About
The Armory, which manufactured and tested firearms for the U.S. military from 1794 to 1968, houses the country's largest collection of US military small weapons. The displays include rare weapons and the largest collection of confederate weapons anywhere. When it started, the Armory was the first high tech manufacturing to occur in the country, and the advancements in mass production and the ability to create interchangeable parts that started at the Armory, initiated the development of the countries first high tech manufacturing corridor.

Historical, but just a simple armory

I am certainly glad we went. We are patriotic and love history. I have to say that i thought there would have been more items on display. The time there is very short but informative. The guides are nice and knowledgeable. There is ample parking.

Paying tribute to a prior time that helped make America great.
Oct 2021
Given our visit to the area, we wanted to experience the Springfield Armory and glad we did.

The Armory complex now houses the sprawling complex of the Springfield Technical Community College but during its heydays it employed upwards of 18,000 workers and given the size of the complex it is impressive to behold.

Equally impressive is how this complex helped American fight the battle of freedom from the days of George Washington, up to and through all wars closing in 1968.

Springfield Armory was singularly responsible for the most part in equipping our soldiers with weaponry throughout the various wars that enabled American to be both triumphant and successful in beating all would be oppressors of wars both domestic and international.

It is sad that the legacy of the Armory was closed when it was and since then, many of Massachusetts gun legacy companies have left the state to pursue operations out of state due to oppressive liberal ideologies to ban guns in direct violation of the 2nd Amendment of our Country. Such is the legacy, idealogues are happy to forget.

Pleasant time

An important American location that has become a pleasant place to spend a couple of hours. Nice displays of both firearms produced here and from all over. Short film that explains the history of the Armory. Everything was easily accessible one one big floor of former factory building. And it’s free.

Very interesting historic site
Aug 2019
The Springfield Armory has a significant historical pedigree. It was the first federal armory.
George Washington authorized it's construction during the Revolutionary War. It later became a major arms manufacturing location.
The site is full of stories about how the facility grew, and it is also full of examples of the US firearms, beginning with muskets, that it began manufacturing in 1794.
The Rangers are very helpful and the displays and videos are first rate.
This is a place worth visiting,

Interesting history
Dec 2019
A lot of American history, not all about guns. Was very interesting to learn how early guns were made and the women's role in the factories. They do tours and information lectures at various times.

The Armory that Protected America
Oct 2019
This museum documents how Springfield Armory started making arms to protect America in the days of George Washington and continued until 1968. The Springfield Armory is about making guns but it is also about making America. Many of the industrial technologies pioneered in gun making were adopted by manufacturers of the industrial revolution. A section of the museum is devoted to how this technology was developed and transferred to the civilian market. Each major arms advance from muskets to trap door rifles to bolt actions, to semiautomatic and machine guns is shown in detail with displays and short videos, A video overview of armory history is give as you arrive. Very friendly. Informative and helpful staff. This is a must visit for historians, arms affectionados, and patriots. However, it is not a kid’s museum and has few displays they can enjoy. Gift shop and restrooms on site. Free admission and parking.

Even if you are not into guns...

Even if you are not fascinated by guns, this museum and it's grounds hold a lot of American history not to be missed! Start with the movie and then go from there. The gift shop is wonderful for history buffs. Ranger Pearl was helpful and thorough, especially when helping my children earn their Junior Ranger badges.
