My son and I played on a Friday having booked a week earlier, it was cooler cloudy and windy however the course was in great shape. This course has a variety of tee boxes that can challenge the best of golfers. It is easy to get into trouble if you get of course with a shot. Many sand hazards to give you practice from the beach! Don’t forget to take some pictures on your round of the scenic mountains that are adjacent to the course. Only thing that prevented a 5 star, was bad unfriendly and grumpy attitude of one of the girls in the golf cart area, long blond hair, steer clear of her. Our first golf cart after 3 holes was flashing battery low light, after the 6 hole on each little hill the cart would buck and kick, finally we made it around and got a new cart for the back nine! After about 4 hole s same thing low battery light, and it also acted up for the last 2 holes. Since we were off early in morning it seemed battery’s should have lasted better.

I played Sandia on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 and the course was in great condition. In comparison to Paa-Ko Ridge, University of New Mexico and Twin Warriors, I rate Sandia as the best of these four courses I played. The course is comparable in condition to Paa-Ko Ridge but for a third of the cost (approx. $75).

The driving range is included in the green fees. The tee boxes, fairways, greens, traps, etc. are all in great shape. The staff on site are very helpful and professional.

After flipping a coin on which course to play in Albuquerque, I'm thankful it landed in Sandia's favor! It was a memorable day filled with majestic mountain views and lush greens that'll spoil you rotten. Every step of the way from check-in to eating lunch in the clubhouse or in the open-air veranda was of excellent service. Having the latest GPS technology in the golf cart was a bonus. Be mindful that Sandia is a challenging course; however, it does not overshadow the experience of enjoying the environment. Our tee time was mid day and we thought the June temperatures in ABQ would suffocate us but we were wrong; the dry heat was manageable (considering we are from the deep South of high humidity). We did not have Sandia's hotel accommodations but during our visit we noted it was very appealing inside and out. Note: Their new golf clubhouse and spa facility will be in same building overlooking the course and is set open in 2015. It is sure to be marvelous! Bring your female golf partners to play a round or let them enjoy spa services nearby while you play...that'll be a win-win situation!

I got a gift card to play this course and I called for a tee time as a single. They said I would have to pay an extra $25 to have a golf cart to myself. This is a total rip off sicne the reservations in the area have all had problems with COVID, you figure they would be extra careful but I guess they are more concerned with ripping off single golfers who are concerned about not catching covid. There are plenty of other courses in the area that do not rip off singles and I will be playing all of my golf there. This course is nothing special to begin with and it is not worth the price.

This golf course is corporate golf at its best and worst. Well-manicured course and efficient staff.
On the negative side, golf carts that will frequently buzz at you or ring bells or just plain stop completely if you stray by a few yards from your designated path or go a couple miles per hour too fast.
If you like the feeling on a golf course of getting out in the open away from it all then Sandia is likely not for you.

Thank you for your feedback. We certainly understand the frustration with buzzing and bells and have removed most them to improve the experience. We hope you are able to visit again.

Six of our group of nine played here. Staff was friendly & very helpful. If you are staying at the Sandia Resort hotel, they will shuttle you and your clubs to the Clubhouse and back when you're finished.

They had aerated the greens, so we got a discount on the rate - $45 each, including the cart. The driving range has more balls available than you can hit (included in the greens fee). Carts have GPS screens.

TIP: Don't go off the cart path on the 1st Hole. Your cart will stop & you will have to back out. The group behind us thought it was funny watching us try to turn around to no avail.

This is a challenging, yet enjoyable course to play. Plenty of desert rough for the errant ball to hide in, but if you can keep it in the fairways you'll have a great time. Since we had a variety of player levels, we opted for a scramble format - two teams of three. Our final score was 67, and the other team's was 72. Everybody had a great time.

Used to be great but every year the play gets slower. Beautiful backdrop and pretty course but overplay has taken its toll, especially on the greens. Rates keep going up too and now they don't even publish the rates. You have about a 20% chance of your golf card battery going dead. Used to play 10 times a year but have cut back to 2 to 3 rounds and have headed north and south.

My daughter's wedding reception for 150 guests. P-E-R-F-E-C-T. Beautiful views and great ambience, excellent service, fantastic food. We had cocktails and appetizers out on patio that overlooks the golf course and has beautiful views of the Sandia mountains. They set up bar tables beautifully with house décor and ties. Guests were welcome to play a bean toss game (they provided) out on the lawn. Mariachis played throughout dinner inside the ball room. Chiavari chairs are worth the added expense. We used our own, but they are able to provide center pieces, votives, etc. at no extra charge. They stuck to a set limit on the alcohol (opted for the one below premium). Plated entrees received rave reviews: prime rib, salmon, or mushroom tower w/ marinara pasta; each served with asparagus and potatoes au gratin or garlic mashed. Since we provided the cake, they threw in the champagne toast. Also graciously permitted us to have an Italian ice truck appear for a treat before the night was over. Before the reception, they provided a dressing room for bridal prep and allowed ample time for any set-up that we wanted to do. Highly recommend. Would do it all over again!!

Sandia is my home course for many reasons. I consider it one of the top courses to play in NM, definitely in the top 10 and arguably in the top 5. If you live in ABQ, you should consider joining the Champion's Club. If you are a golfer visiting Albuquerque, you should put Sandia GC on your short list of things to do while you are here.

1) The Course: This is a challenging layout that I consider to be the best example of New Mexico desert golf. From the tips it is a monster, even for the higher altitude of NM, but there are 7 tees to choose from (5 for 'adults' plus 2 sets of youth tees with their own scorecard) that offer a challenge for every golfer. You do have to think a little to get around; you can't just pull out the driver on every hole with some blind tee shots, strategically placed hazards & arroyos, especially with the native areas being very tough. The prevailing wind from the west can make it even tougher, too (beware Spring golf in the afternoons; the wind tends to crank up dramatically around 1PM or so). The views are INCREDIBLE from almost anywhere on the course. It is well maintained with only a few spots that could use some drainage/irrigation work (too wet in a few spots, surprisingly). GPS carts with touch screen 'point to point' distances will give you a good idea of the layout & what lines to take off the tees. Free range balls with your round & nice putting greens (there is one at 1st tee if you get there late) & chipping areas.

2) Value: The greens fees are a great value for the quality of the course & amenities. Kids under 16 play FREE with an adult, affordable greens fees, free range balls with your round. For out of town visitors, compare this to Paa-Ko and Twin Warriors; I consider Sandia on equal to both but it is cheaper to play & more convenient, too.

3) Amenities & Facilities: Great clubhouse, excellent grill with GREAT food, well stocked beverage carts. It is very conveniently located just north of ABQ off I-25. New pavilion for golf events, weddings, & the spa is being built, too. Short walk to the casino after your round if you are into that sort of thing.

4) Staff: Excellent pro shop staff, great teaching professionals (Matt Long & Matt Malloy), friendly servers on the course & in the clubhouse. The rangers & starters typically keep things moving without being obnoxious (I can't say that about most of the other courses in NM for some reason). They run excellent tournaments, too.

Over half the holes on this course are blind. You cannot see the landing area for drives, or sometimes second shots on the par 5s. And the landing areas are cut with dessert, barancas, waste bunkers, and the like. The GPS in the cart helps a little, but not enough. Time after time, it was hit a 3-wood (because I had no idea where a full drive would land even if I nailed it dead straight), then punch a high iron to somewhere safe if I couldn't reach the green... and often couldn't even see the green even though it was within reach with a long iron or 3 wood. The greens look pretty ragged but actually played relatively true, but it got old real fast laying up all the time because I couldn't see anything more that 150 yards away. Maybe if I'd played with a local, he/she could have told me what was out there, or I could have had a really slow round by exploring ahead with the cart, but overall, it's a course to which I won't return.
