I believe that the park is becoming more beautiful every year. We love driving through the park. Really taking care of the trails for people to use.

We took the bus as far as the Witte and then spent a couple hours meandering back. Even off season the Japanese garden is lovely. It was a nice day and the place was alive but so massive I wouldn’t call it crowded. Basically you don’t have to do anything to enjoy the place but there is lots to do if you want.

My husband and I have enjoyed going to Brackenridge Park for decades. The 343-acre park is about 3 miles from downtown and San Antonio River runs through the park. There are a few small waterfalls on the river and a miniature train. The fun train ride cost $5 (free under 2), travels 3.5 miles and takes 15 minutes. There are lots of picnic tables, benches, playscape and pavilions near the water. There are walking/hiking trails throughout the park. There are a variety of ducks and some geese. Half of the park is cleared and the trees are trimmed high. The rest of the park is heavily wooded. The Japanese Tea Garden and zoo are on the edge of the park. The gardens are beautiful and there is no charge. The zoo very nice and cost $18.41 for ages 12+, $14.55 for ages 3-11 and free for under 3. I got discounted zoo tickets on GroupOn. There is no charge for parking, hiking and picnicking.
