Walking the downtown Scranton area, you will most certainy pass by this monumental and majestic town square. It takes up the entire city block and in addition to the magnificent architecture of the courthouse, you will walk thru Veterans Memorial Plaza with beautiful trees, flowers and well manicure lawn. There are many plaques honoring veterans and servicemen. There are statues of Columbus, Washington and others and a beautiful statue dedicated to soldiers and sailors of Scranton. If lucky, you may see a dedication or ceremony taking place. A must see.

This is really great city square. The architecture is interesting and there are monuments and historical markers all around the square. Take a nice slow walk to enjoy it all.

The Courthouse reminds of some European castle in the Britain or the Low countries. It's a large and historic building that is graceful yet bulky. Surrounding it, on the square is various monuments to patriotism, jingoism and all manner of flag waving. In addition there is a monument to a labor organizer and the famed Lithuanian-Ruthenian military adventurer Tadeusz Kościuszko who was culturally Polish and remains a hero across Lithuania, Belarus, Poland and the United States to this day.

Excellent Romanesque Revival style county courthouse occupying a full square block in Downtown Scranton built in 1884 during Scranton's heyday of steam, power and steel rails. The courthouse contains a bell tower and time clock. The square is a well maintained park like setting and contains the Lackawanna County Veterans Memorial, Congressional Medal of Honor Niches, Civil War Soldiers & Sailors Memorial, and a monument called Piazza of the Arts. The Veterans Memorial is well done with quotes from famous and local service personnel. Well worth a visit while walking around the downtown area. Plenty of eateries nearby.

Typically the grounds are well kept, and events on the yard are cleaned up in a timely fashion. Lots of loitering at night

It’s not much to see but a nice neighborhood to walk through. This can be a part of a walking tour around town.

If in Scranton why not search out this square in downtown? It's where you'll find Lackawanna county's very impressive courthouse and some monuments. We parked nearby and walk around to snap some pictures. A court house this magnificent is indicative of the city's one time wealth.

Very nice plaza providing ample amounts of support for troops lost or missing throughout the last few wars. The layout is nice and frames well with the courthouse.

Definitely worth a quick run through if you're in the area.

This square has a really picturesque courthouse, with a yard full of monuments, and the back is the best palce to take a photo of Scranton's famous "Electric City" sign. Early Sunday is nice for parking although the sun is best positioned for the sigh later in the day.

I agree that it isn’t a “must see” but if you are in Scranton you need to go by this and see the beautiful architecture! Very nice!
