I go for their free Monday movie nights, a partnership with the also excellent Santa Fe Video Library. Excellent and personable staff who are always down to go the extra mile for incredible service. Movies are hand-picked and include a kitschy but fun personalized animation of the theatre's namesake. I hear every once in a while you can even spot one of George R. R. Martin's private parties or the man himself catching a movie.

Incredible hosts!

The management of this amazing establishment is Olympic Level!
We had our wedding reception here, showing video of our Elopement.
The outstanding Drinks, Food and Video Showing were all flawless. Evan Schultz and his crew were the most accommodating, generous partners you could ever hope for. This perfectly restored gem should not be overlooked, while in Santa Fe.

Amazing experience we will never forget!

We accidentially stumbled onto this 128 seat, art deco, historic movie theater complete with traditional movie food offerings (hot dogs, popcorn, soda, etc,.) and a full bar. Even the Uber driver hadn't heard of the movie house. It's small with narrow walkways leading into the theater. The lights, brilliant colors , and thematic decorations keep your interests keenly attuned. Dont miss this one.

Jean Cocteau is a great place to see some unusual films. The owner, George Martin, has put a lot into the theatre without totally indoctrinating visitors. The movie theatre has a great bar with very innovative cocktails, in addition to a well appointed concession stand. The movies we have seen there the 5-6 times we have been have been varied and good. This is a nice place to spend an afternoon!

I drove up to Santa Fe from Silver City, a 5-plus hour drive, primarily to see Nicolas Roeg's film "The Man Who Fell to Earth" starring David Bowie in one of his early roles. The night I attended, all proceeds from the admission were donated to the American Cancer Society, and there was a representative of the ACS on hand to tell about their organization and where the money goes. There was also a singalong of David Bowie tunes and drink specials at the bar. The popcorn is arguably the best in the state, but frankly I'd eat styrofoam peanuts as long as they poured real butter on them.

Silver City lost its only full-time movie theater almost three years ago, but a former theater downtown has been refurbished and should be opening any day now; it if is half as charming, community-minded and just plain fun as the Jean Cocteau Cinema, I'll be ecstatic.

I like going to movie theaters if they are small and show great thoughtful movies.... (but what I hate is a too loud sound system plus crying babies, people talking thru the
w-h-o-l-e movie and generally being thoughtless and rude. In movie multiplexes that is what you get, plus you pay through the nose for the privilege. If you like quirky and sleeper type movies, good animation by independent animators and documentary features not otherwise available do check out the Jean Cocteau Cinema. Yes and other people have said it seems 'European" it does by the types of films it shows but the Jean Cocteau Cinema is fun, relaxed and a place for a date what ever your age. They have a gallery and bring in interesting artists., a pocket bar. it is well stocked , there are tables and chairs. Happily the theater has a snack bar so you can get popcorn and a glass of wine before the movie. Good for out-of-town guests too.

George RR Martin purchased the Jean Cocteau Cinema to revitalize the local theater in the Railyard District. The theater is a luscious homage to Art Nouveau style, with no expense spared. Since it opened, it has morphed into more than just a fantastic place to see a movie.
Mr. Martin continues to bring Producers, Directors, Authors and events to Santa Fe for mind expanding discussions on the art of cinema. From sublime offerings to cheeky odes of the past, he fills the marquee with his personal loves of the cinema.
The popcorn is fresh and served up with butter and a creative array of toppings, my favorite is chili spiced. You can order coffee, beer on tap, and the cafe features a Bar and Gallery with different artists and drink specials every month.
The Jean Cocteau is a hub of artistic decadence, richly inspired and a great pleasure to partake of. If you are visiting Santa Fe, it is close to the plaza and walking distance from many hotels. The locals love the generosity of Mr. Martin and all his efforts to create the Jean Cocteau Cinema as a favorite place to frequent.

Small intimate new addition to our movie resources. Thanks to George Martin, we are back at this small theater for interesting selection of flicks. A Bar and snack selection adds to this pleasure. The seats may need fixing, but wow!

What a gift to Santa Fe to have this theater back: same cozy lounge now with bar, private viewing room and fine screen. People who complain about the view should go to the commercial stadiums. This is about handpicked films and events. My first glimpse was the Junot Diaz talk, and Martin was there making sure everyone was comfortable. It felt like being in his living room.

What a wonderful addition to Santa Fe. There are so many great films selected, but also the events preceding the screenings are unique, fun and interactive. The bar is a great feature. We are lucky to have this gem in our town.
