The crew, JB and Nina, were great! Their new, customized boat is spacious and comfortable. They seem to take smaller groups out than other boats, and the boat is setup so that two people are in a row and you can always see something if you are sitting or standing at your spot (no having to move around the boat to get a good view). Their boat also uses water jets instead of propellers which makes the boat fast and also reduces the sound created by the boat which is better for the marine ecosystem. I would highly recommend Western Prince to anyone looking to have a great whale and wildlife watching experience!

We spent an incredible day on the water with JB and Katie. It was just us and our 4 teenage daughters on the boat, so we had plenty of space. JB put us right on a pod of orcas and we were able to watch them hunt & play for almost 45 minutes. We also saw 2 minke whales and a humpback! Katie’s knowledge of local wildlife was impressive and we all learned so much. Definitely recommend booking with this wonderful company!

what a great trip. My wife , who was a bit fearful about the idea, said afterwards it was worth every penny and more. Saw Humpback whales and their calves up close. Wow!!. The captain and the naturaliset were informative and could not have treated the passengers better. Highly recommended

I took my family of five, including three children under the age of 13, on a whale watching tour with Western Prince. As a careful spender who paid north of $700 for this trip, I can say we received the value of the cost. I was thoroughly impressed with the Western Prince team.

Our experience started before we even arrived in Friday Harbor, as our planned ferry ride from Anacortes was unexpectedly canceled. When I contacted the Western Prince office, they were both communicative and understanding, as well as helpful. Considering we were against the clock once arriving in Friday Harbor, the staff did a great job of gearing up my three children for the experience while my wife and I adorned the necessary equipment.

Once onboard, the boat experience was both safe and smooth. Fortunately, from a whale perspective, we were able to see a humpback and a pod of orcas. Bethany was both extremely knowledgable and accommodating to our questions. Within a minute of spotting the whales, Bethany knew each by their assigned name/number (not just species), and their known previous activities. It's clear Bethany knows her stuff, but she doesn't lord it over you in the least bit. Rather, she invites you into the conversation and adds intriguing educational value to what is already an enjoyable experience.

I would quickly recommend Western Prince if you're considering a Friday Harbor tour.

Wow! Book this trip. These guys know where to take you to see two juvenile male orcas hunt a harbor seal (and have him for lunch). The whales are close enough to see without binoculars and the boat is nimble enough to follow them as they hunt. Particulars: the boat ride is very comfortable--surprisingly so in open water. If you've been in a sport boat cruising across a big lake in light chop, you've had a bumpier ride than this. You're provided with something like a ski bib (with a huge zipper pocket for your phone) ski jacket with a hood and binoculars. There is also a cargo net on the back of the seat in front of you. I kept the bib on over a sweatshirt, we had full sun, but if it had been cloudy, I may have used the jacket running over open water, mostly for the hood. And..Katie. She is a self-confessed "dorca" and very knowledgeable about the whales, their habitat, their diets..everything. I can't say enough good things about this trip.

Wow! This was the trip we were looking for. Small open air boat with about 20 passengers. Great staff starting with Elah in the shop who helped us with a binocular issue and got us geared up in the exposure suits. Bethany, the on board naturalist, was so passionate about her “back yard “ the Salish Sea. She provided great narration on what wildlife we would see and got as excited as we did when we made encounters. Owner and Captain, Ivan was true professional from briefings through maintaining great positioning during our encounters. His communication with other spotters allowed him use his fast boat to get us to Canadian waters to spend about an hour with 2 different pods of Orcas. Also got to be up close and personal with a big humpback. What a great trip!

Fantastic trips - we did two - from beginning to end. The float suits keep you snug and their love, pride and respect for the environment and the wildlife really shows. All the operators work together to ensure you have the best possible chance to see orcas and all the wonderful marine life here. They literally go the extra mile for you - Captain Ivan took us well up into Canadian waters as that's where whales were seen and we weren't disappointed. Orcas and a breaching humpback were our reward and Ivan still made sure we had stops to see bald eagles, seals, sealions, rams and the beautiful scenery, even though we were over time. Our naturalist Katy was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble. Can't recommend these guys highly enough.

Outstanding excursion, we were blessed to site two species on our tour, which included three separate orca pods. The captain positioned the boat very well to capture my images. Bring a long lens, the boats are regulated to respect their distance (too bad the weekend yahoo's don't know the rules)! I also had super powered binoculars, but didn't need to use them. We got to see most of our whale sitings as the sole boat in the area.
The naturalist on the tour was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic. She communicated well, but I was mostly lost behind my lense, so I can't say I caught every word or was concerned about the hearing everything she said.
We sat in the back seats. This gave me lots of opportunity to move around the stern without blocking other guests. It also kept my wife out of the wind when we at maximum speed.

Fabulous experience! We were close to sea life while maintaining the appropriate distance for their safety. It was clear Captain Ivan was working hard to find the right spots and he gave us a great viewing at several spots. Katie our naturalist was informative and entertaining. A top travel experience - highly recommend !

Our expectations going in were lowered because several locals told us that the resident orca pod had moved on since the death of Granny a number of years back. We selected this company because of the visibility from being on an open boat, but unfortunately it was raining nonstop the day we went (May 4). Luckily the jacket, pants and goggles they gave somewhat shielded us from the rain. We are so glad that we did not skip this trip due to weather. Captain JB and Alison were great at finding us orcas to watch. One spectacle was when Noah, a large male came right under our boat and rotated so we could see the white belly side.
