Our first trip to AZ. Our daughter took us here. Hiking can be easy or hard, whichever you prefer. Lots of trails, views and cactuses. We went on a cool day, otherwise I'm sure it gets pretty hot. Bathrooms are gross (Johnny on the spot...More

Its a scenic view if you have never been there. I personally dont like the road. Its narrow & if theres bikes & you try to go around you cant see if someone else is coming around the corner, so might be a slow trip.

We ventured to Gates Pass for one reason. Arizona sunset. We were not disappointed. Get there early. Relax. Enjoy every second as the sun drops and the colors intensify.

From town it is about a 30 minute drive to the top of the pass. There is parking and a shelter. From here you can see literally thousands of these desert sentinels. If you go over the pass and continue down into Saguaro National Park...More

Arizona can be named -- land of cacti. This pass is one of examples... If you like cacti and if you are in the area, then this is one of places where you will find them ;-)

We had some time before dinner, so took a drive over and took in the overlook - it was a nice little explore and interesting to see neighborhoods leading up to the pass,

We've travelled this road a couple times and I'm always more impressed with the gorgeous view. Narrow, winding, two-lane road, deep canyons, rock formations and Saguaro Cactus beside the road, lining the canyons and mountainside. There are some pull off points along the road to...More

All above are true. There is a couple of parking lots off the road and a covered viewing area but no picnic facilities, no grills or bathrooms. Just parking and trails.

You can stay in the parking lot and see the sunset or go to a paved overlook area right next to the lot.

At the top of the pass is a nice parking lot. Looks like paths go out several directions.
