End of the Northern route road

Worth the drive - It was a beautiful lookout. This is where you turn around & head back and look at everything on the other side of the road that you missed

If you have traveled to many places on Earth, you may look at the photos and think "that's a nice view, but there are many better ones in other parks". I can't express strongly enough that a photo cannot capture the feeling of standing at the top of the hill and looking out over this expanse. Our hearts were immediately... More

To really enjoy this view, you must get out of your car and walk to the top of the hill. Absolutely spectacular, particularly late in the day within an hour of sunset. Be very careful with small children, as there is not railing and the dropoff is great and unforgiving.

Has to be one of the most spectacular view withing both parks. Seeing how the river snakes its way through this rough landscape is awe inspiring.

The Oxbow Overlook is at the terminus of the North Unit road, 14 miles from the Visitor Center on U.S. 85. (The road isn’t a loop, so you need to return the way you came.) It’s just a short walk from the parking area to the overlook, which offers photogenic views of the deeply eroded terrain, the Little Missouri River... More

Natural, rugged beauty of the great outdoors. The badlands is a place like no other. Good for hikers, horseback riding, camping, mountain biker and day trippers

The is an under-appreciated National Park. On the July weekday we visited (height of the season), we passed a only half-dozen cars and saw only two other families at the several places where we got out to look around. What a waste! The vistas are extraordinary. The rock formations are magical. And at the end, this overlook gives a wide... More

I'm a lover of Oxbows, so this was just magical for me. Worth the out-and-back drive on the scenic route. Husband loved the Concretions turnout. Again, no restrooms anywhere along the drive or at any of the turnouts.

Driving to Oxbow will force you to drive the whole park road in the North Unit. I prefer the short walk out to the River Bend overlook. Absolutely amazing around sunrise/set.

This pit-stop at the end of the North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park has a beautiful view. Worth getting out of your vehicle for!! My husband proposed to me at this location, so it holds a special place in my heart! A must see if in the North Unit!
