Love the Rails... the Rail Runner was not in Albuquerque when I was here 20 years ago. (Happy 15th Anniv. Rail Runner). I was in Albuquerque for a week-long break and took the RR from ABQ to Santa Fe for breakfast and returned back to ABQ. Parking was easy, onboard staff were pleasant. Clean cars, comfy seats.
Great ride especially for the money, I was surprised there were not more riders. I was mid-week & mid-morning but thought there would be more riders.

Thanks Rail Runner for the whistles and scenery... I would say the clickity-clack, but it was a smooth & quiet ride!

My husband and I had left the train after a peaceful trip from Albuquerque to Santa Fe when he discovered he had lost his wallet on the train! We knocked on doors and windows until finally I spotted an employee climbing down from the locomotive. I explained our problem and he offered to search for the wallet. I had accidentally directed him to the wrong car, but he was willing to try again--and he found the wallet! We were so relieved--and grateful that he was willing to take the time to help us. He even refused our offer of a reward.

I ended up utilizing the Rail Runner upwards of six times total during my spring break New Mexico trip. It takes riders to and from the main NM cities of Albuquerque and Santa Fe, and locations in between. Since I’m disabled and currently unable to drive, taxis/Uber are too expensive; planes aren’t feasible between these two places; walking is obviously out of the question; and boating...well, you get the picture, lol. So the most convenient option for me (and others too!) is by far the Rail Runner train. Read on to become convinced (and EXCITED!) to try the train:

- With pre-COVID schedules amounting to (~) a dozen pickup/drop-off times per day and pandemic schedules just half the normal timetable, the accessibility of using the service is quite strong and efficient. Some station stops are currently suspended (as of March 2021), but I suspect they’ll return by summer. Albuquerque’s downtown transit center (shared by Amtrak and local buses as well) provides a relatively safe, easy method of access.

- Staff aboard the train are kind, outgoing, and eager to help.

- Pricing is very reasonable; see online for up-to-date fares by age, condition, and exact route.

- As a wheelchair user, I’ve taken numerous trains across the US before—and the Rail Runner is by far the simplest and most hassle-free for any physically-challenged person. I feel the Rail Runner should be recognized more for their accessibility efforts, because I sure was blown away! Kudos to the company for ensuring quality wheelchair access procedures and infrastructure.

- Scenery is unbelievable en route, in either direction. Now I understand locals see the mountains and the deserts and the grasslands all the time, but seriously...first timers to the state will be awe-struck. Put down your phones and glue your eyes to the window!

- COVID health measures were admirably followed on the train and at the stations. Masks were clearly required and enforced, and social distancing was guaranteed by blocking use of every other train seat. Keep it up!

- Trains were always on time, and the tracks were extremely smooth, making the ride comfortable and too short for how much I loved the experience!!

Overall, whether you need the Rail Runner or not, I highly recommend everyone give it a try. I had no regrets the many times I took this mode of transportation. Check it out now!

I have rode this train before, but things have changed. The train is really showing it's age. It was also dirty. Windows haven't been washed in ages. Then when you get to Santa Fe, the two guys running the station should be fired. Not friendly or helpful. They need replaced.

The trip is described as "scenic". I would not describe it as such since it is fairly much the same as one sees all around Albuquerque. However it was an efficient way to get back and forth. Goes through lots of extremely poor areas .

We went from Santa Fe to Albuquerque . Fantastic scenery and value, only $9 one way including free buses in Albuquerque. Lovely staff. Very limited trains, so must check timetable.

We had too many people for one car, so we decided to take the train. It was so much better than driving. It was convenient and the scenery was great. We had a lovely visit to Santa Fe and a great train ride back to ABQ as well.

The Rail Runner provides an inexpensive and relaxing way to get between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. It runs between downtowns and offers the opportunity to visit Santa Fe for a day without the hassle and expense of taking a car. There are also good connections in Albuquerque to the airport and other areas.

No seats available so we had to stand all the way to Santa Fe from Bernalillo. Daughter got sick and a friend gave up his seat, but no one else did so. Price was expensive times 3 people; I could have put a half tank of gas in my car and made the same trip!! I continue to be disgusted that our Governor subsidizes this system that is under-utilized and continues to take dollars from other programs that better serve our state, students, and senior citizens. STOP FUNDING THIS FIASCO!
