- Jon L11 contributionsA great metropolitan buildingThe city hall has a great Gotham city feel. You can take an elevator to the top flor and get a unique view of the region. - Dgood105Avondale, New Zealand2 contributionsBrilliant Frank Lloyd Wright ArchitecturePrimary Reason for the trip was to visit the Martin House and gardens as well as the Martins summer home about 30 minutes away on the shore of Lake Erie, both designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Whether your a fan of his architecture, to see and hear about his his design brilliance is worth the visit. Of course if you are in Buffalo a trip to Niagara Falls is a must. We had wonderful views from Goat Island. Although not originally part of our plan the Buffalo AKG Art Museum is a must as well.Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 25, 2023
- WYNomadSpearfish, South Dakota95 contributionsBeautiful interior and exterior architecture and a rooftop viewing areaIf you appreciate Buffalo's historic architecture, take 15 minutes to view the lobby and take the elevator to the 25th floor/walk the final 3 floors to the rooftop viewing area. It was under construction while we were there, but there were informative yesterday/today photos for each viewing window. Terrific view of the harbor and Lake Erie.Visited October 2023Written October 3, 2023

While there to attend a preservation board meeting in late February, I was astounded by the beauty of the lobby and the halls that I had access to. A movie, "Nightmare Alley", was being filmed there at the time and some of the floors were being transformed to look like a spooky hotel! The history of Buffalo is etched in the decor, with representations from the indigenous nations of the state and other historic events. I want to come back for a tour!

We had come to Buffalo for an extended weekend to celebrate our anniversary. I am a planner and like to research different things to do. I found that the City Hall has and observation deck so I figured it would be a beautiful Skyview look over Buffalo. We arrived this morning to find out the observation deck was not only closed, but under construction. What a major disappointment after all the research I did to make this special. Not one word of this mentioned on any website I searched and researched. So so sad and upsetting.

Buffalo City Hall has a free observation deck on the 26?th floor.
It has small windows in each direction. You can see Canada; Lake Erie; downtown; and a couple of historic neighborhoods.
It's dimly lit and sparse, but don't let that deter you - the views are fantastic!
Definitely worth spending a half hour if you're staying downtown or passing through.
They also have a basic but decent cafeteria in the basement. Downtown Buffalo doesn't have many fast food / quick lunch options.

We parked and went into city hall. You have to go through security. Take the elevator to the 25th floor and walk up 3 flights to the observation tower which was great. Walk all around. We went on a day that weather wise was fantastic and you could see forever! Inside each window tells you what you are looking at. Go, you won’t be disappointed..

I always take people up to the top of City Hall when they come to visit. There are free guided tours (I believe around noon daily by Buffalo Tours), however if you don't make it then - no worries. You can climb to the top (take 2 elevators and then climb just 2 flights) to see an aerial view of the City & the Niagara River. It is really worth it & is reminiscient, to me, of climbing to the top of a church tower in Europe. The experience isn't something that is available a lot in our country, I feel. Couple this with a walk by the Waterfront, lunch at The Hatch, or pay to view the Naval Park (all near to each other & near to City Hall) and you have a great afternoon that is really cheap.

This art deco treasure lies at the western edge of a very large roundabout. It towers 28 stories, making it the tallest city hall in America. The exterior and the interior vie for your attention to detail. In a word, this building is phenomenal. You can take the elevator (free) to the observation deck which provides a beautiful panoramic view of Buffalo and the Ontario shoreline and the fast flowing waters of the Niagara River as it takes its flow from Lake Erie. This takes place in the heart of the downtown walking venues.

There is no booking, but the tours start a fixed times. You can take the elevator, followed by stairs, to the roof lookout. Parking lot can be found a block away. Have a good time - we did.

Can one walk to this from the train station?
Does anyone there speak English?
Are the waters warm?
Thanks for the information.
Do you know of any tour guides in Viterbo?

Yes the downtown train station is walkable. The Depew station is abut 10 miles from downtown. The water in Lake Erie is in the mid 70's right now. Colder of course in the early summer and fall. There is one sand beach close to down town near the small boat harbor, but the water there is un-swimable. You need to head south of Buffalo for the best beaches or to Canada. They have the best beaches. But you'll need a passport or enhanced drivers license to enter Canada.
Yes even though we are neighbors with Ontario Canada, we speak English, and so does Ontario
Is it open on Saturdays?

Is this ok for 65-68 year olds?

The question is, "Is this ok for 65-68 year olds?"
It depends less on your age than it does your ability to climb 3 flights of stairs. Only you can assess your health level regarding climbing stairs.
I would note that if you have a fear of "heights", the view might scare sensitive individuals.
There is a provision for handicapped individuals to obtain access at the elevator drop off level. Since I didn't use that option, I have no additional advice. Call first to avoid being disapointed.
