The snowshoe adventure was beyond what was expected. Jared was very knowledgeable and adapted the tour to exactly what we were looking to do. We wanted views and he delivered all while providing nature/wildlife facts along the way. We had an amazing time and would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to enjoy the outdoors with an amazing mountain backdrop. Highly recommend.

Spent 7 hours with Jared, doing a snowshoe hike in the morning and a nature/ wildlife safari in the afternoon. From the initial emails I could tell Jared is an attention to detail kind of guy and that it was going to be a great adventure. My initial impression was correct. When Jared picked us up he asked us questions to make sure he knew our interests and could then customize our trip. We spent the morning snowshoeing up to Dream Lake, took a lunch break and then spent the afternoon driving to find wildlife, talking about ecosystems, local history, geology, impacts of climate change seen in Rocky, and many other things. Jared is very knowledgeable in many areas so it was great to ask him questions about different things seen throughout the day and knowing he’d have an answer for you.
Can’t recommend him enough. It was the highlight of our trip. Thanks Jared.

Booking with Jared was the best decision we made! His knowledge of RMNP and the surrounding area is invaluable. We booked an afternoon excursion for a more general park tour and photography lesson and a sunrise/wildlife tour the next morning. The weather forecast was a bit uncertain for the morning, but he watched it closely and we proceeded and ended up with a wonderful photo experience. He was very patient and look the time to understand what we were hoping to get out of both excursions. I have a much better understanding of my camera's capabilities now. He also offered use of his equipment if necessary. I would highly recommend booking with him, you won't be disappointed!

My dad and I went out to Estes Park over Christmas and decided to do some tours since we didn't want to rent a car and there are no shuttles this time of year. I stumbled across Jared's website and decided to try a Winter Wildlife Safari. If you are in the area and want to go see great things and learn a ton, one of his tours is the way to go. He asks what your goals are and curates an experience around those goals. We chose a blend of wildlife and scenery, with our priority being a Bighorn Ram sighting. This itinerary took us away from the park/town and down Big Thompson Canyon (which we never would have done on our own). We got lucky and within half an hour we'd accomplish our main goal and did some sightseeing before heading back to the park for our second priority: Elk bucks. Again, Jared knew just where to go and what time to be there, as well as what side stops to make for a great view or two. In addition, he was a wealth of knowledge from all aspects of the area to photography. This tour was the highlight to my trip and I will definitely book another tour with Yellow Wood when I return to Estes Park.

I booked with Jared based on reviews and they were dead on. Came by myself, mostly just to escape for a week to the mountains, and I hadn’t been to Estes Park previously. I asked for “whatever he thought would be unique to the area” and he certainly delivered. I did two morning tours with him and wish I’d booked more. Not only did I see amazing views and critters that were around, but Jared is absolutely full of knowledge and was able to answer every random question I had. “What’s that plant?” He knows all the plants and random facts about them. Like choke cherries were used as a mild anesthetic, usually for cough syrup. I can be worse than a two-year-old about asking questions and he had answers to them all including “why do bighorn sheep have white butts?”
Based solely on these tours I’m going to see if I can arrange to come back in a different season and if I can I’ll be scheduling with him again. Whether you’re looking for hiking or views or critters or photography pointers or whatever other reason you’d want a guide, Jared is your guy.

My husband and I took a snowshoe tour first thing in the morning. We met Jared at the Estes Park Visitor Center, as we were staying at a private condo. He drove us to Bear Lake, where we made the trek to Emerald Lake. He was very friendly and knowledgeable, giving us information and answering any random questions we had. He made sure to tailor the trip to what we wanted, giving us the views along with the fun aspect of snowshoeing. I highly recommend doing a guided tour with him!

What a day! Jared picked us up at 5 am for our hike. We saw an great assortment of animals on our way into the park and Bear Lake Trail. He told us some of the history of the park and area in our way in. Once we started hiking he told us about the different trees, birds, fish in the lakes, etc. He also paid close attention to how we were doing on the hike and took breaks when needed. We made it to emerald lake on what he said was a very rare day. The reflection was amazing. On our way down he told us about places to eat and other things to do while in the area. I would highly recommend taking a tour with Jared.

I contacted Jared well before our trip to begin discussing the best options for my wife and I. We ended up with an all (2 parts actually), sunrise and sunset. Jared recommended watching videos prior to our trip. They were very helpful and informative if you are into photography at all. He picked me early that morning but we had no sunrise because of clouds. He was very flexible trying to match the weather with my wants. We ended doing shots where you need clouds like waterfalls and aspen trees. The morning worked out nice. I was back to my room by 8:30. The evening was as clear as could be. He took us high across the continental divide with an ultimate goal of a two minute window at sunset. Jared is very knowledgeable, but instructs you at the level that you need without intimidating you. Such a pleasant young man. We were never rushed and it wasn't cheap but I don't do this very much. I got some lovely pictures and learned a few things in the process. He tried to make the trip what you wanted.

Jared Gricoskie is the consummate professional Wildlife and scenic Photography Guide.
As a serious amateur Nature Photographer I booked two full days with Jared and couldn’t have been happier with the experience.
Jared has spent 16 years making a serious study of the landscape and wildlife in the Estes Park area of the Rocky Mountain National Park. There’s NO ONE more knowledgeable and better equipped
to help me meet my Nature Photography goals during a two day PhotoTour.

I admittedly have unrealistically high expectations, and Jared was AMAZING. He has spent years studying RMNP and its animals and he knows their patterns -- things like the temp at which we'll see animals, and almost the exact time. He is professional and patient. I look forward to doing another tour with him.

Which do you recommend for wildlife viewing? Early morning or evening? We would like to get some sunrise or sunset photos as well.

Are there any day tours not so early or so late? Maybe start between 10 and 3? It will just be me and a friend. TIA!

Sorry no, only Sunrise and Sunset Tours are available. In the mid-day the crowds are horrible, lines just getting into the park can take over 1 hour, there are very few wildlife views, very little places to park, and a high chance of thunderstorms.

Sorry, tours are limited to 4 guests.
If you will be driving your own vehicle, not renting, something that can handle 6 adults we can take your vehicle and I would drive. There is a minor discount if we take your vehicle for a larger group.

Is there an age limit? I have two boys ages 10 & 13, and was wondering if they'd be able to handle it!?

It really depends on your boys. Well-behaved children of those ages would love it. If your kids are constantly whining or fighting with one another, I don't think anyone in the car will enjoy it. Are they able to adjust their behavior appropriately (whisper in libraries, sit still in restaurants, not touch things in museums)? If so, I'd say go for it.
