I don't know if that's the status all the season, but when we arrived we were almost alone here, the water were very calm, sun was great and also was the ocean view. There's a free parking right near the beach, the access is very easy and the beach, though small, is beautiful and tidy.

The calm waters and stunning vistas at Gooseberry as well as the very reasonable admission fee are reason enough to visit. The lunch counter is a hidden gem. Lindsey has been creating marvelous, casual fare here for almost ten years and it is always good. It might be difficult to find a place to sit but if you stick around... More

I really wanted to like this beach. I went there looking forward to a relaxing time with the calm waters and nice beach. Unfortunately, we couldn't like it AT ALL. We stayed there for 10 minutes and had to leave. I've never seen this much seaweed before. But once you go a few more feet into the water, the water... More

If you don't like seaweed, do not come here. There is sea grass growing from the bottom and you have to walk through it to get into the water. It's so gross and there is too much wildlife lurking below. Really, so many fish swimming around your legs, no thanks. No waves because it s in a cove, which makes... More

The $20 parking fee probably keeps this beach a little more secluded than others. Beautiful sand and warm water. Lifeguards on duty. Bring your coolers, umbrellas, and chairs. Short walk from the parking lot, and concessions with bathrooms very handy.

The beach was not much of a beach. Beautiful views, but the water was dirty and lots of seaweed everywhere ... on the beach and in the water. They charge $20 to park during the week, and I understand $25 on weekends. There was a lifeguard on duty. I love Newport, but we have yet to find a beach there... More

Not sure it was worth 20 dollars to park. Its nothing like real beach. Its ok, pretty to walk around, but water is dirty and way over packed.

We learned about GB from some friends who swore by it. We've been coming to Newport since 2005 and had no idea it existed. If you are like most, you'll come here a few times on your trip. Monday through Friday is $20 if you park, $5 if you walk (it's 2 miles from Thames) don't try it. Saturday and... More

Located right on Great Ocean Road this place is a gem. The views are to die for and with rocks to climb, a dock for kids, lifeguards and calm waters this place is worth every penny of the $20 parking fee for a weekday. Parking was easy and we used the showers/ changing room prior to leaving. There is a... More

The water was warm and there weren't really waves so it's great for families with children. Some spots are thick with seaweed but the water that was free of it was clear all the way to the bottom. We loved climbing up the big rock structure. Parking was $20
