I’ve been a docent at a museum in Seattle for 10 years and visited museums and galleries in many countries. But I’ve never experienced anything like Mat Bevel’s Museum of Kinetic Art. I stood in the middle of the large gallery surrounded by many, many art works moving up and down and side ways and back and forth and making sounds. All at the same time! It was a surrealistic experience. I was in the art. Captivated by it. Captured by it. And it was such a treat to tour it with Ned Schaper, the creator. He shared how he works (made from found material, the pieces just take over and go where they go) and why he works (to ignite the imagination, to champion intuition). His sister, Paula Schaper, shared videos which capture his performances, and, most importantly, present their intention to work with the school system to excite and challenge children. And I became a child again stepping into Ned’s world. What fun!

Be prepared to immerse yourself in a fascinating world of sound, light, motion, thought, intrigue, and ingenious creativity. Art and science intersect in strange and satisfying ways. Saturday night Mat even surprised us with a spontaneous performance. You never know what might happen at the Bevelarium! Totally fun experience!
