This mansion and the grounds are definately worth seeing. The history & life of Doris Duke, philanthopist and socialite is very interesting. The mansion itself was spectacular. The art the views of ocean, the gardens and camel sculptures were all beautiful. Our tour guide was funny & informative. I definately recommend seeing this one.

Saturdays April - November you can get a self-guided tour for $10/person. It is more like a semi-guided tour as tour guides are sitting in each room and are more than willing (even eager) to respond to questions. There are also booklets in each room of each piece to see if you want more detail. This estate was owned by... More

We went to Rough Point because we were interested in seeing one of the Newport mansions that has actually been lived in in recent memory. We had been to Doris Duke's estate in NJ and wanted to learn more about her as a person and philanthropist. We had an extremely knowledgeable and personable tour guide. Though it was raining when... I purchased the 5 house tour option from the Newport Preservation Society and this house is was not included. I figured that by the time we saw The Breakers, Marble House, etc., we would be tired of seeing houses. I'm glad we were not, because this was our favorite one. Rather than a standard audio tour, this is conducted by... More

First time visiting Newport RI, and i had no expectations prior to arrival. Repurchased our tickets and had a reservation time. Our tour guide was most informative and very knowledgeable of the Duke legacy and stories behind the Dukes during their tenure at this incredible summer retreat. I was simply stunned at the location of this mansion and the beauty... More

We have been to most of the major "summer cottages" aka estates in Newport, and this was our first visit to Rough Point. Maureen was an excellent tour guide, and there were only about eight of us on the tour which was a nice number. The $25 cost seems a bit high considering the length of the tour, but we... More

This was Doris Duke's home (of the Duke tobacco family). The tour guide was excellent and it was great hearing the stories of how Ms. Duke lived in this house and how she managed to amass such a fabulous collection of art. These tours are led by a guide and they only take 12 people at a time (every half... More

Doris Duke has left America a treasure and it is well worth visiting. This home is a virtual living museum of what seems like a bygone Era of American history. So many fine details of the architecture, decor and artwork were expertly conveyed by our tour guide Charlie. Who knew there was a tie between the business fortunes created by... More

Took the trolley from downtown to the "Rough Point" stop since it was too hot to walk. Great tour guide - wonderful history, furniture, views. Doris Duke's home.

Fun and informative tour learning about this eccentric heiress and her incredible "summer cottage". The views from the grounds are equally impressive.
