We just completed the House of Mystery room here and were very impressed the experience. Ambiance was great and the puzzles were perfectly challenging with a great variety. Highly recommend this experience if you are looking for a great escape room challenge.

Over the last few years, I've done a handful of escape rooms in the area and the The Vampire's Tomb at Lock & Key is among the best. It was challenging enough that we made it out with just a few minutes to spare. The entire group had a great time.

This was by far the best escape room I've ever done! It had a series of challenging puzzles that required thought, but they were not so difficult that they couldn't be solved. If we spent too much time on one puzzle or were headed in the wrong direction, a clue mysteriously appeared under the door. Although we didn't solve it in the hour allotted, we all loved it and would go back in a heartbeat. Definitely one of the best new attractions in Buffalo!

Thank you so much for creating a great time for our staff's holiday party. The room we were in was a serious challenge! Can't wait to go back and do the other room

This was our groups first attempt at an escape room, it was both fun and challenging. I read other reviews prior to choosing Lock & Key and must say I feel we made the best choice. Jared explained the rules of the room very well. I liked the fact that there are cameras in the room and he's watching from the outside, this allowed him to slide timely "clues" under the door if we seemed to be stuck on a particular puzzle. The clues were well done, not give aways and in some cases they were things we had already considered but needed to go back to. I'd read reviews for other escape rooms where someone on the staff is inside the room with you and I didn't like that idea, seems like it would change the team dynamic. Also you can participate with group of 3-8 and won't be forced to play with people you don't know. I do like that they don't make you play with strangers just to maximize the money made per room, this would take away from the experience and the whole point of this IS the experience. If you're a fan of 'The Walking Dead' you will really appreciate the 'Virus Outbreak' room the puzzles are very well thought out and engaging. We did solve all of the puzzles with the help of a few timely clues but unfortunately didn't make the time to open the last combo! All in all great experience and would definitely recommend. Good luck to you and I hope you get to be among the 30% that 'escape the room!'

I've played most of the major escape rooms in Buffalo and Jared and Lock & Key is easily the best. So good, in fact, that I played both his rooms on back to back days because they're so addicting. A few things set Lock and Key apart:
1) The rooms are extremely rich and feel engaging. Some rooms I've played felt cheaply put together, you can tell that Jared has spent good time (and money) compiling the items and layout of his rooms.
2) The rooms require the right balance of puzzle solving, observation, and communication. You won't spend your entire time searching for a note scrawled in some corner (though you may have to search some!), nor will you have to brute force through impossible puzzles. The rooms are really well balanced.
3) Jared and staff give the perfect level of hints. They have a good read on when you may need a bit of help and they provide just that, a bit of help. Too often do escape rooms give away answers rather than "nudge" teams in the right direction. You feel accomplished finishing his rooms, not like you were gift-wrapped the answer.
Whether you're new to escape rooms or a veteran, Lock and Key provides thoughtful rooms and great service. Do yourself a favor and book a room soon.

So much FUN!! Group of six friends headed down to Elmwood for this exciting adventure. The location is on the side of the building and down the stairs, street parking is available.
Our host provided just enough information to make the adventure make sense but also keep us guessing. He provided only a few hints during the game, again just enough to help us move along but not give things away.
The room was interesting and fun with enough to keep our group all working in groups of two to solve the puzzles. We finished with a few seconds to go.
Looking forward to the next room. For sure will go back.

What a fun time! Went on a double date with another couple. This was definitely something different to do and turned out to be a lot of fun. We did the zombie/vaccine room. (Not scary if you're worried about this like I was). We didn't end up solving it within the hour allotted, but were told it was too bad for first timers! Great location on Elmwood near bars/restaurants to cap off the evening! We received an email coupon after visiting to try out one of their partner escape rooms! Well definitely be trying another room!

We visited Lock and Key during a family vacation (6 adults). The entrance was a little tricky to find (as we have found is the case with some of the escape rooms we have been to in Washington D.C.). There is a sign out front that leads down an ally, you are buzzed in and then head to the bottom floor. Once we were in the place looked nice. It was clean and well labeled. We were able to escape the zombie room with 6 minutes left! The activities really had us going and the theme was incredible. We really had to rack our brains to figure out some of the puzzles. Highly recommended!
