About
Treat yourself to a sailing vacation along the scenic waters of Southeast Alaska! Enjoy the beauty of the Tongass National Forest–majestic mountains and undeveloped waterways. We will sail silently among the straits, bays, and inlets of the protected Inside Passage. S/V Bob is an efficient, powerful, modern 50 foot sloop which allows us to take advantage of any breeze to sail between the beautiful anchorages of Alaska. This is one of the most amazing Alaska activities imaginable - and you will not forget sailing with us. Don’t miss the boat! We offer captained & crewed charters between Sitka, Juneau, Petersburg, and Glacier Bay. Sit back and enjoy watching for whales, spotting bears and seabirds, or lend a hand with the salmon and halibut fishing, help pull the crab and shrimp pots, or trim the sails. Be as active as you'd like. As naturalists, we love to hike, kayak, and explore the remote wilderness beaches of Alaska with you. Limited to six passengers in 3 double private cabins.

It's not an exaggeration to say that cruising with Bob was a once in a lifetime experience. It's a perfect combination of fun and education, comfort and adventure, relaxation and excitement...if you can imagine experiencing the wildness and tranquillity of Alaska up close and personal, you'll probably get close to reality, but the reality of the trip is still better.

My family, friends and I took Bob's Glacier Bay National Park tour in early August for ten days. I first got acquainted with Captain Blain Anderson when I made the inquiry about the trip beforehand, and he was so responsive and fun in our email exchanges that it was like a reunion with old friends when we finally met the Captain and his wife, Monique in person. Bob was very clean and well kept. The sitting room was spacious and comfortable. Each berth had its own head and shower. With a small but well-equipped kitchen both Monique and Blain made delicious and healthy food meal after meal, day after day.

The trip was well planned. Each day was a combination of cruising and activities, such as fishing, kayaking, or hiking. We visited some historical sites, did berry-picking trips, caught halibut and a lot of Dungeness crabs, hiked in a rainforest, etc. In addition to countless humpback whales, we also saw Orcas, sea lions, sea otters, bears, goats - Blain and Monique knew where to look for the wild animals and pointed them out for us so we wouldn't miss a thing. By the end of the trip we saw all of the animals in the Glacier Bay National Park except one, porcupine. Blain and Monique were also the best naturalists. They knew the names of all sorts of vegetation in the forest. It was a lot of fun to walk on the trail and pick and eat wild berries left and right. Bob also had a full collection of books about Alaska, which gave us more opportunities to learn more. Blain and Monique patiently showed me the gauges on the boat, the sheets for different sails and some basic concepts of sailing.

It was such a luxury to linger in one area and wait for humpback whales breaching, or hang out in front of a glacier and expect another big calving, or observing 13 mountain goats on one hill side quietly... I cannot speak highly enough about the wonderful time I had on Bob. I still keep the Bob website open on my computer and believe I will sail with Blain and Monique on Bob again.

Our 10 day trip to Glacier Bay National Park on S/V BOB exceeded our wildest expectations. We cannot recommend it enough, from day one to the last day Captain Blain & Monique made this trip one we will never forget. The scenery and wildlife were breathtaking and both Blain & Mo were so knowledgeable about all the birds, animals & plants we encountered along the way. The boat was comfy, the food was delicious - each day was a new adventure. Evening cocktail hour, dinner & games many nights rounded out every perfect day. We made new friends as we joined 4 strangers who became friends right off the bat! This is a first class trip and we can't wait to sail with them again!

Fabulous sailing adventure with Captain Blain & Monique on S/V Bob. Sailing, whale watching, fishing (snagged halibut, prawns, king salmon, dungeness crab), sights, hikes and much more on a exquisitely appointed boat crewed by ever positive Monique and Blain. The delicious gourmet food was an unexpected surprise! Additionally, both of them are experts on region's flora and fauna. This was a world class experience revealing Alaska's full beauty -- our friends occupying the other two cabins concur! Highly recommend. Don't miss sailing SE Alaska on S/V Bob!

We recently completed a week long photo based trip on sailboat Bob with Captain Blaine and his wife Monique. Along with another couple and photo workshop leader Barbara Eddy we had an amazing experience. Blaine and Mo have an amazing boat and were amazing hosts.

If you are considering sailing the inside passage on a first class boat with a first class crew, do not overlook sailboat Bob. It will be a trip to remember forever.

We have twice sailed on Bob, and both trips were incredible adventures. Whales, otters, dolphins, bears . . . you name it; we saw it. The luxury of being able to watch whales breeching in Glacier Bay as the huge cruise ships sailed on, unaware, was so satisfying! Blain and Monique are exemplary hosts. Catching your own dinner is dining at its very best. Highly recommend sailing with these two.

My wife and I flew to Juneau from Seattle then sailed to Glacier Bay for a nine day adventure. You should only do this trip if you want to see incredible scenery and abundant wildlife in the comfort of a classic 50 foot sailboat owned and operated by superb host, hostess and chef nourished by the freshest seafood. We did this trip in August 2013; it remains a highlight of our lives.

Words can hardly convey what an amazing experience we had with Blain, Monique, and the good ship BOB on our first trip to Alaska. This is no 'sail from point A to point B, here's your daily schedule and dinner is at 6 sharp' kind of trip. If that's your thing, then maybe look into a commercial cruise, because any trip with the Sound Sailing is a truly unique and wonderful experience - one that we hope to repeat and again!

We joined the last sail of the 2017 season from Juneau to Sitka taking the inside passage because of high seas oceanside and had the time of our lives! Blain and Mo were the ultimate hosts, outdoing themselves daily to make sure we got a great feel for rugged SE Alaska. The scenery was breathtaking around every corner, in every cove, on every trail. We saw so many humpbacks bubblenetting and breaching we lost count, and spent some time gobsmacked watching the brown bears fish and feast on the late summer salmon. They treated us to delicious meals of halibut and crab we caught from the boat, made sure we got a dose of local culture with a soak at Tenakee Hot Springs and went above and beyond to make our trip exceptional. We sailed, swapped stories and made lifelong friends

Do not hesitate to see Alaska with the good folks at Sound Sailing. You won't regret it!

This was the trip of a lifetime. It was the perfect mix of relaxation and more active days and I felt so rejuvenated after our 9-day trip. Captain Anderson and Monique are perfect hosts - I don't know how they make you feel so at ease. And they are fantastic chefs - we ate so well and everything was so fresh healthy and delicious. The majestic scenery and Alaskan wildlife....we were simply blown away by the beauty of it all. I was worried about a couple of things - being "stuck" on a boat for 9 days, and whether the accommodations would be comfortable. On both fronts, I was so pleasantly surprised. We were able to go ashore most days and go hiking, beachcombing, kayaking, etc. I never felt bored and we were also able to customize our level of activity each day. And I was impressed with the accommodations. Every cabin has its own private bathroom and shower and the rooms were surprisingly comfortable. I slept so well! All in all, highly recommend and I already want to go back!

This was an active trip with daily hikes, beach exploration, fishing, wildlife sightings and blissful sailing when winds were available. The host couple , both capable sailors, created an amazingly casual atmosphere aboard and yet were clearly in charge of guiding us through waters they knew well. The food was superb! We ended our week thinking when can we go on another of the sailboat BOB cruises.
