    Fun for all aboard
Went on the tour with my Aunt. BMW was our tour guide. She was so sweet & funny. She made us laugh, kept us engaged. It was very informative, she interacted with us. I highly recommend this tour. She was even kind enough to take pictures with us. She asked me questions about myself, very welcoming as was the staff at Gallows Hill. I would totally go again just to have BMW as my tour guide.

    Absolutely worth the money!
My mom, sister, and I booked the trolley tour and we were beyond impressed! I would absolutely do this every time we come back. Mary, or BMW as she's known, was not only informative, but was absolutely hilarious. She was personable and did a great job interacting with all of the people on the tour ride. She had all of us laughing the whole time and we really enjoyed all of it.

Gallows Hill, especially the trolley, is a must during a visit to Salem.
The Gallows Hill experience was an amazing experience. We started by watching the theater performance, which was very well done and very informative. The next part was simply the best part of our trip to Salem. Our tour guide on the Ghost and History trolley was Black Mary Widow (BMW). Her knowledge of the area was great, but her presentation was fantastic. Her interactions with the guest were hilarious, and kept us laughing throughout. I would highly recommend this as a must do for a visit to Salem!

    Ghosts and Legends Trolley Tour
We did the Ghost and Legends trolley through Gallows Hill Theater and were with Black Mary Widow, or BMW for short, and had a wonderful time. This was one of my favorite parts of our trip to Salem! We sat in front (and it was for my birthday) so we got playfully picked on a few times but BMW was so friendly and incredibly funny. The tour was very informative and spooky overall but the entire trolley was laughing almost the entire way. My boyfriend liked it so much he wanted to go for a second time in one weekend! I highly recommend this trolley tour and a big shout out to BMW for helping make this trip fun and magical!

Worth the visit, not very scary, more informative
This is a newer set of attractions, and they are very well done. These guys do the Lost Museum show next door too. You can tell they're very talented at creating illusions (some pretty cool laser/light effects in both). I guess I'd agree with one of the reviewers, that this Gallows Hill show felt slightly disjointed. I had thought there'd be some acting out of scenes, but it was primarily very quick vignettes with information about different historical events. Technically, the effects were GREAT and the actors (I think there was just one throughout it all) and the special effects for the costumes were fantastic. If you want scary, do the Lost Museum. If you want slight scares with information and nice effects, do Gallows Hill too! Based on our experiences with the Lost Museum and Gallows Hill, we wish we'd done their trolley tour since we didn't really enjoy the one we did go on.

We did the Main Show, Lost Museum and Ghosts & Legend Trolley Tour. The Main Show was informative with a lot of fun effects. The Lost Museum had lots of jump scares and had our hearts racing!! The trolley tour was led by Jack who was a hoot! He was a great storyteller!!

    Ghost Trolley Ride Tour
BMW was a fantastic tour guide for the ghosts trolley ride by Gallows Hill! She did a great job at connecting with all of the guests on board and making it a personable experience. She was also hilarious and made great commentary about anything and everything during the ride. Highly recommend!

An awful company. We arrived a few minutes late due to roads being closed down. After paying $200 for 4 kids and two adults, he said so sad too bad, kids learn from this! Are you kidding me! Awful for families! Dont go! Trust me.

This response is from people who did indeed miss the time for the trolley. Sadly, many people have done so because of traffic and COVID restrictions. We send emails to all patrons stating that if they wish to cancel because of restrictions, you may do so 48s prior to your start time. It also states on our website and on each ticket that late arrivals will not be refunded. I spoke with them personally, and here is my version: When they showed up 6 minutes late, I was very apologetic and sympathetic. I told them that we held the trolley for two minutes, and then told the driver to depart. All other patrons had arrived and were on board. The group was angry about parking and road closures, and wanted their money back. I reminded them of our refund policy and told them that I could not refund the money. I offered that if people miss the next one in an hour, I could try to get them on board. ( it happens, especially with parking issues.) They insisted that it wouldn't happen, again wanting a refund. I told them that we again would not refund, and was being as pleasant as possible, given the fact that they were now blaming us for the tardiness. I never ever said “so sad, too bad". There were children present, perhaps in their teens. One of them even pleaded with the angry mom, and even seemed to understand the situation, and that it wasn't our fault. They trolley was gone, we could not bring it back. The woman finally said (this is a REAL quote, as several other patrons were witnessing the situation) "Well, we are going to leave a GREAT review!" (this one) and I responded that they mean they are going to leave a bad review, to which I will respond to (this one). In my frustration at people blaming us for missed appointment and not taking responsibility for their own actions and mistakes, I did indeed say "kids, learn from this''. My meaning, that they could understand how it was not us who were at fault. I also said “you will probably put that in the review as well". which they did. You as the reader can decide if we are indeed an awful company because we did not refund the money, or if we were in the right, stood by our policy, and did try to find a resolve.

The Guilty - Witch Trial Show was a huge waste of time and money! Spoiler: It isn’t actually a show at all, but relies completely on the audience ad libbing!
To begin, we arrived on time, checked in with our reservation, got our tickets, and waited on line. Soon we were led into the theater and seated, but no one ever actually checked anyone’s tickets. The show started on time with a staff member setting the scene and providing the audience with instructions. 5 minutes later, a group was seated late and the staff member started her speech all over again. Then almost 15 minutes in, another late group was led in by the manager to be seated, but there weren’t enough seats. The manager began counting heads and declared that there were people in the audience who didn’t belong and tried to intimidate them into leaving. He then threatened that he would get the reservation list and check that everyone belonged where they were and that this would waste 15 minutes. After a little while of uncomfortable silence, a woman suggested that everyone just hold up their tickets. The manager said that would take too long and left in a huff. The show then awkwardly resumed with the staff member again starting her speech from the beginning.
Finally, the actual trials began, but it was just random audience members being accused of witchcraft and being called up to the stage, and then other random audience members unexpectedly being called upon as witnesses and having to make up something silly on the spot. Most just said that they heard the accused speaking in tongues. It was ridiculous that the theater couldn’t even create an original show and that the whole experience relied on audience improv and add libbing. The total show lasted 40 minutes with half that time being wasted with nonsense.
Finally, throughout the show, we were distracted by very loud screaming from the people on the ghost tour that was happening behind the stage walls.
Overall, not worth $22 a person and wouldn’t even be worth your time if it was free.

We only did the Guilty! A Salem Witch Trial and I didn't quite know what to expect when booking the tickets, but as a special event that's only offered during the month of October, we were really keen to check it out. While I recognise this event may not be for everyone, it's a fabulous example of how absolutely chaotic the real Salem Witch Trials of 1692 were, where anyone could be accused for anything and people made up evidence because they were wrapped up in the madness of it all. The show is mainly reliant on audience participation, but if you're aware of this and are committed to the idea of it being a participatory show, then it's absolutely spectacular, and the more people are willing to join in, the better!

The Puritan clerical assistant to Judge Hathorne and Judge Hathorne himself did a fabulous job at championing audience participation, giving leading story lines and maintaining character so as to give the audience a true perspective on the horror of the original trials. The trials conclude with the 2 actors breaking character and answering audience questions (to the best of their ability) about the trials or the circumstances surrounding them before concluding.

I'm currently writing my doctorate on the festivalisation of Salem in October, so as an exercise of observation, I thought this was a really fun way to educate and entertain guests who are looking to experience history in a participatory way amidst all the other (at times false) events and experiences offered throughout the rest of the touristic attractions/tours/events. Just fantastic!

I did all three attractions, the lost museum, main show and the ghost and legends trolley tour. They’re incredible, all three were absolutely amazing. We had Black Mary Widow (my girl BMW) as a tour guide for the trolley and she was hysterical and so informative. she made me wish the tour was longer because I could literally talk about Salem all day long, she was so funny. Definitely would recommend Gallow Hills to everyone and anyone who is visiting Salem! Worth every penny we spent!!!

My teenage daughter and I went to the main show at the Gallows Hill Theater and to The Lost Museum and they were both excellent. The show was interesting and entertaining - they do a great job technically for such a small venue. The Lost Museum was a tremendous surprise and not to be missed. Our guide played his role incredibly well and everyone in our group of ten enjoyed it so much. I can't say enough about this experience and we will definitely go back!

This is consistently fantastic. It’s a great way to spend 20 minutes or so for all ages. The visuals, sounds, lights, fog, actors/actresses, and costumes are top notch. The walkway into the audience added a level of immersion that has to be experienced!

The only constructive criticism is have is fog machines flooded the first two rows a bit at times and if that were to be toned down somewhat I think it’d help. Perhaps a caution to those with respiratory conditions to choose seating further back. That being said, I’ll come back every time I visit and would recommend this as a mandatory stop to anyone.

My husband and I, along with six of our close friends, purchased eight tickets during the Summer for our October trip to Salem. The trolley was scheduled to depart at 6:00 pm and we arrived at 5:50. The trolley was full, and there were only seven seats available, as the “owner” quoted someone over booked the trolley that evening. We were told that we had to sit with complete strangers, no Covid restrictions at all except the rule to wear a mask. He was rude, abusive and nasty. When we explained we had a senior who was disabled, and he didn’t care. He wanted us to sit on the jump seat. We were offered two options, ride the trolley sitting next to a complete stranger, NOT COVID FRIENDLY, or don’t get on. We chose to leave and thought we would explain our story the next day at the office. NOPE…the rude owner came out, yelling and said he would refund the one ticket only, because that’s what they overbooked by, and the 8th person in our party could stay behind. We will be disputing this with our credit card company. The owner should be ashamed of himself

There are two sides to every story. Here is ours: The group showed up 5 minutes before departure for a 7Pm trolley. Not a 6pm. (We state that people must arrive 15 minutes prior to departure to check in). The trolley was not full, there were 7 seats available. They were told that they had to sit in different seats, and there were no COVID restrictions, apart from mask wearing. That is a city wide mandate, which we adhere to. The trolley seats 38 people and everyone sits where they can, most often next to strangers. The group complained that if they could not sit together, then they would not board. The owner (me) suggested that they board, but they refused. I was not rude, abusive and nasty. I was abrupt, as we were at departure time. They did not mention a disabled senior, but regardless, there was room for all of them. The jump seat was empty, but only fits two people, so they obviously could choose who sits there. They are actual l seats on the trolley. many people choose that seat. They DID come back, and I was very nice, at first. They stated their case, which I was aware of and wanted a refund. I declined, as they absolutely COULD have boarded. Then, the person kept arguing that they had 8 people and we over booked by one. True. But, they had only 7 people, so they were absolutely able to board, but they refused. I became exasperated, and I indeed raised my voice to the level of irritation, but did not yell. I did offer a refund for one person, who DID NOT ATTEND. The person invited her husband to step in and just repeat the issues, while the spouse recorded it for Youtube. I recorded it as well, just in case. My take away is: They were disgruntled that they couldn't sit together, so tried to get a refund, and used the fact that we overbooked by one to make it seem as thought we were responsible. They felt entitled to be catered to at our expense, and I did not accommodate. Read both the review and my response, and make your own conclusion.

We really wanted to do a night tour but it was FREEZING outside so we decided to look for a trolley tour. We were lucky enough to find the Ghosts and Legends Trolley tour that happened to be doing their first tour of the season. We got tickets to the show before the tour which was a simple but cool little experience to see while we waited for the trolley. As soon as we checked in for the trolley, we were greeted by our guide, Black Mary Widow, and we knew we were going to be in for a good time. She and her driver were absolutely HYSTERICAL and fed off each other so perfectly. She kept us all laughing and she entertained during the whole trip, even the 20 minutes we spent in traffic watching Big Tex try to get his trailer turned around. She had great stories and facts but the delivery really made it the most fun tour I have ever been on. Plus the trolley was nice and warm and such a great way to see the town. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Salem, young or old, it was the BEST most fun thing we did during our stay!

This was so much fun! Black Mary Widow made the tour the perfect amount of spooky, entertaining, informative and even funny. Her comedic timing matched with the great stories proved to be a phenomenal time. She got to know the crowd and was interactive and knowledgeable. Her ‘Dad’ (the driver) was also hilarious. Take this tour. You won’t be disappointed!

This was a very fun myth/history show with good special effects. We had a great time watching the show and the staff was excellent. They are great at answering any questions you may have at the end and explaining the history of the Witch trials in Salem. We definitely recommend! Everyone that was in our shows time slot left raving how awesome it was and what a great time we had. It is a MUST do in Salem!
