You simply cannot visit Newport without a stop at Bowen's Wharf. Just about everything you would expect in a City by the Sea can be found here. Five-Star restaurants, snack stands, quick-food cafes, several bars, a bakery, chocolate store, and of course, more than one ice-cream vendor to round out the food offerings. Lots of shopping for jewelry, trinkets, scrimshaw,... More

This is such a special place but it can be jammed with tourists. If you don't like the crowds go to Jamestown and enjoy the lighthouse instead!

...this is the place to be on a Saturday afternoon in the summer. We parked here to board our Gansett Cruise. Average touristy stores in a quaint setting. Everything, including parking, has inflated prices. But then, we are talking about Newport.

In the summer, it's absolutely overcrowded just like in Venice, Italy. LOTS of tourists and over priced shops... It is difficult to find a quiet place to sit and read unless you'll have to drive to the beach and read.

We love to walk through Bowen's Wharf, and next door Bannister's Wharf. You'll find fine dining, shopping, bakery, and much more. This is the area to purchase your sailing and boating tours of the Narraganset Bay, and it's beautiful!

So there are 3 things that I think everyone should do in Newport : Cliff walk, Mansions and Wharf. This place is a must go if you enjoy nice drink on a hot summer day. You will find 22Bowen's, Black Pearl to name just 2 restaurants, plenty of outdoor bars, shops with clothes, souvenirs... ice cream shops. Take a cruise... More

Great way to see Newport. The wharf has gorgeous views and boats! Saw more yachts here than I have in my entire life. Shopping here is a more "look-than-buy" experience. Well, at least for me. The prices were astronomically out of proportion at some of these "special boutiques". Awesome to dream at, stare at...but I hardly saw anyone buying anything... More

We went to the Bowen Wharf area to take a harbor tour. That whole area is really neat with all the docks, sailboats, yachts, restaurants, and shops. Being at the beginning of the Thames Street district is really convenient to be able to walk through and enjoy that as well.

This is a lively wharf with great shopping and restaurants with a great view of the Harbor. We spent a few days browsing and shopping, then the nights eating and dancing. Theres a Ben and Jerrys with some seating outside so you can eat your ice cream and relax. We had drinks nightly with live music and enjoyed dinner at... More
