What a fantastic little enclave in the big city of Buffalo! I stayed at the Lenox Hotel (unrenovated at the time). We were able to basically walk everywhere we wanted to go and the restaurants and bars were top notch. Met a lot of great folks, everyone was very friendly. The streetscape and historic atmosphere were top notch; I only wish PHOENiX had anything CLOSE to this! ! I can't wait to return!! Highly Recomended!

Popular area for grabbing a bite and some drinks in the evening when we are in town. Very close to downtown hotels.

We stay at the Holiday Inn at Delaware and North once a year to visit downtown Buffalo and always stroll in Allentown. A great mixture of retail, pubs, restaurants and street life. Pride in the neighbourhood is obvious - street art, flower pots, store front attractions. An eclectic area.

We had a chance to visit Buffalo last week. Typical Canadian visitors go to the outlet mall or Walden Galleria for shopping. We decided to do something different. On the first Friday of every month the art galleries on Allen Street (or Allentown) open their doors in the evening. What an experience! There were street musicians and people reciting poetry on the corner. It was great and reminded me of Greenwich Village.
I would suggest people to check out Allen Street and Elmwood Avenue too. It's a fun area and there are no Outlet Stores in the area!!

Don't forget to check out Gabriel's Gate for awesome buffalo wings. Crispy and delicious! Bar-b-que ribs were large and tender.

I live in Allentown and love everything about it. It is safe, there is always something to do, and everything is in walking distance. There are bars, restaurants, book stores, art galleries, festivals, art galleries, etc. Everything I need is in walking distance of where I live and everyone in the area are very nice and neighborly. It is close to 2 major highways so it is easy to get anywhere in Western New York. It has the charm of city living without the chaos and is very charming. I love living here and will continue to live here. Love it!!!!!!!!!!!

Outstanding neighborhood of late 19th century homes, apartments, and businesses. A great example of a preserved and living neighborhood built before the automobile, and traditional home of Buffalo's "bohemian" culture. Busier than Elmwood, and slightly edgy in some areas, it also contains some of the greatest concentration of outstanding small-scale architecture in the city, and maybe even in the country. It almost feels as if it was a city within a city.

An evening is not complete in buffalo unless you stop by any one of what seem to be the myriad of Hot spots this historic section of downtown possesses. Here are my "top 10" picks of my favorites (not necessarily in order): Mothers, Atmosphere@62, Scarletts, Founding Fathers, The Wine Bar, Gabriels Gate, The Hardware Store, Fat Bobs, Colter Bay, Snooty Fox, the Chop House,

This is a fun and funky area for anyone looking for handmade things, local art, good food and good conversation. There is a bit of a rough edge to it that could be improved [ gardens and litter pick up] but there is a certain amount of charm here. I enjoyed window shopping and people watching. I had a great lunch at a corner pub [ sorry the name?] . It was decorated with wood, horns etc, copper seats etc. Great food and nice staff on Allen Street. I also bought a cute handmade hat at Pine Apple Company. This little shop has art, pet clothes, hats and other cute unique items. The guy that works there was most friendly. Allentown is an up and coming future hot spot for locals and tourists alike. Get there first.

I was in Buffalo for a conference and looking for a cool area to go out on a Saturday night. I discovered Allentown while I was on a walk during the day. Lots of cool looking bars and just a transitional neighborhood with need architecture and street layout. It has a very eclectic vibe to the area. A few of my friends and I returned on Saturday night. There were a lot of bars to chose from- but many of them were sparse early in the evening (around 10 p.m.) As the night wore on the bars filled up. All of the bars were on the dive end of the spectrum- but not craptastic in any way. What I really liked about the area that night was how diverse the people were. In the streets and in the bars there just all kinds of people- mostly but not exclusively under 35. Even for the people that were over 35 they were pretty boss kind of people. This area was pumping until the wee hours.
If you are someone that likes structured or commercial types of establishments or if you are uncomfortable in very diverse populations, this area won't be for you. Not that you will have any troubles or won't have fun, I just think you will like other parts of town better. This area has some grit to it.
Enjoy
