They offers authentic small group sea kayak trips and tours ranging from 3 hour tours to 5 day expeditions and customized sea kayak rentals. Sea kayak with orca whales, porpoise, sea lions, harbor seals, otters, bald eagles and more! We specialize in personalized customer service, quality gear and fun, knowledgeable guides leading small groups. Our trips attract active adults (families, friends, couples and singles) of all ages who love adventure. Join us on one of our daily 3, 4 or 6 hour trips or for a multi-day kayaking camping expedition. For those experienced in the outdoors we offer a comprehensive kayak rental service. They also will arrange custom tours for wedding parties, reunions, outdoor clubs, schools and scout troops.

My partner and I did a sunset tour with Austin and we had a blast! It was just we three on the trip, but my partner and I have very different experience levels with kayaks and water sports in general. Nonetheless, we were both completely comfortable, and Austin explained everything clearly and answered any questions that came up very readily.
During our tour, the weather was lovely, the kayaking was very calm and relaxed, and my favourite part, we got to see lots of seals, including a mama seal and her baby! They came up quite close to us so we stopped paddling and just drifted past as not to disturb them, as mama was teaching baby to dive for fish. We also saw several bald eagles and other sea birds.
Something in particular that I really appreciated was that Austin was very knowledgeable about the water conditions and wildlife from the perspective of both a sailor and a kayaker; so no matter how active the wildlife around us were, there was always something new to learn. I’m so glad we did this tour and I would absolutely recommend it to all kayaking experience levels (including no experience at all)! Thanks, Austin!

Austin was our trip guide and he was phenomenal. His knowledge of the island and surrounding areas was top notch. He provided a great kayaking experience and if I ever come back to the islands I will book a multi-day with Austin because he make that trip amazing.
First timer to friday harbor and my kayaking experience only enhanced the few hours spent on the island. Thank you!

Perfect weather, perfect water - Thanks for arranging that! Lovely mix of kayaking near the shore and small hikes to scenic or historic locations. Our guide, Austin, was so thoughtful to partner a little old lady unable to paddle on her own. He was informative and fun. It was a perfect way for the happy hubby and I to celebrate 30 years of wedded bliss. I highly recommend San Juan Kayak Expeditions.

Couldn’t have been happier! Will Owen was our extremely knowledgeable guide for the three-hour morning trip. Wish we’d booked something longer! He took us through Griffin Bay where we paddled past bald eagles and harbor seals. If you’re in Friday Harbor puzzled by all the kayak company options, we highly recommend San Juan Kayak Expeditions. Ask for one of their more experienced guides like Will.

Had a great time kayaking with Austin and two other Seattlite in the group. Austin was a great guide and very knowledgeable. I’ve lived in the northwest since 2004 and he provided me with more insight about what is around me more than I learned since living here. I had plenty “the more you know” moments during my four hours. Hahah. Austin is also a very patient person and gives great encouragement when you think you’re navigating the kayak incorrectly. I now feel encouraged to buy my own kayak one day and explore close to me.
I also really enjoyed the Company as a whole and their communication. Was happy with the details included in the email prior to the trip. Also appreciated that the trip would continue regardless of how many people signed up.

I did a full day tour to Lime Kiln this past weekend with Austin, and I could not recommend the experience more! He was so fun and personable, and really followed my interests: I was wanting to hear all about the plants, animals, and history of the area and we got to see SO much! It had turned out that no one else was booked (not sure if there were cancellations)-- I can't believe how lucky I got to have a 6 hour private tour! I think other companies may have cancelled on me... as it was I got to explore everything I was interested in, with someone who knows the area well. What a fantastic day we had on the water. This was one of the highlights of our trip to the San Juans!
Side note: I'm a novice boater, but in reasonably healthy shape. Being in a double kayak, this was totally doable for me. I was worried that my arms/shoulders would be sore the next day- they weren't.

We had an amazing self guided 3 day kayaking trip out in the San Juan's. Staff was amazing all around. Pre-prep with Cole was super easy. He got us all set up with gear lists, parking beta, rentals, and meetup locations/times. Nathan hooked us up with our plan/route options. He met us at the kiosk, which is close to the ferry and very easy to find. He was super knowledgeable and great about explaining the tides and all of the safety information. He kept in touch with us throughout our trip making sure we were safe and even provided helpful wind/tide reports along the way. On conclusion of our trip we were picked up by Austin who was very friendly and easy going. He even stashed us some snacks in the van for the ride back! Can't recommend San Juan Kayak Expeditions more. Such an amazing trip! Cant wait to come back for a 5 day expedition! Don't forget to take a water plunge, you wont regret it!

Kayaked with Bobby Neil as my guide and had an awesome experience. Bobby was an excellent guide- he knew his stuff about the region, whether it be about flora and fauna or the area’s history. The tour itself was gorgeous. We did the full day tour and had an excellent lunch with stunning views of the water and Olympic mountains in the background. 10/10 would recommend this outfitter and Bobby as a guide.

What a thoroughly enjoyable, beautiful, and relaxing way to spend a spring afternoon! The 3-hr Griffin Bay expedition was perfect for us, the weather could not have been better, and our guides Austin and Noah were friendly, helpful, and skilled. We saw seals lounging between the rocks and several types of birds. The water was clear and a gorgeous blue-green. The kayaks felt very stable and secure. We will do it again.. and maybe even get out own kayaks!
