Wonderful last Sunday sailing adventure onboard the Spirit of Buffalo. Nott only was it a picture perfect day, the crew stayed attentive and did whatever was asked to make this an very enjoyable experience. I recommend making reservations online when they start back up next season because many who came up to the ticket booth were turned away for lack of space.

We did the evening cruise, which offered great views from the water of the sunset over Lake Erie and the moon rising over the city of Buffalo. After leaving the slip, we traveled west along the shore of Lake Erie for about an hour before returning. From afar, we had great views of the grain silos and the city skyline. The sailors on the boat were very skilled and friendly, taking time to talk and interact with the passengers. The Spirit of Buffalo is a smaller boat, which makes the ride much nicer than a huge cruise with tons of people. The interior of the boat is beautiful wood, although the best ride is still topside. Restrooms and drinks are available the entire time. I highly recommend this tour; my family had a really nice evening.

We set sail for two hours in perfect evening weather on Spirit of Buffalo, sampled excellent craft beers from OFW Brewery Co., sailed into Lake Erie with main, fore and stay sails flying, the sun setting, the moon rising. Captain Angela and crew are pros at handling the 73 foot two-masted square-rigged topsail schooner. Great views of Buffalo Naval Park, the Outer Harbor, Lake Erie, the Buffalo skyline. Highly recommended.

I live in Buffalo and wanted something fun to do with our out of town guests. I looked at boat tours available in Buffalo and decided on the Spirit of Buffalo . I had seen this ship at canal side previously , and thought this would be something fun and different . We chose the late night cruise from 8:30-10:30. It was very easy to book online and a pleasant night . I would not recommend getting the pre-dinner package ; they only allow you certain choices at the restaurant . You are better off finding your own dining option prior to the cruise . The crew was so friendly and very helpful . There is a full bar on board ; and this particular cruise is 21 +. Very clean and well run operation . As a resident enjoying my city , I highly recommend this and would do this again .

The crew was really polite and friendly. The sail was really beautiful and despite a little rain the captain took great precautions by not going near the storm. All the crew was very knowledgeable! Would definitely go again :)

The boat was nice and everything it just seemed way too mellow. The music was so low you could barely hear it and people seemed bored. There was even a wedding party on board and I thought they would be a little lively and fun but they just sat around and didn’t say much. The guys were just standing around with their hands in their pockets looking bored. At times it was just almost completely silent. There wasn’t much room to move around and people pretty much just were glued to their seats. I know it’s not really set up to be a party boat but it seemed that no one had any fun at all. The crew was nice but not very engaging. The ride is quite beautiful it just could have been a little more upbeat.

We had a great time. It wasn't overly crowded and the ride was long enough for us to enjoy a few drinks from the cash bar with music playing in the background. We were able to watch the sunset during our evening sail along with taking plenty of beautiful pictures. The staff was very friendly and they also gave us blankets to keep us warm. I would do it.

When our friends invited us to join them on board the Spirit of Buffalo, little did I realize the memories of a lifetime I would be making. By all means, GO! I have often sailed on boats with motors, but the beauty and freedom of being under sail is matchless. Buffalo is even more picturesque from the water. Go and Enjoy!

It wasn’t a sunset cruise. The Spirit of Buffalo set sail at 8:30, seven minutes after the sun dropped below the horizon. It wasn’t much of a sunset anyway, very little color on a cloudless sky. We weren’t all that far out of the inner harbor when the moon, a super moon, huge and orange, rose in the east over the city. It was a truly spectacular sight, worth the price of admission alone. As darkness descended the lights of the city came up, a gorgeous, illuminated cityscape.

And that was the first hour.

Although sails were up, we really didn’t sail, none of that exhilarating flying over water. Instead, we dilatorily meandered around in the outer harbor. Hour two turned sorta boring. We, a large group of friends, fifteen or sixteen of us, mostly stood around chatting. All very nice but we coulda just as easily been in someone’s backyard. And it got cold. Some of us are hip the temperature drop at night out on Lake Erie. For the others the crew handed out blankets. I was ready to head back long before the boat turned back.

Would I do it again? Maybe, but differently. I’d go earlier in the season when the sun sets so much later. It might be a great ride on the Fourth of July. If you’ve ever watched Independence Day fireworks from a West Side rooftop, you know what an amazing evening it can be.

I would do it again, maybe try one of their other boats. I felt the price was reasonable for a two hour ride. The crew was great. They do have a bar and will bring you drinks. Credit cards are charged at the end. Fun music. They also have a small bathroom. It gets significantly colder the further out you get. Bring layers!!! Padding on the seats would have been nice. It gets a little boring once you are out on the lake and the engine is off. The break wall blocks any view of the lake and opposite shore and the Buffalo shore isn’t much to look at. We wished we had brought binoculars. Cool experience though.
