We were deviated to Sitka instead of Skagway and it was a great opportunity to see the Alaska Storytellers, there was only one show today and we got tickets! They have been performing for only a year but you wouldn’t know it if they had not said so. The story is narrated by a “Mosquito” and enacted by a theatrical dancer/mime. The history of Sitka from Russian occupation is told from a blood sucker’s point of view and the local dances are performed with precision and grace. The ladies were all very vibrant, enthusiastic and expressive as there was no verbal dialogue. The costumes were beautiful and authentic. Video and flash photography was prohibited but I did get some photos after the show. Highly recommend this performance in the Visitor Welcome Center, Harrigan Centennial Hall.

These talented young people perform a history of Alaska covering the period 1700 - 1945. The story is told through dance, video and storytelling. The costumes from the Russian period are excellent. Most impressive was how the dancers glided across the floor in the Russian costumes.
For humor the story narration is provided from the perspective of a mosquito.
The 30 minute show is a definite must to understand the history of Sitka and Alaska.

So much fun! The history was interesting and shared along with a beautiful video. My favorite part was the variety of dances that give you a fun insight into life in Sitka at different points in time. Definitely worth going.

This is a genuinely local presentation devised and performed by locals and my husband and I were both impressed by the quality of the production overall but particularly the dancing. A great way to appreciate Sitka’s fascinating history in 30 minutes, with a dance for each point!

Sweet idea, interesting history, amateur production. Unfortunately, it was almost impossible to see except (I assume) in the 1st couple of rows.
