The sole remaining art house in Providence that shows interesting indi films and “live” performances mostly from the National Theatre in London. A throwback although the popcorn is still too expensive

Since high school, I've seen multiple movies at Avon Cinema, many of which never had a mainstream release. I feel fortunate that I'm able to see these movies or documentaries and thrilled that they're shown at a historic theater. When you walk in the door...More

There aren't enough of these around any more, so the 30 minute trip to Avon Cinema in Providence is worth it. They show independent films in an old-style theatre; no reclining seats, but who cares? The price is reasonable, and it's easy to find parking...More

Stepping into this theatre is like dating in the fifties. Very well maintained, good acoustics, friendly personnel, nice assortment of goodies. A nostalgic and fun experience. Highly recommended.

One of the oldest theatres in our city. Nostalgic and quaint offering great films not seen at typical cinema's. Right on Thayer Street so there's lots to do nearby. Fantastic Indian restaurant across the street.

The times I've gone to the Cinema were when there were either shadowcasts of older films (Rocky Horror Picture) or newer niche films (Repo: The Genetic Opera). I don't know if Avon would succeed in a different area or on another street, but something about...More

As a student at Brown in the late 50s, I spent a lot of time in this wonderful theatre. Some of my favorite movies there were: "Diabolique" (I jumped out of my seat at the bathtub scene), "Wild Strawberries" and "The Seventh Seal" (early Bergman),...More
