We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, walking through the few rooms available for the self guided tour, there were still docents around who were happy to provide more information or answer questions. We found it to be an interesting mix of art and collectibles, with the hint...More

Rough Point was the summer home of Doris Duke. Unlike the other mansions on Bellview Ave. she actually lived there until 1992. It's part of the Newport Restoration Foundation, which she started, not the Preservation Society which gets all the publicity. The tours are small,...More

Beautiful views and lots of art. Be prepared to stand and stroll for more than an hour. Outstanding home with a different back ground than the other Newport mansions. All art and furnishings are original to the home. I would have liked to hear a...More

The location of this home is magnificent. I could sit in the sun room and look out at the crashing waves forever.........if they let me - LOL. The tour was good and I would highly recommend this place.

I am admittedly an Architecture/History tourist and have little or no interest in tapestries, busts, large scale art, Islamic Art, etc. From that perspective, this magnificent home was wasted on me. Our tour guide was uber-well informed on all the art in the home and...More

On our latest trip to Newport we chose to visit Doris Duke's home and were very glad we did! Her family history is different then many on Bellevue and her philanthropic nature can be seen throughout Newport and possibly be responsible for "how" Newport looks...More

My curiosity has been somewhat satisfied, with the limited tour at the Doris Duke house. The Islamic art on display isn't really my cup of tea, but I don't regret the visit. The setting, on the other hand, is undeniably spectacular.

Far different than the baroque splendor of most Newport mansions, while still a superb attraction. The house is very grand, architecturally rich and amazing, without the robber-baron garish quality that permeates so many of Newport's gilded-age manors. As my friend sad, "It's like Yale, with...More
