Whale Watching from Friday Harbor

524 reviews
The waters surrounding San Juan Island are full of salmon, the primary food source of orca whales, making it an ideal location for whale watching. With this tour, set out on a boat equipped with a heated cabin and large viewing windows to look for killer whales in their natural habitat. San Juan Island is rich in wildlife, and minke, humpback, and gray whales can also often be seen in the area.

San Juan Island Vineyards is right on the road from Friday Harbor to Roche Harbor.. about 3 miles out of town from FH. The location is incredibly picturesque with the white chapple, buildings and vineyard. During Covid they are not doing samplers, but you can get a glass or bottle. We chose a bottle and they provided us 2 plastic wine glasses that were ours to keep. There was plenty of outdoor covered seating. We chose a red blend. It was not the best we have had, more dry then we like but honestly... the two of us enjoying a glass of wine in the setting was so beautiful.. no complaints. The staff was friendly, tables were spaced far apart. We are happy we chose to stop.

We came in the afternoon and there were only 4 other people there. They have a big parking area and also an outdoor seating area. We tasted 5 wines for $10 per person. My husband and I bought 2 bottles so our tasting fees were waived. The wines were really good. If it's nice outside, you can bring some food/snacks and have a picnic outside. Make sure you stop by and check this place out. Also, the lady who was helping was really nice and friendly.

Stopped by the tasting room about 30 minutes before closing, enjoyed a taste of one wine. Wanted to taste the syrah - also on their tasting list - but they would have had to open a new bottle for me, and the woman behind the bar clearly didn't want to. She asked me if I was going to buy a bottle, and I said it depended on how I liked the taste. Then she actually said - we only do tastings for people who are going to buy! Excuse me? I bought a bottle everywhere else I stopped today and probably would have here as well. The wine might be good, but there's a lot of room for improvement in customer service.

My girls and I went here for a nice afternoon of wine tasting and girl talk, we really enjoyed ourselves and the young lady working was very friendly and helpful. We didnt catch her name but we called her our lifetime movie star and we meant it in an absolute good way! She even took a picture for us so that we can have memories of this day. The wines that were being sampled were delicious and we ended up buying 3 bottles of the 2016 Madeleine Angevine.
