To visit English Camp, you first park in a lot and then walk downhill through some trees for maybe a quarter to half mile. At the bottom of the hill the area opens up with great views of the water and buildings from the original camp. There is also a small but interesting fenced in garden. Recommended

wonderful way to see a beautiful area and learn some history while you are there. We went on a rainy day, but with the tree cover we found it to still be a nice hike. We really liked that the park staff were all very nice and loved to answer questions about plants, wildlife, as well as park history.

While visiting Friday Harbor, WA, I found this place as a point of interest. Though it has not been cared for in sometime and needs TLC, it was a very interesting piece of England and USA history. Worth the walk through the unmanicured trails and grass.

We were on mopeds and visited English GaRden en route around the garden. I loved the site -how beautiful! Lively little bay and hood historical markets. Worth the turn off from scenic route -no park fee

Parks dept. Isnt hosting tours or demos. But there are enough. Placards to piece together the story. Whenever we're on SJI we come here. To be honest prettier grounds than American camp. During gigh summer the gardens are si beautiful with coneflowers and herbs... lavender, rosemary, sage. Pretty setting on the bay. Free and worth the time. Easy walking.

That anything of English Camp has been preserved is probably to the credit of SJI. It would be interesting to learn about the history of potential pressures to further minimize/ignore it over the years. The farther west you get on SJI the more you feel the affinity for the British side of the family. This seems wholly appropriately treated. I especially enjoyed the (from my perspective passive aggressive) notes about the very few well respected officers in charge of English Camp compared to the revolving door of American Camp. Looked a little different when you use the lens that American Camp was important but we were facing a civil war and a not insignificant count of commanding officers (including the infamous Pickett) were declaring for the Confederacy. A neat bit of omission and I salute it.

We really enjoyed English Camp. The history is neat and it's great that some building have been preserved. What really makes it wonderful is the location. On a sunny day, Garrison Bay is a true gem. Bring a picnic - sit on the lawn - watch the boats and the birds.

Great views of Garrison Bay. Only a few of the original buildings remain, but they are well preserved. I especially liked the flower garden and huge union jack flag waving in the wind. Wonderful history. The hike to the cemetery is short and steep, but it's worth it.

nice place for a picnic and some easy hiking. We did the Bell Loop Trail and the Young Hill Trail. Both pretty easy but the Young Hill was all up hill one way.
There were no guides there to give any information but the placards tell the story. It was not busy at all the day that we went.
Beautiful views of the Bay

We walked the grounds and read the markers but no rangers or stamp station. The old giant trees and their remains were a wonder. The gardens were a nice touch.

Is it difficult to find parking on the weekends during the summer? We're visiting at the end of August.
Written August 14, 2021
I don't think parking will be a problem during the week, but I'm not sure over the weekend. They do have a good number of parking stalls in their lot.
