This is a very beautiful drive with many places to stop and take pictures or take a hike. It has stunning views of the trees and it is a very nice drive. However, it is getting so busy, and the road is very narrow in several places, so if you have anything larger than a pickup, you risk not being able to maneuver very well around other cars. The weekends seem to be the busiest time but it is lovely when the fall colors are showing. So go early or in the morning when the sun is just coming up or go later in the evening before sunset if you can.

This is a very nice drive to immerse yourself in the Utah mountains. Lots of winding roads (my ears were popping).great hiking trails. A few bathrooms here and there. Different sites to see. Make sure you wear appropriatee shoes, no sandals.

American Fork canyon has one of my favorite hikes and has amazing reservoirs to play in. Tibble fork reservoir has freezing cold water, but the beach is a great place to rest and enjoy the views around you. After a long day hiking and moving, it was great to just rest here for a while and watch nature. My new favorite trail is the Silver Lake trail. It is a dog friendly, moderate/difficult hike that takes you to you a gorgeous lake hidden in the mountains. It is a 4-ish mile round hike that takes you about 3,000 feet above where you started. I definitely had to work to get to the top, but once your there the view is breathtaking.

Every year we take the whole family and drive up American Fork Canyon and follow it over the mountain (Alpine Loop). The fall colors are so pretty. It is hard to say when the best time to go up the canyon because each year is different. Even if the fall colors are not there it is still a great drive. They close the loop for the winter after the snow falls.

With a lovely river, rich pines and furrs, oaks and aspens, Timpanogos Cave Nat'l Monument, Tibble Fork Reservoir, Timpooneke Trail, Bear Trail, Pine Hollow Trail, Mary Ellen Gulch, and numerous other 'attractions' for the lover of outdoor beauty, this beautiful canyon has it all. But with the increased traffic flow, and the threat of Snowbird Ski Resort building in Mineral Basin, this beauty is threatened to become a highway that's hard to maneuver. Ride bikes or hike in this canyon, carpool, and do what you can to preserve this oasis before it's gone.

American Fork Canyon is a short drive (10-15 minutes) from the Alpine Exit off I-15. With just a short drive you can be in the beautiful Utah mountains--they are equally beautiful in the summer and the fall. While in the canyon you can picnic, camp, fish, and hike to Timpanogos Cave. You can take the drive called the Alpine Loop and drive through the canyon, up over the mountain, and down into Provo Canyon. This drive is especially popular for local residents when the leaves in the mountains have turned in the fall. If you want to take the Alpine Loop, stay to the right fork of the canyon.

A drive through American Fork Canyon, on what locals call the Alpine Loop, is something you'll never forget. The views are stunning, and they change every so many yards. Not long after you enter the canyon, there will be a parking area on the left, with bathrooms, a picnic area, and a little walking bridge over a mountain stream. It's a fantastic spot to stop and look around, and there's a walking trail. Continue up the canyon, where you can go left to Tibble Reservoir or continue straight, all the way into the Uinta National Forest, past Sundance to Heber City near Deer Creek Lake. The road is narrow, so be careful, especially on weekends when there is a lot of traffic. Watch out for hikers crossing the road, and look for large RVs or trucks pulling campers. In the tight corners, these large vehicles -- because of their length -- might need part of your lane. Farther up the canyon, on the right, there is a parking area that gives access to horse, bike, ATV, and hiking trails. The canyon is a pretty amazing place that you'll want to experience again and again!

Beautiful canyon drive with plenty of high rock walls to look at as well as amazing mountain views. The Alpine loop is stunning any time of the year. There are plenty of hiking trails and a wonderful campsite along the rivers edge. If you want to nice drive with plenty to look at from your car window, you have it. If you want to park and take a hike or two along mountain tops or rivers edges, its there for you. A picnic lunch or hotdog roast over a fire in clean picnic areas along the rivers you have it too. Well worth the time. A week day trip will be less busy. Can be busy on the weekends.

This is one of the most beautiful canyons in the state, unfortunately it is also becoming one of the busiest. With the improvements at Tibble Fork, a lot more people are up the canyon every weekend.
