Our trolley tour was fantastic. Mark did an amazing job detailing the historical significance of each landmark, little unknown facts, some hints on where to eat and visit, very entertaining and funny for sure, we even learned how to pronounce Peabody properly! Traffic was quite heavy but it is October which is the busiest month in Salem, but our driver Peter drove safely and for the time of day we even went to an extra place. Definitely a great experience!

My fiancé and I have been wanting to go on the “Christmas Carol” trolley ever since we moved to the North Shore but were not fast enough with getting tickets. This year we got very lucky and were able to get tickets for the 8:15 show on December 9th and it was absolutely worth the wait. Our Scrooge was very entertaining with the perfect balance of wit and sarcasm, all of the ghosts were incredible (my favorite was the ghost of Christmas Present) and all the other actors were amazing. I appreciated the modern jokes and the singing, and feeling like you were part of the show made the experience all the more special. This is going to be something that we will go to for years to come.

I’d say this is a ‘must’ - especially if you are coming to Salem via the (great) ferry from Boston, or if it’s very hot or rainy weather, or if you have mobility issues. It was roasting hot when I visited so I greatly appreciated running onto the shuttle trolley from the ferry and coming into town with the friendly driver and guide.
The trolley tour is a non-stop narrated trip rather than hop on hop off. It included a live guide rather than an audio recording and the guide, Jim, was fantastic - knowledgeable and funny. You also get to see parts of Salem you might otherwise miss like Winter Island. These were a great bunch of people and really made my trip, which could have been horrible if I had to make my way to the city centre in the harsh heatwave sun!

Had a fabulous time. 3 generations went and each was amazed and hugely entertained. The cast was the best and each character performed great, especially Scrooge who was a scream, both literally and figuratively. We at already planning on doing next year.

This was the hardest I've ever laughed on a tour. Mark was a great guide. He was absolutely hilarious and clearly very passionate about Salem. We learned a lot of interesting local history, and not just about the Witch Trials. Ramone was also a great driver, making some tight turns absolutely flawlessly. I'd definitely recommend this tour if you're interested in learning more about Salem.

My husband and I took the ghost tour on the trolley. Our guide was pretty funny and told some good ghost stories. Our only complaint was the trolley . The seats were very uncomfortable and everything in it looked like it needed major updating.

What a fun experience!! My niece and were recently visiting Salem and decided to take the trolley tour and we were not disappointed!! Our driver, Victor and tour guide James, were fabulous!! James was very entertaining in his description of the goings on and sites of Salem! And of course Victor drove with such ease in the small narrow streets of Salem. It was a great way to see everything in Salem so you knew what to go back and explore later! I would not hesitate for a moment to take this ride!!

I took the tales & tombstones trolley at 6 pm. I dressed warmly, but the trolley was way too hot. The heat was blasting from under my seat to the point that it was burning my legs. By the end of the trip I felt nauseous. As I left the trolley I told Tammy that the heat on board was too high and the narrator or the guy telling the tales (James) made a sarcastic remark that I really didn't appreciate. I was just trying to save the next group of victims from being slowly cooked on the trolley from hell. Kind of a boring tour.

This is my third time in Salem, and every year I have taken the trolley tour. And each year it gets better and better. Mark and Ramone were amazing, very fun and lots of tidbits of information and stories about Salem and their residents. Highly recommend!

We were on the fence of doing the trolley tour because the line was kind of long, but it actually moved really quickly and efficiently despite it being early afternoon on Saturday. We ended up really enjoying this tour a lot and it was worth the money! We had done a walking tour beforehand and we liked the trolley tour better. Mark was our guide and we loved him. Super enthusiastic and hilarious, while also being very knowledgeable about the area. We also got to see more of Salem by doing the trolley. We would definitely do it again!

Do you think this is better than the hop on hop off trolley? No sure which to do, I will only have limited time in Salem, maybe 6 hours.
Written August 14, 2024
I did not see a hop on hop off trolley. This was non-stop, but since we were the last tour of the day, they let us off at Winter Island for a few minutes. If you only have a few hours in Salem, I recommend one of the walking tours. The trolley was nice, but the walking tour we did (1692: Before and After) was extremely informative. If you want more legend than facts, try a ghost tour. The one we booked thru the Black Cat was very fun.

Approximately how much do tickets cost?
Written April 3, 2023
2023 ticket prices are US$ 22.00 for adults, US$ 21.00 for age 60+ and US$ 12.00 for children from age 6; age 5 and under are free).
It is not possible to purchase tickets online; they need to be bought in person on the day of travel.
You'll see the gazebo on the corner of New Liberty Street & Essex Street, near the bell. They take cash or card payment.

We are coming to Salem on a Sunday in June and we're wondering how often do the trolleys come by each stop. Is it only once per hour, or do they come by every 20-30 minutes. Thanks for the help!

I believe 1 an hour. You can check their website though. Here’s the trolley that does night tours. salemtrolley. com

Where is the best place to meet and park to ride the trolley?
Written August 16, 2019
The moment you step off the boat (ferry) there is a building. ( Long Trailor) that has tickets to ride OR you can purchase tickets on the Trolley the moment it shows up on the Trolly. It is best to go into the building and make sure- however, when we went, it was not crowded at all so we actually purchased tickets on the trolly. However, if you are keen into walking- this might be your best option to walk to your places. In our case- it was way too hot.
