I booked with Jared based on reviews and they were dead on. Came by myself, mostly just to escape for a week to the mountains, and I hadn’t been to Estes Park previously. I asked for “whatever he thought would be unique to the area” and he certainly delivered. I did two morning tours with him and wish I’d booked more. Not only did I see amazing views and critters that were around, but Jared is absolutely full of knowledge and was able to answer every random question I had. “What’s that plant?” He knows all the plants and random facts about them. Like choke cherries were used as a mild anesthetic, usually for cough syrup. I can be worse than a two-year-old about asking questions and he had answers to them all including “why do bighorn sheep have white butts?” Based solely on these tours I’m going to see if I can arrange to come back in a different season and if I can I’ll be scheduling with him again. Whether you’re looking for hiking or views or critters or photography pointers or whatever other reason you’d want a guide, Jared is your guy.

Jared took us on a driving tour of RMNP looking for Big Horn Sheep, Moose, Elk, Deer and smaller animals in August 2021. Check, check, check, check. We saw everything. Jared knew exactly where to go to see the animals at the time of day we were looking. He has top notch binoculars and scopes to help you see the animals even at some distance. Lucky for us, we were able to see most everything from a relative short - but safe distance. Not only did we see so many animals, but we learned a great deal about them, too. Jared is an expert on both the animals and the Park. And, has an engaging personality that keeps all that information interesting.

Jared Gricoskie, owner/operator of Yellow Wood Guiding, was our photography tour guide early on the morning of September 2, 2021. We were initially planning on landscape photography, but clouds rolled in overnight. Jared was very flexible and offered alternative activities; we switched quickly to wildlife. Whether landscape or wildlife, Jared new his topics in depth and, most of all, he knew where to be and at what time. He quickly took us to an elk herd he knew well, explained safety protocols and actively guided us through a fantastic photo shoot. As we moved around to best vantage points, he talked in detail about elk head and body language and what it meant. He explained behavior, life patterns, birth cycles and more as we went along. He made sure we were getting what we wanted and made our enjoyment of the day his focus. We split our day into a morning outing and a later afternoon outing. In the afternoon session, we opted for more education on photo composition, camera techniques and where to go to see different Rocky Mountain subject matter. He was very open and giving in talking about places we could go in upcoming days and what to look for. Jared was well prepared for our outings and knew far more than we might have expected. We had four in our group and would all highly recommend Jared and Yellow Wood Guiding.

What a great tour! Jared was so friendly and knowledgeable. We saw all of the wildlife we were looking for and then some. We booked a tour for our kids before we took ours and the kids were asking if they could take our spot because they enjoyed it so much. I realize with seeing wild life some of it is luck, but he got us to the right locations at the right times based on his experience in the park. You will not be disappointed with this tour! We would have enjoyed the tour if we had not seen wildlife because the scenery and history was worth it. Thanks Jared!

I admittedly have unrealistically high expectations, and Jared was AMAZING. He has spent years studying RMNP and its animals and he knows their patterns -- things like the temp at which we'll see animals, and almost the exact time. He is professional and patient. I look forward to doing another tour with him.
