Our go-to spot downtown for drinks, dinner and a fun evening
Dec 2019
Smiths is our go-to spot in downtown. It's an awesome old historic building with an extensive craft beer selection, low-key vibe, pool tables and other games, and Theodores BBQ menu served. Great for groups or a date night. Live blues music and full BBQ restaurant downstairs.

Please note: Doorway is easy to miss. It is in between Theodores and 211 Worthington Pub. The door also has a sign for Get Set Marketing. You walk up one flight of stairs to enter Smith's.

Cool place, but.....
Oct 2019 • Friends
What a great pool hall! Great bartenders, plenty of TVs and pool tables. The oldest pool hall on the country?!? I don’t know, cool if so...
BUT...
We got there at 830 Friday night of Octoberfest right down the street, and it wasn’t crowded. There’s an older dude “running” the pool tables. I use quotes, because we “put our name on the waiting list”.
For the next hour we watched him bud tables while 3 of his 7 tables were empty. After an hour he came up and said they had a table ready! I laughed at him and said no thanks..
Either take down the Billiards sign out front, or get someone to run the tables for you on a Friday night.

Great Selection of Beer and Bourbon over a Game of Pool
May 2017 • Business
While attending a local attraction a group of us had a fun evening at Smiths'. We didn't eat but enjoyed a nice selection of beer and bourbon. It was relatively empty the evening we were there and i would imagine it could get crowded. There are places to sit and a nice cozy bar. Don't be intimidated by the outside and the walk up the stairs. Once you get inside you'll feel like you've stepped back in time and will be comforted by the hardwood floors and the comfortable layout.

Great brisket... mhmmm mhmm!
Aug 2016 • Couples
So we were actually seated in Smiths Billiard Hall, but it's managed by Theodore's and they serve the same menu as the restaurant. I was surprised to learn that within 20 minutes of opening, there was already a half hour wait in Theodore's! Thank goodness for Smiths!

Anyways, my wife got the BBQ burger with waffle fries. I had a couple of her fries, they were delicious. The burger was half chuck and half steak, she says it was really good.

The meal choice was Brisket, and I was not disappointed! The brisket was tender, you hardly have to chew this delicious creation. The taste of the meat itself is mild, but that's what the sauce is for. There's a little bourbon bbq, but that and chipotle bbq and mustard bbq is also provided at the table. Served on a slice of bread, it was fantastic. For sides was a piece of cornbread, honey slaw, and collard greens (which the last was a first for me). Cornbread was sweet, the slaw was a little bland and boring, and the collard greens was actually pretty good (a unique flavor, reminded me of spinach, a little spicy, I'd eat it again).

For drinks the wife got what I think was the 'Blue Bayou' which was as delicious as it was dangerous, went down real smooth. I was the DD, and while pondering over the craft beer section was tough, I chose 'Monks Cafe Flemish Sour Ale' which even dark was actually light. It was delicious. Their drink list is great and I wish I could have explored it more!

Our server seemed a little overwhelmed, but otherwise she was attentive, polite, and charming. When I ordered the sour ale, she became excited. She was knowledgeable about the beer, where it was crafted, and details of flavor. It was also one of her favorites. She seemed to know the beers inside and out on the beer menu.

What I loved about this place was the building. It is a mid to late 19th century structure with intricate molding on the ceiling, the bathroom had the original stalls, urinals, and sinks. There were antique fans still in place, not operational but hearkened back to a different time. I loved this place. I would definitely visit again the next time I'm in Springfield.

Here is a terrific combination of great food, friendly and attentive staff, and the best beer selection around.bAll this in a century old pool hall. The whole family is welcome nut as the evening goes on over 21 I.d.s are checked. This has been a regular stop for us for nearly a decade. No reason to go anywhere else on a visit to Springfield.

Craft beer proud!
This is what I call a Hidden Hop; that local establishment that not only is a great place to kick back and enjoy a good time with your friends, but also has a great beer selection.

Smith's Billiards Lounge is no exception! Smith's is located on 207 Worthington Street, Springfield, MA 01103. Right above another great establishment, Theodore's.

I discovered this place a few years ago when I was invited to play pool with some friends. I am no pool shark, but I do enjoy a good game of 9-ball. When we first arrived, we grabbed a bite at Theodore's Restaurant on street level. Theodore's has great live entertainment, a great BBQ menu, and a pretty decent beer selection. But if you are going to Smith's after, don't spend too much on these brews, because the treasure is just two flights (pun intended) upstairs.

Keeping our meal receipts, we headed to Smith's. Presenting your receipt gives you one hour of free pool. If you want to just start playing, and enjoying some great craft beer, Theodore's menu is available in Smith's as an extra bonus.

When entering Smith's, to the right is a fully stocked craft beer bar, with bottles and rotating drafts. I am pleased to share you can now order sampler flights! With an admirable selection of Bourbon and Scotch whiskeys, you won't be parched.

The lounge is comfortable, bourbon barrel tables, bar stools, gleaming polished wooden floors and darts are on one side. On the other side there are the pool tables. To be honest, it doesn't have the Mad Men style class. However, the atmosphere is prime for playing the game and enjoying great brews with good friends.

The beer selection on draft is exceptionally exciting. Yes it does rotate, but items can range from Stone and Ommegang, to Southern Tier and Allagash. Pricing on these glasses can range from $4-$10+ so come prepared. The bartenders also know how to serve a craft beer accurately, they have proper glassware and know what they are talking about. If what you're looking for is not on tap, it's probably in the bottle.

So, if you are looking for something new to try, and want that draft experience. Or if you know what you like and just want to treat yourself to a good night out, or maybe help support a local establishment and the craft brew world, head on over to Smith's and indulge.
