This is a great drive to Old Tucson and the Desert Museum. The road winds through the mountain side with an incredible view of the Cactus. Highly recommend this ride to access Old Tucson.

Yes, this place is everything everyone says it is. The problem is that so are so many other Tucson area spots for a Sonoran experience, and it seems to me that the others are actually better.

Gates Pass is reached via a windy road through the western hills of Tucson, at the pinnacle of the mountain divide between Tucson & Avra Valley. The crest of Gates Pass looks almost straight down the eastern slope of the mountain, down a continuing winding...More

For cyclists, this road is a must. It’s winds through the desert and goes up the Gates Pass proper through the Tucson Mountains from which you get a great view of the surroundings. It’s a good climb though, with a sharp incline just before the...More

Love this drive. More Saguaros than you will ever see anywhere else. Sun sets in Tucson Mtns. Beautiful homes on the way into the park. Leads to Saguaro Natl Monument, Old Tucson and Desert Museum. Visit here every single trip to Tucson.

I first visited Gates Pass with my Mom and Dad in the early 70s. It was his favorite place in Tucson, always talked about it! I always go back when in town. Beautiful views out into the valley west!

Very pretty drive and a bit curvy. Locals tend to travel a little too fast, but ignore them and enjoy all the beauty around you. You can always pull over on a pull out to enjoy the surroundings even more.

The view from the big turnout on Gates Pass Road is just eye-popping. Our only complaint was that it was just filthy. People throwing trash on the ground at a place like this is just an outrage. There was one trashcan that was overflowing. The...More

All above are true. There is a couple of parking lots off the road and a covered viewing area but no picnic facilities, no grills or bathrooms. Just parking and trails.

You can stay in the parking lot and see the sunset or go to a paved overlook area right next to the lot.

At the top of the pass is a nice parking lot. Looks like paths go out several directions.
