Sad to report that this 'cathedral' is generally locked up, except when there is a mass scheduled. Not inviting to visitors who simply show up. Their attempt at refinishing or updating the inside of the building is also quite disappointing - using wallpaper paste-on instead of (hand) painting...and the outside paint job is already cracking or discolored. Gives a real... More

Was able to walk around the exterior of the building but not inside and some of the outside was gated off so you can't get real close to all of it, but what you can inspect is quite beautiful. A great architectural masterpiece in the Southwest style. Great Roman Catholic statuary as well.

We could not leave Tucson without a visit to this beautiful church. We were able to attend to the noon daily mass, and after ,sit, meditate, relax and enjoy a beautiful, simple architecture. While in the church, sit peacefully, just for a few minutes, in silence,in the middle of a big city, but with such a sacred silence . We... More

This is a beautiful structure - I give it a 5 on the external appearance. We were in downtown Tucson on a Sat and made several attempts to tour the interior none of which were successful. This is an active Catholic church so be mindful that services are being conducted on a regular schedule this is not a mission. I... More

We were thrilled at the beauty of St. Augustine Cathedral when we visited Tuscon recently. We had a little extra time to spare and were pleased that it was open, so in we went and found it as beautiful on the inside as on the outside. Take the time to see this lovely, historic structure when you are in Tuscon.

The cathedral has a beautiful exterior and interior and an incredible courtyard with a stage with a beautiful cover of metal sculpture Flowers. Worth stopping to see.

What a page out of History. This Cathedral has more historical information than most 6th grade lesson plans. We were quite edified and instructed.

Of course, the challenge will be getting inside. But with perseverance, an open door or office staff might avail you of the treat of touring this large beautiful church. Built facing east (traditional placement) makes for difficult photos outside in the afternoon, but floods the church with enough ambient light to appreciate the clean lines of the altar, the prayer-prompting... This beautiful architectural cathedral is actually a working parish with regular services so it shouldn't be judged for what it is. It's worth seeing if you are walking around downtown Tucson but treat it with the reverence it deserves.
