Yanaguana Garden opened in 2015 and has become the second most frequented park per acre in Texas. It's 4.1 acres offer an active play environment designed for all ages and ability levels, a splash pad, games plaza, public art, historic homes reincarnated into culinary offerings, and over 500 free events per year.

Although this is built to be primrily for children, it is a fun place for adults to go and see the artistic way it is put together, and hang out for awhile. Restaurants close by. Lovely tiled bench to sit and contemplate.

We loved Yanaguana at Hemisfair. We were visiting from out of state and needed a place to burn some energy. This is fantastic! The playground is huge with new safe equipment for kids of all ages. There is a splash pad and garden area. As well as ping pong tables, foosball, chess, checkers and Cornhole. Lots of open space to run. Clean open air bathrooms. Lots of mosaic work and beautiful plants and trees. Even saw a few butterflies. We were very impressed!!

If you live in San Antonio or are just visiting, you must visit Yanaguana Garden. It is a public park in the Hemisfair district on the near east side of the downtown area at the corner of South Alamo and Cesar Chavez Blvd. it is a free park but you may need to pay to park nearby. There is a lot just north of the Magik Children’s Theatre.
What is great about this park is that they have lots of programmed events and activities plus there are four restaurants/bars in old historic homes where you can get a get meal or just coffee or a glass of wine and watch everyone having a great time. One of these is a paleteria which is a type of frozen fruit bar. They are custom made and lots of choices. Between two of the restaurants is a nice wooden deck and on Friday nights, there is usually live music. You don’t even have to order from the restaurants to sit and enjoy it. You can even bring your own food.
They have recently installed a huge art piece over a large climbing play structure. It have mirrors facing down to the kids below and their images are like carnival mirrors, all distorted. I understand that it was installed to provide shade as well.
And you will see numerous playful art pieces in the park. Our favorite is the collection of mosaic benches and large blue panther.

Finally visited Yanaguana Gardens at Hemisfair park and was not disappointed. My son did not leave the splash pad, but there were many other enjoyable things for him. The climbing playsets looked like fun, there were a variety of swings, a very large sandbox, and giant-sized chess and checkers sets. There may be more, but since we didn't leave the water area I couldn't see everything. The bathrooms are pretty clean for a public park and there are separate changing areas near the splashpad. On weekends you can park for free in the SAISD parking lot across Caesar Chavez street (online it says that you can also park in the government parking lost, but they were taped off). I don't know how often it is there, but there was a shaved ice food truck in the park.

We really enjoyed our visit! The kids played and enjoyed themselves. We topped the visit off with a nice sweet treat from one of the small shops on the premises.

We spent an entire afternoon here and my 4 and 6 years old still did not want to leave. We are visiting the area and my boys told me they enjoyed this park more than SeaWorld. There is a splash pad, a gigantic sand box area with a water fountain that runs in to the sandbox and kids can build dams and rivers, huge climbing ropes, swings, enormous chess and checker boards and more fun things I am forgetting to name. Changing booths for the splash pad. Best of all it is free and open to the public, very clean.

Took 2 kids here (9, 12), to burn some energy. Very nicely kept park with attendant on duty, great thing. Many things to do: swings, climbing, table tennis, chess, checkers, sand area, restrooms, etc. awesome place. Spent about 2 hrs. There is a parking lot right next door.

At the suggestion of a friend who’s visited just about every park in a 100-mile radius, my sister and I took our kids to check it out. It did not disappoint. Outside of the sand play area (that I avoided like the plague!) there wasn’t much on the playground area that my 3-year-old could safely play, but that didn’t stop him from trying. The older kids spent a good 30 minutes on the rope apparatus before we had them change clothes to head over to the splash pad so the little one could get in on some fun. The older kids tired of that after about 30 minutes and asked to return to the ropes, so they did. When we caught back up with them, they were playing table tennis. And, that’s when we discovered the additional fun to be had at Yanaguana Gardens. We took time to grab lunch at Dough (slow service but decent, expensive food). Afterwards we grabbed a popsicle from the sweet treats spot in the park and had a seat in a quiet spot on the lawn where the kids found hula hoops and a jump rope. All in all, we had a great time. I would have liked an additional play space for the youngest in our group, but he had a blast nonetheless. Free outdoor fun...can’t beat that!

This is a great park with fun play structures, large sand box, water feature, small garden and several places you can stop and grab a bite. Also, when I went on a Saturday it was very busy but the park was incredibly clean. If you have children this is a great free place to spend some fun times.

Is there free parking near Yanaguana Garden? If not, how much is parking?

There is free parking although somewhat limited spaces. You can also find free parking along Main Street. Enjoy!!

Do you have to pay to enjoy all the activities this park has to offer? If so what's the price?

The park is free but it will probably cost to park close by. In a restored small building next to the park is a family owned Mexican popsicle place that serves wonderful, freshly made icy treats in all kinds of flavors, from chocolate to lime and everything in between.
Kids live this park and there's plenty of shaded seating for the parents

You absolutely can bring food to the park. As far as decorations, yes, but I would bring things that are simple-- balloons, tablecloths-- as it might be hard to tape things down?
