- ashaff85Indianapolis, Indiana2 contributionsBeautiful horseback ride, trough Saguaro!Great experience! Everyone on staff was great, nice, and respectful of all experience levels. The horses are well taken care of. We did the 2-hour ride through Saguaro. Perfect amount of time to enjoy the views, but not too long for someone who does not ride often to be sore after. The trail leaders are very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and answer any questions you have. Would love to take another ride when in the area again!Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 2, 2024
- Jon NDakota, Minnesota15 contributionsAn awe-inspiring horseback ride in the East section of Saguaro National Park. What can I say? Our family reunion event (15 people) was a perfect experience. People were in awe of the ride in the desert guided by HHR staff. It made a deep, unifying experience for all the diverse family members who made the ride. I got a lot of praise from reunion attendees for arranging this event. The pace was an easy walk, no reason to be reluctant to ride these horses, even if you lack any horseback riding experience. Out behind the compound, I even got a photo of a roadrunner passing by. Whatever number of people in your group (or even for 1 person), you need to make a reservation in advance. Go there! They are great people to deal with, and the setting can't be beat.Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 3, 2024
- NYB120Elmhurst, Illinois5 contributionsNever disappoints! This was our third time riding here and once again Houston's did not disappoint. My husband, daughter and I rode with Bobbi and she made it a wonderful experience. Got to trot a fair amount as it was just the three of us on the ride. It's pricey, but worth it.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 4, 2024
- Dawn D1 contributionAbsolutely WonderfulWe are so happy we chose this ranch to go horseback riding!!! Everyone who we met on the ranch were class acts, helpful, friendly and most of caring for the horses and guests. We rode for a solid 2 hours. Very economical! Thanks to the Houston family and ranch hands. DD and JGVisited January 2025Traveled with friendsWritten January 18, 2025

Owners and staff were personable and knowledgeable. Had option to use or not use a helmet. On time. Reasonably priced. It was a wonderful ride into the National park. There were only 3 riders this a.m., but there were two guides that accompanied us.Visited January 2025Traveled soloWritten January 22, 2025

Live your Wild West dream and saddle up for a ride through the Arizona desert. See cacti, hear coyotes yipping, hear info about the area and its history. Great customer service and attention to detail and safety. Gentle horses who are treated well and suitable for all ages and skill levels. See the working ranch with a museum of antique vehicles and farm equipment, and watch the students getting rodeo training. Channel your inner John Wayne and be the star of your own western!

I cannot say enough about the quality of our Houston’s Horseback Riding experience. Bobbie, the owner, knew in advance that my husband’s last four rides (in other states) had NOT been stellar, and she went out of her way to accommodate him, especially considering it was his birthday!
When we arrived at the ranch, which is an authentic ranch and not just a piece of land with a stable plopped on it, we were greeted by a delightful employee that excitedly told us that a baby calf had JUST been born and took us to see it. The beautiful little baby and its mom were in a stable with two remarkably friendly goats and several other cows and calves, all of who appeared to know how lucky they were to be born at Houston Ranch!
The ride itself was beyond excellent in every way. The horses were incredibly well cared for and totally responsive. The desert terrain was beautiful and the surrounding mountains breathtaking. It was two hours of pure delight! To top off an extraordinary experience, Bobbie let us name the baby calf, and as it was my husband’s birthday and his ride was so perfect, the baby is now a robust and precious little Tom!
If you are a horseback riding aficionado, or a novice and want to give it a try for the first time, this remarkable experience is an absolute must. We can’t wait to experience the magic again!

Family had never been on horses - and kids were desperate to try a ride. Visiting Tucson and realized we could combine the beauty of the dessert with an amazing riding opportunity. Can’t say enough about Houston’s. So professional - animals are clearly loved and well cared for - and owner and her husband seem to legitimately enjoy sharing their little piece of heaven with visitors. Loved Tucson and will be back for ride #2 when we return!

When I researched places to take a trail ride, the reviews for Houston’s stood out, and they were right. This place is low-key, down home, NOT commercial and fake, and everyone I encountered was super friendly and personable. There were 2 wranglers with our group of 7, and owner Bobbi Houston explained that with groups over around 4, they want to ensure people’s safety by having more than one ride along (not everyone does that) She was full of interesting facts and folklore about the Saguaro National Park and especially about the cactus. Afterwards, we chatted a bit about places to see and was I glad! If not, I wouldn’t have known to go up to Mount Lemmon and it was another highlight of my trip!! Highly recommend taking a relaxing trail ride at Houston’s!

If you want an unforgettable and non- touristy horse back riding experience when visiting Tucson look no further and book with Houston’s. The minute you drive on to their ranch you’ll feel right at home. The collection of old trucks, cars and ranch equipment that reside on the sides of the road and around the ranch, also really make the overall experience very unique. We booked a sunset tour and found it extremely enjoyable. Our guide Bobbi (CEO) was super friendly, and knowledgeable about the National Park. She took the time to explain the difference between the various types of cacti we saw along our trail -including the barrel cactus, the jumping cactus and the saguaro. It was also pretty cool to hear her describe how she grew her family business out of her love for Rodeo.
We have been horse back riding in multiple national parks including Brice and along the Colorado River (outside of Arches) but this was the most enjoyable experience we have had to date.

Had the BEST time at Houston's Horseback Riding! Our guide (I believe her name was Callie) was wonderful and very friendly. I did the 2 hour trail ride which takes you along the Tanque Verde Wash and into the Eastern part of Saquaro National Park. You definitely want to bring a camera as the scenery is fantastic, and you get to ride close to beautiful plants and cacti. I found the trails to be enjoyable and appropriate for beginner riders like me. You may get kind of sore after 2 hours of riding, but they assist everyone with getting off their horse at the end :o) They will also take pictures of you with your horse when you get back. Everyone is very nice and friendly, and they will give you some instructions in the beginning on how to steer and control your horse (some like to eat along the way). :o) Overall, I had a GREAT time and highly recommend Houston's Horseback Riding for anyone looking to go horseback riding in the Tucson area. Thank You! Rhonda

From the moment I drove into the parking lot, I knew I was in for a culinary delight. My meal did not disappoint. The warm bread appetizer was equally yummy. The ribs, melt in your mouth with the best savory flavor. Treat yourself. You are worth it!

Wonderful horseback riding experience through the scenic Saguaro National Park (East) with two very knowledgeable trail guides. My horse, Mack, was extremely well-behaved which meant a very enjoyable ride for me. And all the staff from beginning to end could not have been nicer or more helpful.

Would 100% recommend Houston’s Horseback riding in Tucson. Saw all the great reviews so we decided to give it a try while we were visiting. We did a 2 hour morning trail ride. The views were so beautiful and everyone was so kind and welcoming. There were about 6 of us on the trail and they had 3 employees out with us to help with anything we needed and also give us some information on the area and some fun facts. Shoutout to Addison who rode behind me and gave tons of unique interesting facts! The employees talked enough during the trail to keep it interesting, but let a lot of the ride just be peaceful in nature. Perfect experience and would totally do it again!

My favorite part of the ride was crossing the water that was in the wash. My son arranged this ride as part of our visit to Tuscon. The view and nature trail was exquisite and the service by the ranch was superb. I will visit and ride every time I am in Tuscon. My husband had ridden once in his lifetime, as a child, and was reluctant at 72! He loved it, and speaks of it as a "great experience" now that we are back in Michigan, our home state. I loved my horse, in fact, I want to bring him to Michigan!! The desert was beautiful and on our many gray days in Michigan, I picture the panorama in my mind!! Houston Ranch is a must-do!!

I’m answering my own question as we eventually went to this business. In my opinion, if you are careful and are under 30’ in length, it’s no problem.

Greetings.
I have only rode horses twice for less than half an hour. Do you need to have more experience than that for this trail?
Thank you.

You will do great! The staff (and their horses) are friendly and know the trails. Your safety and enjoyment of the ride are their highest priority. Relax and enjoy!

Is the sunset ride appropriate for grandparents in their 60's and early 70's? Or is it too rigorous? Do you have many older people on these trail rides, or is that uncommon?
Written March 14, 2018
This is a great ride. The horses are gentle and well behaved and the staff is friendly and helpful. I am in my sixties and got along fine though the 2 hour ride was long enough as I do not ride very often. (The saddle gets pretty hard.)
