About
FAME is a replica of a privateer schooner from the War of 1812. Launched in 2003, our new FAME cruises on Salem Sound, where pirates & privateers have been making history for 400 years. FAME sails from Memorial Day through Halloween from Pickering Wharf Marina in downtown Salem. A great trip for all ages! Our guests are invited to help raise the sails, take the tiller, or just relax with a cold beverage and enjoy the beauty of Salem Sound. Gorgeous waterfront homes & as many as six lighthouses are visible during your cruise. Pickering Wharf is right downtown in a fun location with lots of shops and restaurants. *** However, parking can be a challenge, especially on weekends, and that goes TRIPLE for October! *** Be sure to allow extra time for traffic and parking. The boat leaves on time, and you will NOT receive a refund if you miss the boat.

We had an excellent experience upon the Fame of Salem. The trip around Salem and Beverly harbor was fantastic, while the crew explained the history of the boat along with his historical significance it had in early 1800s America. The trip was extremely interactive with everyone on boat who wanted to being able to draw the sails or steer the boat. Lastly the drinks were affordable and delicious making the entire experience that much more enjoyable.

Even with little wind the sails were unfurled (you get to develope muscles) the crew shared history around every landmark and back to the early 1800's. Beverages and Covid-safe. A turn at the helm made one wonder how they held on in high seas!

My little one loved this they let her steer the boat and light off the cannon at sunset. Great seabreezes, sights and what a nice time. I would go again in a heartbeat.n In fact the picture came up on my facebook feed and made me smile. Good for all ages.

The crew were extremely attentive and wonderful with our 3 year old, doing rope tricks and telling stories. Everything was obviously clean. Ship was slightly smaller than expected but overall it was wonderful. Would reccomend for sure.

Thank you for the kind words, but I do not want anyone to get the impression that this activity is designed for toddlers! If you have to bring a child that young, we understand, but the schooner is a better environment for kids aged six and older.

Great outing with friendly, warm crew. Shared history, tales and all had a chance to steer and work the sails. Fun to watch them set off mini cannon at another ship while one of us screamed out “Do you surrender?!” Even funnier when unsuspecting boat owner raised his hands in the air hollering back “Yes!” :). A must do activity when in Salem! Next time will do sunset sail. Thank you!

This was the best part of our recent trip to Salem. The crew and ship provided for an outstanding opportunity to explore the history of Salem’s sea faring legacy.
This schooner ride about the harbor came with participatory experiences for all who sailed. Helping to raise a sail, taking a hand on the tiller, and hearing all about The Fame of Salem’s vital role in the War of 1812 made this an adventure my two children and I will never forget.

We, as a family of fifteen. had a wonderful time sailing aboard the "FAME" (seven adults and eight grand children).
Four members were under the age of ten and were so happy and eager when asked to help "Set the Sails".
The afternoon weather was absolutely perfect to sail by.
The children were so excited to participate in firing the double cannon salute and learn about the "FAME's" history.
The crew could not have been nicer and were constantly aware for our family's safety.
I highly recommend for other families to sail the "FAME" and enjoy a wonderful adventure!

We had an incredible time on the FAME. The captain and crew are incredible! They were passionate and knowledgeable about the area and the history of the schooner boats. We thoroughly enjoyed our time on the FAME- and would highly recommend it! Also highly recommend getting a bite to eat at the restaurant right next to it before or after! Great food, service. and views. Not sure we will be in Salem again- (but if we are- we will definitely take another ride on the FAME) ! Thank you captain Michael and crew for making this the perfect relaxing end to our trip.

We had a great time sailing on this vessel. Capt Mike and his crew were amazing! They each took great effort making their way around getting to know passengers and answering all questions. We felt like we were old friends! 5 stars for us!!!

Booked 9 of us for a mid-day voyage. We were all so impressed by the Captain & Crew. They were genuinely friendly people, shared interesting saling stories about their personal lives and were a pleasure to be around. The boat was great, very spacious, onboard toilet did the job, drinks were fair priced and plentiful. I will definitely be doing this AGaIN next time I am in Salem.

Even though this is not wheelchair accessible, is it accessible for someone on Walker or cane?

To access the boat, you have to go down a ramp to the dock. Once on the dock, there is a ladder with a few stairs you climb and then step onto the boat from there. I think a person with a cane and some support could do it. The staff is very helpful with this. I am less sure of a walker. I would email or call them first to confirm.
