Doris Duke's Mansion

Fun and informative tour learning about this eccentric heiress and her incredible "summer cottage". The views from the grounds are equally impressive.

This Newport Mansion is an excellent visit if you want to just visit one mansion of the several to chose between. Not only is it on a great site, having panoramic views of the sea but the guided tour is brilliant and very good value for money. The story of the owner, Doris Duke, is an amazing one and not... Our first time at this mansion. Unlike the other popular touring estates this was recommended to us by someone who grew up in Newport. It was wonderful to hear of Doris Duke and to see how she lived. You do have to use tour guide vs. self paced but the info provided on the art collections was great.

Rough Point was the summer home of Doris Duke and not part of the other mansion tour group. Doris donated her place with furnishings, so this is a nice step back in time. Rough Point is a guided tour in small groups, so the history lesson you get is very worthwhile. We visited 10 mansions on this trip and Rough... More

Rough Point is like no other mansion tour in Newport and I highly recommend the experience. The Doris Duke estate and it's contents are exactly as they were on the day she passed in 1993. Mary Jane was our very knowledgeable and pleasant docent for the guided tour which takes about 75 minutes. As you move from room to room,... More

Loved seeing this estate and learning about the Duke family. Amazing art and artifacts everywhere! The grounds were beautiful and the tour guide was so knowledgeable. So impressed to find out about the foundation and how much is donated to charity. I love that she cared for others so much!

Our extended family of 8 took a Sunday afternoon tour of Rough Point. The tour guide was excellent and was able to answer all of our questions. She was amazing! There was a lot of detail told to our group about the objects in each room, as well as information about Doris Duke and what was going on in her... More

This Doris Duke mansion is incredibly interesting and the grounds are beautiful. You really get a sense of her life in the house and why she loved it. The guide was excellent and we were able to stroll around outside after a very good tour. If you go to Newport, don't miss seeing Rough Point.

I am so happy we decided to visit Rough Point. We were in Newport for a short visit and knew we could only visit two mansions. I read that Rough Point was unique and would provide a different experience from that of the Breakers. So, that is what we did. We toured both and enjoyed the contrast. Rough Point is... More

We called into Rough Point on our drive along Ocean View out of curiosity we were meet at the gate by a very informative gate man who told us a few things about Rough Point we then decided to take the tour of this lovely house. When we arrived for the 11am tour we were the only ones on the... More
