    Great Spanish Architecture
We entered the cathedral just as a funeral was ending. The interior is plainly decorated compared to many cathedrals we have visited, but is not necessarily a bad thing as it allows you to concentrate on prayer and contemplation. There is a shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe, patron saint of Mexico. Worth about 30 minutes of your time.

    SW architectural gem!
Make sure you include this in a walking tour of the beautiful downtown Tucson historic district. It's a beautiful cathedral that reminds me of the beautiful churches throughout central America and Mexico. for photographers: Morning and mid day sun is kind of harsh - we were there in the evening when the soft glow of sunset really brought out the colors (and reflected the color of buildings across the street).

    A lovely classic church
When we are in Tucson, we always drop in here for a moment of silent and retreat from our daily business. It is a lovely place to recharge and refuel the soul. Visit this place .. take int eh quiet take in the peace and enjoy the elegant beauty of the building itself.

Nice old church that has been recently restored on the exterior. We were unable to go inside except for a peek due to a funeral service in progress.
Unfortunately they are doing construction on a huge living complex across the street. It would have been nice to see it left in its original setting.

Really impressive church that had a ground up restoration and opened in 1968. St. Augustine is Roman Catholic Church.

St. Augustine Cathedral is well worth a stop if visiting Downtown Tucson. It is lovely to look at inside and outside. The Spanish Colonial Revival exterior features a sandstone facade that displays a saguaro, yucca, horned lizard and various local cacti. The structure also displays a pair of truncated towers.

Inside, the entrance room shows off a nicely done mural design that depicts important figures to the church. An information sign that identifies the depictions stands to the far left when entering the room. The bright cheerful interior makes me feel welcome. The vaulted ceiling has recessed lighting that shines down to further foster illumination. Stained glass windows in mint condition add color to the muted walls. I think the piece de resistance is the crucifix from Spain behind the altar. At least 600 years old, the crucifix is 17 feet high and weighs 2000 pounds.

There is free parking for 15 minutes in front of the cathedral on South Stone Avenue and metered parking nearby.

Wow what a find. This place is a landmark example on a wonderful church, the murals in the interior and the stained glass make this place inspiring and worthy of a stop to see and pray a bit if you want. The Sunday schedule even has a service with mariachis on one time slot. too Cool. The beauty and art make these southwestern churches a constant stop in my travels.

This past weekend I needed to be in Tucson early in the morning. So I opted to attend Sunday mass in Tucson as well. I read that St. Augustine has a weekly Sunday mass in Spanish along with a mariachi band. What a wonderful experience! Even though I do not speak Spanish (unless you consider 2 years of classes in high school 40 years ago), I was able to follow along the songs and prayers with the Spanish/English missalette that the Cathedral provided......with the exception of the priest's homily. In addition to the wonderful music by the mariachi band, including a fabulous version of Ave Maria, another highlight of the service was the inclusion of about 8 participants dressed as 16th century soldiers for the procession into and out of the church. I will definitely return here again! And I recommend it highly for anyone looking to attend Sunday mass in Tucson!

Well maintained Cathedral Church of the Catholic Diocese of Tucson. Were blessed to meet the Bishop after Mass. Stop in to say a prayer on your visit here.

I have been to Tucson a handful of times however never been able to attend mass until this weekend. The cathedral has a very beautiful interior decor, we especially loved the rendition of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the choir area mural of Jesus. We are member's of the Basilica in Minneapolis and love our church but this Cathedral is very unique and a treasure for the residents of Tucson, AZ.

Ample parking available...

I've only been there for a couple of funerals so I don't have much to say. It's a pretty church, but I'm not catholic.

St. Augustine's Cathedral is right in the very city center. It's a classic Spanish style Cathedral in late Baroque style. It has two belfries and beautiful stone carvings above the entrance.
Inside is also nice with stained glass and wooden ceiling.

We were staying close by so walked over. The interior of the Cathedral is stunning, very large and tradition in layout. The ceiling is amazing. This is the only church I have seen a statue of St Therese of Calcutta. The interior walls have beautiful murals/painting of Saints. Make sure you go to the front entry where they have just completed beautiful murals. Beautiful stain glass windows. A beautiful Cathedral and worth a visit.
