Thin Ice is definitely a store you should visit if you are looking for unique items from the Buffalo area. I was told that 90% of the items in the shop were made locally. There is quite a selection of gifts (wood, glass, jewelry, pottery, metal, fiber - as stated on the business card). I had needed a Buffalo postcard and found one with a picture of (wait for it) chicken wings!!!!

This boutique shop is located on " Elmwood", a street lined with popular restaurants and unique shops. A popular , trendy locale. At least that's what I was told by my family as I visited over the Thanksgiving holiday. I loved this shop! So many different items..chimes, hats, vases, jewelry made by local artisan etc etc.! I wish I had more room in my luggage as I would have purchased more! Prices soo soo reasonable for quality and uniqueness. Staff very friendly and helpful. Love this place and will go back every visit to Buffalo for sure!!!

...and a dance of wonder it is to walk into this lovely gift shop filled with the wares of some of the finest of our local artisans!
The owner herself is on site much of the time, and invites visitors into the space with an attitude of quiet kindness and a calm enthusiastic air of encouraging us to meet her children(!) ... to look, explore, exclaim, ask, touch, and revel in all the uniquely beautiful items.
Her Jewelry is essentially one-of-a -kind; there are hand-crafted wooden and pottery bowls and plates, silky scarves, hand-blown glass and fused glass, wondrously delicate 'vases' made of slate layers and hollowed to hold flowers or grasses, hand-sewn leather, wall art, silk-screened apparel, cards, wind chimes, hand-decorated glass serving pieces, handbags, and so much more I could go on for ever.
In fact, I could have been very happy, indeed, to choose any one of a dozen pieces for my friend's birthday - BUT THEN I saw the 'perfect' gift at a perfectly affordable price!
It's easy to see that each piece has been chosen because it reflects the creative, insightful, and/or whimsical nature of the artist's heart and craft.
Thin Ice will buoy you up in serene, joyful, gallery-like celebration of the marvelous skill and artistry of fellow-Western New Yorkers ! Support this very special shop! You'll love it! (on one floor with just a couple of steps in one area, and easily navigable)

Thin Ice fills a need in the city and the Elmwood Village by carrying the most diverse selection of American handmade high quality crafts in WNY. Everything from glass, ceramics ,wood ,jewelry, metal, and other media can be found here. This makes gift giving a pleasure to shop for and the owner Terese is very knowledgeable and helpful in assisting with any questions about the beautiful and unusual items she carries. Obviously Thin Ice is filling a void in the Buffalo area and is so well received that the store was able to expand into the next retail space effectively doubling the sales area. A somewhat unknown and overlooked part of the business is that Thin Ice offers classes and workshops about all sorts of things related to the things they sell. A recent workshop was held on making a custom "aroma' or essence for each customer by blending essential oils .SUPPORT AND BUY LOCAL !!

I love to buy local (whether I'm traveling or at home), I love to support artists, I love to decorate my house with unique artifacts not found at Target - and I love to share my finds with my friends and family. Thin Ice features hundreds of items by dozens of artists. I go there whenever I need the perfect gift. As I understand it, if the items aren't made by Western New York artists, if they are of high quality Teresa will stock them if they are handcrafted in the US.

Pottery, glassware, jewelry, tshirts, soap, handbags, clocks, kitchen items, frames, windchimes, art, books - it's all here and so much more.

In the past two years, the store has expanded into the adjacent unit and that side has been gradually filling up with even more interesting items.

If you love to browse, love to bring home something special from your trip, love to surprise someone you love with a special gift - skate on over to Thin Ice. You'll find a new treasure.

These girls are very nice, professional and accommodating. They have partnered up with some of the best local artist's and crafter's to bring you some fantastic products. I bought a handmade leather wallet and love it.
