sail.

My family and I are back from a quick trip to Newport, Rhode Island where we spent two hours aboard the 12-meter yacht, 17 US Weatherly, which we booked through America's Cup Charters. It was the highlight of our trip, as there aren't many times you can sail on a yacht that won the America's Cup. The crew led by Captain Erica along with James and Rebecca were fantastic and they allowed our two sons and daughter (who are young adults) to participate in various roles during our sailing venture. It had been many years since my wife and I had been to Newport and we had forgotten how beautiful it is. The crew, particularly James, gave us a lot of great information and history not just about the Weatherly but also about the history of the Americas Cup, yacht design, technology, racing strategy, etc. Just a spectacular experience that our kids and we will long remember.

We are certainly glad you got a chance to come back to visit Newport and really glad you took the time to experience sailing on Weatherly. Erica, James & Rebecca have a real passion for sailing and love to share their knowledge of the area & their sailing experience with our guests. We are truly fortunate to have such wonderful guests like your family on board to sail with us and experience the beauty of Narragansett Bay.

We were aboard the Weatherly US-17. Built in 1958 and in nice shape. Kind, knowledgeable and courteous crew. Our 2 hr tour took us across to Jamestown, then north under the Newport Bridge to the middle of Gould Island, then we doubled back along a similar course in the opposite direction. The three well-behaved under age 12 kids that were aboard with another family found it interesting as well and were allowed to steer (with the Capt. supervising) once we were headed down wind.
Worth the price.
Also, given the COVID-19 situation at the moment, both the other passengers and the crew did a good job maintaining social distance and/or mask wearing.

jonwD6148EL - We hope we can move from your bucket list to your "must do again" list for the next time you visit Newport. Thanks for sailing with us and taking the time to review us. Despite Covid-19, we're having a great season and are able to safely get people out on the water to breath in some healthy sea air.

I did a harbor cruise on Heritage 12 Meter this past Sunday and it was incredible! Heritage is a former America’s Cup racing ship, so it tilts when sailing into the wind like you see in the races (I think at some points it was up to a 30° incline, although when sailing with the wind it levels off). The crew were extremely professional and courteous, and were very helpful to the passengers onboard.
The whole experience was about two and a half hours long and was by far the best harbor cruise I’ve ever been on. I would certainly recommend Heritage 12 for anyone looking for something more exciting than your average harbor cruise!

On July27, 2021, I went sailing with a friend. We booked our excursion through America's Cup Charter. This was my second trip to Newport. I have done it all. I have toured all of the mansions, and I have eaten in many fine restaurants. I've gone sailing, fishing, lobstering. I've done several of the trolley tours around town. By far, the best thing I have ever experienced in Newport is sailing with America's Cup Charters. Words can't explain how thrilling it was to sail on a racing yacht! The entire crew was amazing! They were not only polite and professional, but they were passionate about sailing. They were very informative and gave guests ample opportunities to participate in various tasks during the sail. Captain Zane asked every guest their name and took the time to interact with each of us. The next day, I spoke to Julie, the office manager. The company sells various shirts and caps with the names/logos of the yachts. I inquired about purchasing a cap. When Julie learned that I was leaving town the following morning, she personally drove to my hotel to deliver the cap before I left. Everything...from the beautiful yacht itself (the Weatherly) to the amazing sailing experience to the incredible staff...was simply PERFECT!

At the dock we stepped over US 22 Intrepid and boarded US 23 Heritage, a 1970 America's Cup Defender Contender, which was beaten by US 22 which was the successful defender of the 1970 America's Cup. The wind was good, but the main was reefed and with a #3 jib we couldn't bury the rail. Everyone who wanted to, got 5 minutes of fame at the wheel. And anyone who wanted to grind, got to grind. The crew was really polite and explained the wonderful sights of historic Ft. Adams, sailing under the Claiborne Pell Bridge, and the numerous notable yachts at anchor. After an hour and a half the wind died and we had to turn on the motor. A way kewl ride on a historic boat.

This is simply a great experience. We have a child with special needs and the crew was patient and understanding with her.
We sailed on the Weatherly, the 1962 America's Cup winner. Our original booking was postponed because there was a small craft advisory, but Drew did a great job touching base with us and rescheduling at a convenient time.
The captain did a great job describing points of interest and the passengers on board all had the opportunity to help sail.
If you're in Newport and you're looking to do something beyond the typical harbor cruise, this is it.

What a fun, fun, fun experience! We got lucky with a great sailing day, and, even though it started raining toward the end, it did not diminish our experience. The boat cuts through the water so quickly and can angle quite a bit. We had a fun and experienced captain and a lovely crew.

A great cruise aboard a beautiful racer! The crew were great: fun, humorous guys who had tons of info and treated total novices to sailing as well as old salts with equal respect. We had great wind and even though we only used the jib, our time on the boat was thrilling. Oh, and the crew are real pros: their tacking and even their jibing in strong wind was very smooth.

The Heritage captain and crew were wonderful! They invite you to have a hands-on experience. My daughter had so much fun hoisting the sail, and my husband could steer the boat, a dream coming true.
And sailing at the sunset was breathtaking. Highly recommended!!

Thank you for inquiring with us. We do allow young children. Youths 5+ usually really have a great time helping sailing the boat. Our crew can always find something for them to do and teach them something about sailing. Under 5yrs is also allowed though it is best for parents to keep the little ones by their side or on their lap so they stay safe and the trip is enjoyed by all. You are welcome to call us (401)849-5868 if you want to discuss further.

Will you be doing a spectator boat for any of the 12 Meter Championship regatta series in July? If so, how can I reserve a spot?
Written May 30, 2019
Julie L
Newport, Rhode Island
Thank you for inquiring, at this time all of our fleet will be racing in the regatta. We have no plans for a spectator boat and I haven't heard of anyone planning to organize one. Sorry to disappoint you but a good viewing spot might be out at Fort Adams, Castlehill, or even Goat Island. It will all depend where they race each day. You may not be able to see the races if they are off shore but perhaps you will see them going and coming into the Bay. Ida Lewis Yacht Club is the organizing authority so perhaps check their website for race details.

IS this true that they do not raise the Mainsail??? If we cannot have aTRUE sail I will have to cancel our 4 reservations on the Nefertitti??!!

We always raise the main unless the wind conditions make it unsafe to put up them main. If that were the case, the captains would either reef the main or put up a jib sail. We put the safety of our guests as our number 1 priority. If there was too much wind to put the main up, then there'd be plenty of wind to still have a fantastic sail even without the main sail up.
