In the lower gallery. This is a solo show by Mary Dondero and her work is well worth seeing . The upstairs show is a juried member show that also has quality works. Check the web site for dates.

I recently attended a wedding at the Providence Art Club and was totally blown away by the experience. The venue itself is a true gem- from the architecture to the artistic visual masterpieces... the food and most importantly, the service.
The ceremony was held in the courtyard which was perfectly set up to hold the number of people attending. They turned this cozy space into a sweet setting for the wedding and no detail went unnoticed. The staff accommodated everything the bride & groom wanted and added their own special touch (candles along the isle because they knew the bride loved candles).
The cocktail hour took place at the bar which opened up into a larger gallery that was used for mingling and dancing. The bar staff was perfect- always attentive, quick service and pleasant. Meanwhile, the wedding party was on the roof deck for photos. The roof is surrounded by Providence's finest buildings which offered such a unique perspective for photos. The deck includes tables and chairs and the staff was kind enough to bring hors d'ouevres and beverages which I thought was very kind.
The dinner room was set up with long tables and food stations. A Mediterranean mix, the selection was fantastic. Salads, cheeses, olives, breads... followed by fish and meat. Even the sauces on that buffet were out of this world. The staff kindly organized each table getting dinner to avoid chaos and long lines.
After dinner, the party moved back to the cocktail area for drinking and dancing. Overall, this was the best wedding I've ever attended. Aside from everything done by the couple, I just thought the staff was just fantastic. Seb and his wife really did not leave any stone unturned and were present throughout the event. They were always wholeheartedly interested in keeping everything organized and everyone happy. This showed at the rehearsal the night before as well. I would recommend hosting your events at this venue and please stop by if the opportunity presents itself. Wonderful experience.

Beautiful historic building. Go for the little pictures show from Nov through Dec. Everything for sale for $250 or under. You will not be disappointed.

Housed in a series of 4 historic buildings, the Providence Art Club is a quiet treasure. The buildings themselves have histories dating back to the very beginning of Providence and are very well preserved by the club membership. The art from that era is displayed in their "Foundation Room" topped off with a ceiling painted of clouds by one of it's members. The contemopary art, done by the membership is housed in two different gallery spaces and changes frequently. These are open to the public everyday from 1-4. I saw a unique show by 12 of the members' 90+ year old painters that was very impressive indeed.
If you can catch a board member while you are visiting you might just be able to see the rest of the buildings. This was very much worth the hike up the steep hill that they were built on.

I've enjoyed the variety of the artwork. Though small, they display the art beautifully, the building is historic. The exhibits excellent. Great for a group that wants a little art but not a huge museum.

We attended a cocktail party here. There is so much see! Everywhere you look in this historic building, there is an interesting work of art. Also, the food and service were excellent.

Make a point to stop in and look around. It's all pretty amazing. The decor, the architecture, and of course the art on the walls. Do yourself a favor and have a peek. And stop in at The Fleur de Lys studio/gallery connected to the club. It's all great.

This bastion of Providence Art has a long history. You can see many examples of that in the unique gallery spaces, but there are also shows of current work by members. Work by Nancy Gaucher Thomas and Mimo Gordon Riley are currently on display.

I always admired the exteriors of the beautifully preserved buildings on Thomas Street in Providence. I never knew they were property of the Providence Art Club and open to the public to view exhibits. It's a treasure!

Each year the Providence Art Club holds a Little Picture Show of paintings created by its members. This is an opportunity to buy original artwork by some of RI's best artists -- and support the Art Club. Plus, it's worth attending the Show to view this historic building: it's the first private Art Club in the USA.
