I have lived in Texas all my life and now it’s safe to say every large metro area is filled with homeless drug addicted people. These large city’s seem to all be magnets to the downtrodden and social misfits, I was in Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio this week and these people are everywhere. They are not as aggressive in San Antonio yet I will attest to that., but many walking around mumbling and looking disheveled, very sad.
Very sad please help any organizations that are trying to address and help these people.

The Riverwalk along the San Antonio River is one of the best places in the city. It is enjoyable year around and expanding every year. Currently there much (too much to enjoy) work going on.

I always enjoy visiting the Riverwalk despite the large crowds that ascend there on weekends. It seems like there's always something new and exciting going on. From festive crowds in the evening to peaceful strolls in the morning, I always seem to find another previously undiscovered gem every time I visit.

My accommodations were directly on the Riverwalk although on the southerly and less traveled section. Very interesting how they constructed a repair shop and docking station under the streets and parking lots near where I stayed. I found the stroll to be refreshing and cathartic but it can get hot in the middle of the summer. It is truly easy to access the downtown restaurant, convention and shopping centers if you are willing to walk only a couple of miles each way. No Uber needed.

The San Antonio River really defines the old section of San Antonio. Along the river walk it is about 4' deep and lots of ducks call it home. It is rather murky but the love and care the city of San Antonio has poured into this jewel is very evident. It is a must see when in San Antonio.

Historically, the San Antonio River was host to five major 18th century Spanish missions that lined up along the course of the river in San Antonio, including San Antonio de Valero, better known as the Alamo. Today, the river is also host to the San Antonio River Walk, the city's centerpiece and one of its most popular tourist attractions. The river originates in a cluster of springs near the University of the Incarnate Word, about four miles north of downtown San Antonio. It winds it way through the city and follows a southeasterly path through five counties and eventually feeds into the Guadalupe River about 10 miles from San Antonio Bay on the the Gulf of Mexico, a distance of 240 miles. First documented by Spanish explorers in 1535, the river played a role in several major conflicts during the Texas Revolution in 1836. Now it plays a major role in San Antonio's bustling tourist industry as the River Walk, with sidewalks on both banks and lined with restaurants, bars, night clubs, shops and art galleries, follows the river for several miles. In 2009, the River Walk was extended to the north to what is called the Museum Reach, which features such attractions as the Pearl Brewery and the San Antonio Museum of Art. In 2013. it was extended to the south with hiking and biking trails and paddling in the river available to the public.

It was beautiful in the morning! lots of ducks!
Try not to fall in. loved every bit of the city. On my last day in the city we woke up at 3AM in the morning to go to the air port and the employees at the air port weren't there which was frustrating.

I love being in a boat on the San Antonio River. The bodies of water is so calm and is so peaceful.
The San Antonio is a major waterway in Central Texas.
The San Antonio river goes through downtown San Antonio.
The river is quite long.
Worthwhile to see!

This amazing small river winds it’s way through downtown San Antonio. But don’t be fooled just because it is in the downtown city area. The river sits below the downtown area and once you go down to the river level you feel like you stepped back in time. There are boat rides to for small, medium or large groups with experience guides which will take you through the entire route and explain the history,. Plus if you prefer a nice hike there is a walk way which covers most of the river. Finally there are restaurants galore in small section of river walk which can be accessed by most of the hotels downtown. Don’t miss this one while visitingSan Antonio.

NO. Access to the boats for the River Walk are from the hotels, restaurants, etc. They are right on the River Walk. One could park on a street (e.g. Alamo Blvd) and walk through a hotel to get to the River Walk.

Hi. I am pleased to share what I know, but my trip to San Antonio was PRE-Covid closures. We traveled in mid-March, just days before the shut-down. Riverwalk area was open, as were restaurants. I would suggest you pick one or two specific places and call for covid-restricted hours. I would guess the boat tours are open as that is outside, IF they only fill the boats to 25 %. Good luck.

I have a small dog (chihuahua) that I carry in a sling around my neck bag when I'm walking. Is this allowed on one of the boats?

We just did the riverwalk on our own. No charge for the Alamo if you do the self tour?
