My sister and I took the Providence River and Upper Bay Lighthouse Cruise with Save the Bay. We met at their center near the river. What an impressive and beautiful building they have! The cruise was well -organized. There was some wind and choppy waves but Captain Chris did an outstanding job keeping the boat comfortable. We saw several lighthouses and Dave the narrator was terric describing their histories. The captain got us real close and gave us plenty of time to take photos. We got to tour the refurbished Ponham Rocks Lighthouse as our last stop. It is fantastic! I highly recommend taking a lighthouse cruise with Save the Bay. I'd love to do it again.

This tour was absolutely amazing! I lost count of how many different lighthouses we were able to view! It was a smaller vessel, and the weather was perfect! Our tour only had about 15 people on it. The tour guide, captain and assistant were all fantastic and helpful. They answered all of our questions, and it was a very phenominal experience. Each lighthouse (some still homes, some coast guard metal towers) had fascinating facts or stories to go with it! The Ponham Lighthouse Tour was fantastic. We were the first group, so the museum wasn't quite finished-but the renovations were perfect. I wish we could go back and see the museum areas when it's completed! The lantern room was a tight fit going up the stairs, and really really hot, but still worth the climb! Fantastic views. Our son (8) was the only child on board the vessel, but the crew were friendly and helped make him feel involved, too! He loved using the binoculars they provided. There is no food served on board, but they do have complimentary water and soda. You can also bring along a bag of snacks. We had a 1:00 departure and were running short on time, so we just brought our subs with and snacked between lighthouses. You see so many (more than pictured). The captain takes you super close to each one and slows down to ensure everyone gets the pictures they want!
