Newport Rhode Island, finest sailing on the East Coast! Let us show you Newport Harbor, with its classic and mega-yachts and picturesque surroundings before venturing onto Narragansett Bay, with its rocky shoreline, lighthouses, beautiful bridge and mansions. With a capacity of up to 6 persons, 44-ft Lyra sails daily from Newport, Rhode Island, from mid-April through the end of November. 35-ft Wren has a similar schedule and is best for groups of up to 4. In the summer months, Wren can comfortably take 6 guests by utilizing her decks as a seating area. We offer private two-hour, half-day and full-day sails as well as advanced sailing instruction.

Captain Sam and Wren were an amazing team. It was undoubtedly the best afternoon sail we had ever been on. We also learned so much about the history, ecosystem, and nautical lore that surrounds this beautiful area. We recommend Captain Sam and beautiful Wren for an amazing sail you will never forget 🙏❤️🙏

This was such a fun experience! We are from a landlocked state and know nothing about sailing. I booked this thinking that it would be a great experience for my kids, ages 6,9, and 11. Captain Green was fantastic. We were well taken care of. He engaged the kids with having them help out on the boat and taught them about knots. Captain Green was also very flexible with our booking. His season was technically over, but he agreed to take us out on Sunday (before he had to catch a flight!) As the weekend grew nearer, it became clear that Saturday was going to be the better day for weather. We easily switched the booking to Saturday evening instead. Simon was his helper, and he was great too. I highly recommend this sailing experience!

We had a shortened sunset cruise as rain was slowly encroaching on our cruise. Capt Green made the best of our time on the water pointing out sights and answering our questions. The Lyra was well maintained and ours for the evening.
Tip - do bring a bottle of wine and snacks to enjoy onboard.

As a side note, we returned before the rain came and a refund was made for the time not sailed.

Fun experience with Captain Sam. He was flexible with our date. The day we scheduled the weather was awful he was able to change to the next day and we had a perfect sunset sail. He was accommodating to me who is a little scared of the open water. He made me comfortable and it was smooth sailing.

Fantastic!!! We can't saw enough great things about Captain Green! First and foremost, he is very attentive to the safety of his passengers while ensuring that all have an enjoyable afternoon. The boat is beautiful and Captain Green's knowledge of the area made it all the more entertaining. Booking with Captain Green is a "Must Do" when visiting Newport!!!!

Absolutely recommend … It was a first sail for my husband and myself. Our son, a naval officer with navigation experience, had been on a sail boat, but it had been a long time. Green was happy to share his knowledge and give him additional training and experience. The Lyra was a beautiful and a most special boat! We would definitely take the trip again! Green and Kat were outstanding sailors. They were knowledgeable, safety conscious, friendly and made it all look so easy. We were provided an interesting history of the area and the homes we saw. The day was clear and perfect, then when we headed back, a heavy fog cover rolled in. It was otherworldly, peaceful, beautiful and a little scary at first, but Green and Kat had us with no worries. Sailing the Lyra with Green is a great adventure and a must for any visit to Newport.

That was indeed a good sail and the fog made for a scenic finish! It was just as well that you were the final one that day, I would have likely canceled the sunset trip because the fog set in so hard!... Thank you for sharing your experiences with On Watch. - Green

My family and I had such a blast! My daughter was pretty nervous, but Captain Green helped her feel confident in no time! She even helped steer the boat! Capt. Green showed us come knot-tying while telling a funny little story to keep my daughter engaged. Very peaceful and fun experience. After sharing pictures and stories with friends, so many wanted to book their own trip! Highly recommend!

Our sunset sail was absolutely perfect! The views of Newport and the sunset were just stunning. Captain Green was a lovely host, as he provided some fun facts during our ride, a bluetooth speaker for us, pillows to sit on, and even volunteered to photograph our bachelorette party with his camera and drone! Very relaxing evening spent enjoying our apps and drinks on the water.
Even the water taxi said if he were to recommend anyone for a private sail, it'd be Captain Green!

Captain Green is an excellent sailor, was very accommodating, and knowledgeable. We booked a 2-hour sail very last-minute as our original plans fell through. Captain Green's sailboat was clean and he even had hand sanitizer aboard! We highly recommend taking a few hours out of your day to relax on the water with On Watch Sailing.

If you’re visiting Newport and want to experience sailing, look no further! Captain Green is super down to earth and friendly. He was great with entertaining our 3 year old and 9 month old on board. The tour is the perfect length of time and we felt very safe the whole time. I would highly recommend sailing with Captain Green. If I ever return to Newport, I’d definitely sail with him again.

Do they play music while the boat is out? If so, what kind?

All sails at On Watch are private. If you would like to stream music on Lyra's Bluetooth speaker with your device you are welcome to, but it's entirely up to you.
How much would it cost for a personal cruise with a lady friend and I? thank you for your time.

$290 for a very nice and informative 2 hour sail. it was a very nice time. Capt. Green also let me take the helm. It is also customary to tip 15-20%. He is well worth it! Enjoy.
