Opening before the end of March, Shady Lakes is known to locals as a unique place in the region for it’s beauty, sure-to-catch fishing, and great birding (especially if you’re early through the gate to see water birds before they’re disturbed by the fishers.) It’s a great place to take little kids to catch their first fish. Gorgeous views through the mature cottonwoods to the Sandia Mountains. Bring your own folding chairs and you can sit on the bank of the large lily pond to watch the birds and dragonflies, or sit at one of the picnic tables to watch the fishing action. Ponds are stocked with trout and bass (in cold and warm ponds, respectively) before opening for the season. The entrance fee is $4.95 if you’re not fishing. Watch the Albuquerque Journal fishing report or call 505-898-2568 for more info. Enjoy!…

Bring the whole family to fish, picnic and enjoy nature! You will be glad you did!…

I've been going to Shady Lakes for well over 20 years. I caught fish there during Elementary School field trips and later on in life it enjoyed catching bass and bluegill in the larger ponds. Shady Lakes has been owned by the same family for decades but now is wanting to sell. Since they have made the decision to sell there has been very little maintenance done on the property. There are holes everywhere in the pathway that are Hazard to walking, there are tree branches all over the pathways which have not been maintained so you have to watch for Russian olive branches poking you in the eye. In addition to that the water level was about a foot-and-a-half lower than normal and as a result slimy green algae has already covered the Lakes. It is sad to see Shady Lakes to decline to such a poor state I hope somebody does by the property and return it to the former glory that it once held…
