Most beautiful area of Friday Harbor

We rented scooters and the view as we went down the hill into Cattle Point was breathtakingly beautiful.

Short 15 minute drive out to Cattle Point from Friday Harbor. Parking roadside prior to parking lot. Nice half mile trail to the outlook and lighthouse at Cattle Point. Saw a adorable Red Fox chasing/eating grass hoppers. Also saw a mother deer with 2 fawns. With drive about an hour and a half.

You have a great choice of different beaches to choose from all located on the southern point of the Island. I watched a Loon at small, easy to reach, pebbly Fourth of July Beach. I wanted to see foxes and by going to South Beach around sunset, I got to see not one, but three, from several different locations. Also... More

By far, one of my 2 favorite places on the island to visit. This is where American Camp is located. Behind the interpretive centre there is a bald eagle nest. They had a telescope set up so we could watch the 13 week old pair of eaglets testing their wings. They were just fledged but still hanging around the family... More

We drove to South Beach and Cattle Point for a picnic and exploring. It was fabulous. We sat on the bluff looking over the beach area for our picnic. What a view of the straits and the Olympic Peninsula! Then we walked the bluff to the old lighthouse and down to the rocks. A fun afternoon.

A must see while on San Juan Island. This national park is at the south end of the island and well worth the drive. The home to US soldiers during the occupation of the island in the 1800's. you can visit the visitor's center and get lots of rich island history. After that, take an absolutely gorgeous hike down towards... More

Views from either side--Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains! You can see South Beach and Fourth of July Beach, too. Very tranquil, not busy even in the middle of summer. We saw river otters swimming off the shore of South Beach.

I enjoyed walking around the rough landscape and exploring all of the scenic views. A fantastic ride by motorcycle out to this point.
