We had a chance to visit Buffalo last week. Typical Canadian visitors go to the outlet mall or Walden Galleria for shopping. We decided to do something different. On the first Friday of every month the art galleries on Allen Street (or Allentown) open their doors in the evening. What an experience! There were street musicians and people reciting poetry... The area is more artsy than upscale. It is considered a gay neighborhood and there are several great bars in the area for both gay, straight, and mixed crowds. It is an odd mixture of upscale, trendy, and middle class. If you want great local artists, this is the area to look. There is something for every decorating budget.

This is and has been an entertainment night spot for as long as anyone can remember. Restaurants, bars, dancing all of that and a great street vibe throughout the area.

This is a local event where the roads are blocked to enable shops of handicrafts and art and fancy jewellery with some latin american music and antiques adding colours to the art fest. This was a very interesting place for roaming around. This happened June 11 and June 12, 2016. I am not sure when it happens again, when it... More

It was a good summer afternoon to stroll in the area. It's busy but definitely has a community character to it. The shops are mainly "local".

sort of the "soho" side of the Elmwood village (see other review), this area has loosened up quite a bit with the elimination of one-way driving, make it accessible from all directions... not a LOT of shops, but active nightlife, too active for some, particularly as the hours get larger, then wee small

Such a pretty area. Love to look at all the buildings. Would love to live in this area. We visit every June for the Allentown Art Festival. They have some beautiful quality art to see.

Trendy, hipsterish part of Buffalo. Some interesting bars and nightlife. Nice, historic residential side streets. Reminded me a little of Toronto's West Queen West areas.

There are all sorts of restaurants , galleries and boutiques, kind of like Greenwich Village...and right nearby is the Elmwood Village a block apart.
