I’ve been to quite a few visitor centers where the staff were less than helpful or ill-tempered. Also they can be too crowded. This one right across the street from the capital was perfect. Elizabeth gave us excellent advice, the best of which was to park in the sometimes tow zone since legislature wasn’t in session. That way we could walk ten minutes to the plaza where parking is outrageous or impossible to find. Our car was there safe upon our return. Thanks!

I had called the Visitor Center a week before our trip and had a conversation with Elizabeth. Elizabeth was on duty when we stopped by on our Day One. We had a lot of questions answered in a clear, informative manner. And, we just had a nice general conversation with her about the area and other things. Great stop!

Staying in Albuquerque for 3 nights, we planned a day in nearby Santa Fe. Our first stop was to the Visitor Center which happened to be located across from street from the Capitol Building and only a short distance to The Plaza.
The Visitor Center is clean, well stocked with many brochures, has clean rest rooms and a very polite and helpful staff. We asked about parking at The Plaza and the kind lady suggested that we sign the guest book, then we could park in their lot for free because we were there on official business. Then we could take their free shuttle to the Plaza. So we signed the guest book, parked, and took the free shuttle which let us off right next to The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi.
From there, we walked The Plaza and neighboring shops and attractions. Eventually, we ended up right back to the Visitor Center which just happened to be next to The Oldest Church! A great venture!

What a gonga our stop at this information center on the Old Spanish Trail proved to be. First, the congenial staff happily answered questions and made suggestions regarding sightseeing and other activities in the area. Second, I looked like a deer caught in headlights when I saw the hundreds of brochures devoted to lodging, attractions, etc., in Santa Fe and New Mexico. There is even a huge binder devoted to restaurants in Santa Fe and their menus. Third, the restrooms were pristine. Fourth, a free shuttle runs from here about every 30 minutes to Canyon Road and Museum Hill
And fifth (I've saved the best for last), free day parking is offered in the huge lot behind the center. To qualify for free parking, visitors need to register their names in the center. It is also OK to park without charge for evening activities in Santa Fe, such as dining at restaurants. I consider the center to provide an excellent parking location, because it is just a 3-block walk to the Plaza, which is the center of Santa Fe activities and close to many places of interest for tourists.
We happily left our car in the lot, by a shade tree, and made our first stop at San Miguel Chapel, the oldest church in the United States, which is right next door. The state capitol building -- another major attraction -- is right across the street from the center.

You know you are going to need a bathroom when you first arrive in town. They have a big clean multi stall one. The staff can help you with all types of information plus and it is a big plus PARKING. You can leave your car in the lot and take the free shuttle to downtown. It is walkable and I did both. My first day I decided to drive up by the plaza and paid over $7 to park. The rest of my stay in Santa Fe I parked for free and used the money to buy more interesting things than a parking space.

This visitor center is near the State Capitol building, or Roundhouse. It is also the interchange site for the free Santa Fe Pick-up bus shuttle for Canyon Road shuttles connecting to the Historic District shuttle. There are also clean restrooms☺ Friendly staff members offer maps, directions, and recommendations. Free daytime parking is available, from where you can access the free Santa Fe Pick-up buses. As with all visitor centers, there are tons of brochures. There are three Santa Fe visitor centers: this one, Train Station, and at the Plaza.

We stopped at the Visitor's Center simply because we happened to see a sign while heading toward the San Miguel Chapel and the "Oldest Home." They are doing some work in the area, so you need to cut through by the chapel to get into the Visitor's Center, but it is certainly worth a visit. I wish I remembered the name of the woman who helped us, as she was great. Gave us maps for downtown and highlighted a walking tour. Gave us a few restaurant suggestions after asking what type of places we were looking for and where we were staying. She also gave us good maps for doing the high/low road to Taos, suggested a place for horseback riding, and hiking. We never would have tried the state park without her suggestion. They have loads of brochures from all over the state in many languages. And, very clean public bathrooms. Stop in for a few minutes - it was very helpful for us (even with all the online research we had done prior).

Just by the oldest house/San Miguel mission and walking distance to the churches and town. Good and helpful info of things to do around and in NM. Maps available as well. Ask for Santa Fe map. The biggest advantage is free parking for the entire day so close to point of interests. Also, has a tourist bus stop on premises. Highly recommended.

The huge parking lot by this Visitor Center, which stands across from the State Capitol, offers free parking in undesignated spaces when the legislature is not in session. We find this to be a nice money saver when visiting Santa Fe and a good way to avoid the city’s crowded streets in summer. In August, on our most recent visit, we learned that the Visitor Center no longer requires the vehicle to be registered in its guestbook. So we just simply parked and enjoyed the10-minute walk to the central and historic Santa Fe Plaza Downtown. This lot is also a possibility when having dinner in the area but a vehicle cannot be parked here overnight.
We always make a brief stop in the Center before heading off to shop, dine, visit museums or explore. I consider the staff here to be knowledgeable, pleasant and extremely helpful. Though the space is relatively small, it brims with brochures and maps, including one with a mini guide. Southwestern style benches offer seating, and there are clean restrooms. I have never seen more than a few visitors here.
A lovely rest area just outside the Center’s entrance holds much greenery plus benches and picnic tables. I sat there in the shade for a while on the hot summer day after reading a nearby informational sign about the Santa Fe Trail.
