This is a great little art theater. I come here to see the National Theatre Live plays and every now and then for something else. Always easy to find a good seat and the screen is a good enough size (which was something I hesitate over with little theaters like this). Lets you buy tickets well in advance. Also has very good popcorn!

Went to see a movie at this historic theater. Seats were ok but food choices were limited. Many great restaurants in the area but parking is limited and expensive

My wife and I had an enjoyable first time experience at the JPT, viewing the movie "Brooklyn". The theatre is large 300 + comfortable cushioned seats with a balcony. There is a variety of beer, wine and cocktails available, so not suitable for youngsters. Theres popcorn and gourmet chocolate available. We had a very pleasant experience and definetly plan to return.

We come here for the excellent section of art films. But with my hearing issue I was very surprised ( and disappointed) to learn that they do no have hearing assist technology. It certainly subtracted from the experience. Why not? The next time with a choice I will go to the Avon in Providence which does.

Step back in time to the golden era of movie houses. What a delightful place! My husband and I visited Newport in January and came here to see "On the Basis of Sex." Single stage and single theater. Velvet drapes. Dim lights. Additional seating in the balcony. Adult beverages are available in addition to the movie theater staples. Popcorn was fresh and delicious. Friendly staff working the concession. As with the few remaining old movie houses, do not sit behind someone tall. The seating rises, but not enough. My husband and I sat down at the end of a row in the center aisle. Great seats for viewing, but the guy in front of was not short. I'm tall so I slouched for the woman behind me, but then I couldn't see. We decided to move before the start of the show. I am thrilled that we did!!! Best seats in the house are in the back 2-3 rows on the left side of the building a few in from the left aisle. The way the seating curves, these seats were perfect. Sound was perfect too. We are so glad we stopped in. Fun way to see a movie. Parking on the street may be tricky. Meters are free in the off-season. Might have to walk from a parking lot. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

The Jane Pickens Theater is a classic. It's filled with historical charm and elegance. What's really great about it is that they show films that you will not find offered in major theaters. It's right in the heart of Newport. Parking can be tricky during the height of Newport's tourist season so give yourself extra time to find a parking spot.

My husband and I were in town for a romantic getaway. We drove past the theater on our way to our hotel, and were excited to see they were showing a movie we'd been planning on seeing. We arrived the next night, and as we walked in the doors, were welcomed by the bar! Yep - you read that right! I opted for the spiked hot chocolate, which was perfect for the cold night. The one-screen theater space itself felt historical and authentic. What a cool experience!

While visiting our son, on liberty from OCS, we decided to take a walk around Thames St. Shortly, we agreed on getting cover because the cold weather was falling upon us. My wife mentioned the movie theater we had just passed in the car across from Eisenhower Park . They were showing "Wild" with Reese Witherspoon, which I also recommend very much. The movie theater and the smell of popcorn brought memories from our own childhood. And then, there was a bar! A good variety of beers, wines and mixed drinks. Great experience! Don't let it pass, while visiting Newport!

This little bit of Newport History may not be the state of the art theater but it will surely make you feel as if you have just walked into an experience and a positive one that you will carry with you for the rest of your life. If you are lucky you just might be there on a night when the Antique Organ is being utilized. Throw away those overpriced tickets to Hollywood Blockbusters that have more foul language than a Bar full of drunken sailors. I would not say it is an Art House theater but it sure does run some amazing off center and often critically acclaimed films. A night to put away the push and shove of tourism. Relax and enjoy yourself with a loved one or a group of good friends or even by yourself if you just need a little time to be in someone Else's world for a little while.

Decor so similar to the Victorian theatres in the Uk that it is like a time travel and teleport to Malvern Theatre in Uk.
Trust me, sit there and be entertained while be surrounded by history and its memories.
