be prepared for a few changes if it's been awhile since you last visited
Jun 2021
Visited in Oct 2020 and then came back this summer. Summer definitely more crowded with families traveling etc.

Used to be you could park free in the lots behind the main street businesses--those days are gone--now you pay $2 hour--you have to go over to the little kiosks in the lots and insert cash or debit/credit to pay. I would suggest going early so you can at least get a close parking spot but park more towards the middle or drive a ways into the lot, we parked right up near the parking lot entrance and when we went to leave it was much busier with more traffic coming into the park and we got trapped in our parking spot because of the lines of traffic snaking up and down the parking lot aisles so go further into the lot and away from the entrances/exits so you can get out of the spot when your ready to go.

Also you can no longer just drive up to the Rocky Mountain National Park gates and just pay and go in to drive around or up Trail Ridge Road. Now you have to reserve a time to show up at the park if it's between 5 a.m. and 3 p.m. for certain areas of the park and then there are other areas of the park you reserve a time between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m.--this is apparently the new method of doing things from May to mid-October--there are also shuttle buses that take you into the park. You can make your reservations several weeks in advance by going on the national parks website and filling out a form. Once your reservation is filled out you will receive a code. Also you will need a smart phone or some sort of printed paper with a bar code or some such thing when you arrive at the entrance to the park and this code is scanned in at the park entrance--it costs $25 dollars per vehicle for passenger car to get in but the fees vary depending on if you are military or senior citizen--you can look this information up on the park website. Anyhow, it seemed like alot of hullaballoo to go through just to drive through the park so we skipped that.
Downtown is pretty active during the day--shops seem to be open and running as well as the eateries.

We stayed about a mile out of town and only visited once. It reminds me of Gatlinburg without the Ripley's attractions. We thought it was crowded with mostly cheap shops and lots of ice cream.

Lots of shops, best traffic cops EVER
Jul 2021
I'm was hoping to post a short video of the traffic cops in Estes Park. They put their all into it. But no. All I can say is, they are entertaining!

Lots of shops, as you would expect in a tourist town, but some lovely parks and scenery, as well. How long you want to stay depends on how you like crowds.

This was my favorite town in CO while I was on vacation.

This area is worth going to. It has beautiful scenery and lots of shops ranging from restaurants to tshirts to jewelry to art to rocks. I ended up buying a beautiful Irish necklace that I found at the Highland Bard.

Beautiful town in at the base of mountains
May 2021 • Friends
We were so excited to walk through town and have a group of elk cross the street in front of us, and hang out right in town. Nice shops, restaurants and walks. Pretty lake, and the snow capped mountains were beautiful. Really nice place to visit

Lots of great shops and restaurants!
May 2021
Shopping in Estes Park is fun! Lots of great shops. You can find anything from candy to food, jewelry, and outdoor gear. The intersections have pedestrian traffic lights and it feels safe. There is free parking at the visitor center which is a short walk to downtown or during the off season there are areas downtown with free parking.

Fun Town with Cute Shops
Apr 2021
We really enjoyed downtown Estes Park although we couldn't fully enjoy it because it started to rain (we went during spring) so the town was not crowded like I've heard it is other times of the year. It is definitely touristy. Many quaint and cool shops to explore. I love how the river runs right through town. Be sure to walk the river walk and take in the Stanley Hotel, both are so worth seeing. Don't forget to bring home some fresh salt water taffy. The place pretty much closes down after about 5 pm. There are great places to stay too all along the beautiful scenic roads. This is a family town and there is tons for the kids to do. Rocky Mountain National Park is right there, and that will take you at least a full day to see, so plan to stay overnight if you want to get it all in.

beautiful and dog friendly
Oct 2020
lots of cute tourist shops that I could bring my dog into, easy to walk and designed for pedestrians. Plenty of trash cans as well so if your dog poops you aren't walking all over looking for a place to dispose. Lots of cute restaurants as well but I have found a favorite closer to rocky mtn national that i have also reviewed.

Lots of Great Shops!
Apr 2021
Such a cute downtown district with lots of stores for all ages. Trendz was so much fun looking through but was pricey. My teenage daughters enjoyed checking out Lithium. No charge for parking while we were there. I expected to pay, so that was a pleasant surprise. We were in the "off" season, so not sure if there are parking fees during the summer months.
