I spent time online planning our trip, but we normally start out by visiting the "official" visitor center. San Antonio has the most informative, thorough, knowledgeable, friendly staff we have ever encountered. STRONGLY recommend you go there even it you feel your trip has been well planned.

Wish there were more visitor centers like San Antonio's.

A HUGE thanks to the folks that provided service to us.

Many thanks to Brian at the San Antonio Visitors Information Center for his positive response to my telephone call. I was unable to contact the Mexican consulate in San Antonio with whom I had an appointment next week. As a last resort I called the visitors center and Brian intervened for me. He was able to contact a person who translated the message on the Consulate web site. Thanks to his effort I was saved a lot of travel time and expense. Thanks for going the extra mile for me Brian.

Only public restroom for the Alamo and they close for “lunch” like a bunch of clowns. Dumbest policy ever.

Made part of our experience poor. Making national historical places crap.

Dear Jfc073, Thank you for the rating us here on TripAdvisor. We appreciate you taking the time to visit San Antonio's Official Visitor Information Center and the time to provide feedback about your experience here at the visitor information center. Although it will probably not change your mind or attitude about what you experienced, let me try to clarify a few things so that you’re more knowledgeable about what you experienced. The San Antonio Official Visitor Information Center is not the only public restroom for the Alamo. In fact, we are not associated with the Alamo whatsoever. The San Antonio Official Visitor Information Center is operated by Visit San Antonio, a private non-profit organization. Due to construction of new restrooms at the Alamo, the Alamo does offer very nicely maintained trailers with restrooms in them. I was just on the Alamo property today and they are located behind the Alamo Gift Shop and have been there since construction started on the new building in late 2020. As to why our restroom and visitor information center was closed from 12:30am-1:30pm. I inquired with my staff about your situation and one of my lead travel counselors let me know that she remembers your very unpleasant comments to the Visitor Information Center staff. The Visitor Information Center had already closed for lunch and the Visitor Information Center staff was cycling out visitors who were already in the center, so that my staff could take a lunch break, when you approached the visitor information center and was unhappy that we were closed for a lunch hour and would not let you in. In early March, like other service industry locations, the Visitor Information Center was still short staffed and according to labor practices our company must provide a lunch time for our employees. In addition to that, as a company policy we do not allow one person to run the Visitor Information Center by themselves for the safety and security of our staff. I am sure you can understand and appreciate that, if your family member was in the same position as my staff. I’m sorry that you feel that it’s “dumbest policy ever”, however it’s our policy and I’m sorry that we inconvenience you. But we stand behind our policy. Thus the reasons why we closed for a lunch time. When the entire Alamo project is completed I’m sure you’ll find that a world-class attraction has been created for our visitors to San Antonio with nicely appointed restrooms for our visitors to use. If you would like to discuss your review with me further, please feel free to reach out to me directly, Brian Lang, 210-244-2082, brianlang@visitsanantonio.com Sincerely, Brian Lang, Director of Visitor Information Center

We stopped in here on our way to the St. Anthony Hotel. As it is so hot and humid, we wanted to be sure that we were walking the shortest possible route. One of our hobbies is checking out hotel lobbies, and a DE (TripAdvisor Destination Expert) for San Antonio had recommended this Hotel, and provided the information that Grace Kelly had stayed there.

As soon as we walked in, we were offered help, and not only were we given the shortest directions to the Hotel we were seeking, but, also, we were told of other old historic hotels we would be passing. These were also worthy of a look. Any questions we had were answered and explained. Lots of free brochures on the racks, plus a "just the right size" gift section. If you plan to buy postcards, get them here. Big selection, and only 25 cents each. (Yesterday, we saw the same ones selling for 92 cents each at the Institute of Texan Cultures.)

The Visitor Center is very nicely air conditioned and has clean and comfortable restrooms.

What helpful and friendly staff - visited twice and on both occasions were given all the information we required, and more. Special thanks again to the gentleman who offered to post my post-cards - although I probably should not have mentioned that or he will be expected to do that as part of the service!!!

Stumbled in escaping the heat - thought it was a gift shop. Brian L. Went out of his way to find a few suggestions for a non-chain dinner to celebrate my birthday. Friendly, welcoming, informative.

The Official Visitor's Center for San Antonio would be a good place to start your sightseeing trip. It is located across from the Alamo. We went there and got bus schedules for the VIA City Bus system. We used the schedules for Bus 5 to get to and from the airport and Bus 11-b (not 11-a) to get to the Japanese Tea Garden. My husband picked up a map at the information center so we could navigate around the city; this proved to be beneficial. They also have postcards, shirts, and souvenirs for sale. There is an ice cream store attached to it which would be very appealing on a hot day. We didn't have any questions, but I'm sure the staff would be helpful if asked.

Dear NancyLovesRehoboth, Thank you for the rating us here on TripAdvisor. We appreciate you taking the time to visit San Antonio's Official Visitor Information Center and the time to provide positive feedback about your experience here at the visitor information center. I'm pleased to hear that our staff was able to provide you information about the VIA city bus system. We do not have an ice cream shop attached to our facility, so you may have also visited one of the two other private visitor centers here on the Plaza, however we are the Official Visitor Information Center for the City of San Antonio. We do our best to provide accurate information and have reasonably priced souvenirs in our Visitor Information Center. If you're ever in San Antonio again, we hope that you'll stop by our center and once again take advantage of our services. Safe travels. Located across the plaza from the Alamo, just east of the Riverwalk, this is a good place to stop to gather maps, brochures and discounts for San Antonio attractions. Open daily from 9am to 5pm, the staff was friendly and helpful with many good ideas and suggestions. If you are looking for a way to get around San Antonio, be sure to ask about the trolley lines and daily, unlimited passes for a few dollars per person. A pleasant surprise was the large selection of Alamo and San Antonio related books and souvenirs at prices that as good as or better than we found elsewhere.

I brought visitors from out of state to San Antonio to see The Alamo and other area sites. After visiting The Alamo, we walked across the street to the info center to figure out the best way to get to other area attractions. The staff were very helpful and suggested we buy a $3.00 all day trolley pass and they told us about the three different trolley lines that pretty much went everywhere we wanted to go. They gave us trolley route information and directed us to the Hearst trolley stop and we were on our way! Their help saved us money and time, we didn't have to take a taxi or worry about driving around and paying for parking multiple times. It was also air conditioned and had clean public restrooms.
