My husband, in-laws and I were planning our trip to RMNP, and I reached out to Yellow Wood for information about a private tour 8 months ahead of time. I'm a little OCD/Type A, and Jared couldn't have been more patient and accommodating. He answered all my questions, especially when I got confused about the park permit and timing versus the park pass. The day of the tour, he showed up at exactly 6:30 am on the dot, fully prepared with binoculars for everyone. My in-laws were solely in it to see animals and especially wanted to see elk and hear them bugle; I wanted that plus interesting tidbits about the animals' behavior. We got all that and more! Jared knew exactly where to go in the park to see elk and mule deer, and we went into the Big Thompson Canyon to see bighorn sheep and even prairie dogs. We were able to get out of the car (at a safe distance) and take pictures, ask questions, etc. He even gave us options like there's a 2% chance we see a moose at one place OR a 75% chance we see sheep at this other place. The vehicle was incredibly comfortable for 4 of us, and it was apparent that Jared really enjoyed his job and talking with people about the animals (even birds), landscape, history of the area, and tips places to go and see in and around Estes Park. Four hours was a perfect amount of time for the tour, and we all felt super safe with the mask mandate in the car. Highly recommend!

This guiding expedition was the highpoint of our week-long trip to RMNP. Jared is absolutely incredible! He has such amazing knowledge of photography, wildlife, and nature. My wife and I took an early morning 6 hour wildlife photo trip and were not disappointed. The value of the morning session was tremendous. We awakened very early to get to the appropriate locations. He knew where we'd find moose and elk to photograph, and right on cue, we spied a large bull moose and a number of cows. We also spent awhile photographing juvenile moose having a fun time in the meadow. He then took us to a meadow right on the Great Divide where we spent awhile shooting photos of bull elk. We took some time to learn how to take phenomenal landscape photos. We finished at the tundra with photos of pika, marmot, and weasels. As we stopped at the Rock Cut, we were told by another. professional photographer who was there...."You guys are with the best there is!" I am an amateur photographer and physician, and Jared taught me things I'd never paid attention to in my Canon camera. He showed me how to take phenomenal wildlife photos and landscapes. One can only speculate as to how he must have obtained all of his knowledge - his understanding of optics rivals that of a physics major, his knowledge of the biology and habits of animals would rival that of a veterinarian, and his familiarity with the history and ecology of Rocky Mountain National Park is incomparable. We will definitely enlist Yellow Wood Guiding's help on our next RMNP visit, be it another photo safari, a guided hike, or just a wonderful tour of places unseen.
