WaterFire Providence is an independent, non-profit arts organization whose mission is to inspire Providence and its visitors by revitalizing the urban experience, fostering community engagement and creatively transforming the city by presenting WaterFire for all to enjoy. This award-winning sculpture by Barnaby Evans installed on the three rivers of downtown Providence, has been praised by Rhode Island residents and international visitors alike as a powerful work of art and a moving symbol of Providence’s renaissance. WaterFire’s over eighty sparkling bonfires, the fragrant scent of aromatic wood smoke, the flickering firelight on the arched bridges, the silhouettes of the firetenders passing by the flames, the torch-lit vessels traveling down the river, and the enchanting music from around the world engage all the senses and emotions of those who stroll the paths of Waterplace Park. WaterFire has captured the imagination of over ten million visitors, bringing life to downtown, and revitalizing Rhode Island’s capital city.

Year after year I make my way down to Waterfire and each time I am amazed at the beauty of the concept. Despite the massive organization and effort required, at it's heart it is the simplest of concepts: bring people together at the river to be warmed by fire. It celebrates the restored urban fabric and makes the river, which... More

Be sure to check their schedule for the nights; often times there are special events/sponsors of the event. There are always a ton of people with hardly any parking nearby (you can park in the mall for a fee). There are street artists and musicians all around the canal. Romantic music blasts and echos throughout. Not great idea to walk... More

So relaxing to be with literally thousands of people enjoying the night air, the flaming cauldrons reflected in the water and mesmerizing music. My family has enjoyed this experience together several times and it is magical, unique. Make your plans now!

We happened to be in Providence for the most recent waterfire event. We had dinner at Jacky's overlooking the river and it was a great venue! If you haven't seen it- it is an event that is scheduled at various evenings over the summer mainly and involved the lighting of braziers of firewood along the river along with music. The... More

Scores you major points in the romance department. Here's my plan when I attend Waterfire: - Appetizers and drinks at Venda Bar on Federal Hill - Coffee and desert at Pastiche -... More
