Prepare to spend some time, because it is 2 1/2 miles around the outside walls of this historical fort. Built in 1799 for costal defense, it comes complete with moats, drawbridges, and underground tunnels. The structure has been restored to almost perfect condition, and gives...More

We really enjoyed this entertaining and educational tour. Mike began promptly - tours on weekends start on the hour. Throughout the tour, we stopped at numerous places and learned of the fort’s extensive history. Mike was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We...More

We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon. They give guided tours on the hour and since we were there at the bottom of the hour we walked the outside of the fort instead. We got to see most everything except the inside quarters. Walking around...More

The hour long tour was excellent! Our tour guide Greg was extremely knowledgeable, a great speaker, and even cracked a few jokes! The fort itself is amazing and an incredible part of our national history. We will certainly be doing the tour again.

Impressive fort and impressive tour. Our tour guide, Greg was both entertaining and informative. We took the tour with our 2 young children and everyone enjoyed the hour long narrated tour. The kids especially liked exploring the tunnels beneath the fort. It's a beautiful fort...More

Fort Adams provided an interesting and educational tour. Our guide was super knowledgeable a full of fun facts. The tour lasted a little over an hour. Not a problem for us, but there was a decent amount of walking, stairs and uneven terrain. I really...More

I am sorry as I do not know. I went before it all started as a friend works for Sail Newport. You might google the Volvo races and see. It is a beautiful sight hope you go.

Newport Jazz Festival (1 Replies)
I am making my first foray into buying tix to the Newport Jazz Festival. We want to see the Trucks & Tedeschi band on Sunday at 11 AM at Fort Adams State Park. We can buy reserved seating for $98 or general seating for $81. Any thoughts on what to expect in either section. Of course, we would like to go the cheaper route, but they may be located in Siberia. Also there seem to be two general seating areas. Can we bring out own chairs. Many thanks

The general admission seats are 1st come 1st seated. If you get there when the gate opens you should be able to get a great seat. Bring lawn chairs and cooler (no glass or alcohol), no umbrellas so bring a good hat. bring a blanket to lay on.

Newport Folk Festival visit (2 Replies)
Hi all I am looking into coming to Newport for the Newport Folk Festival. I would be driving from NJ and would like to attend the Sat July 31st show. It starts at 11:30am from what i read on the site and it is at Fort Adams State Park. I have a few questions: 1. Is this state park a good venue and is the festival a good experience? Will I need to get there very early to get a seat with a good view? 2. Are there any hotels/BB/Inns nearby or within a hour or so drive that are...More

These details have been covered in detail here many x b4. Fort Adams, grass seating, first come first serve, bring own chair, sun/rain protection. Npt FOlk well it's a historic site and festival- usually hot, humid, lots of boats around, different venues and stages. You can take water/harbor taxi to site to avoid parking and traffic issues. Try Middletown for other lodging options, but it's still high, but not as high as Npt. Plenty of beaches and cool things to do in the area.

Newport-Block Island Ferry Overnight parking?? (5 Replies)
Hi - We are planning on a couple days on Block Island and then a couple days in Newport this summer. We'd like to leave the car in the free parking lot at Fort Adams state park for the time we are on Block Island. Can anyone say if it's OK to leave the car there overnight? We'd like to leave it there for 2 nights. Thanks in advance - MMK

I think if you call Sail Newport, who have a facility at Fort Adams they would know.
