They let anybody in there there's no dress code whatsoever. Lot of rough-looking people. No poker mostly slots. Not a very fun time looks like more drama at this place then actual fun and excitement I would highly recommend any of the other casinos around town.

Lots of slots machines. Smoke wasn't too bad, but smoke free would be much desired.
Don't know why there are no gaming tables but has instead, has boring computer table gaming.
Real staffed gaming tables would make this a more attractive casino.
We gambled sparingly, and lost.
We ate at the Downs cafe. We had the $6.99 chicken dinner. Not fabulous, but worth the money. There is a Sunday buffet
that we would like to try.
The Downs lounge offers Karaoke and bar happy hours I believe on Tuesday and Wednesday.
My problem with this place is that it looks cheap and ugly. No ceilings in the cafe or lounge. Just black ductwork. Cheap cafe tables and uncomfortable hardwood chairs to sit on. The place needs a complete remodel job. Or perhaps it is what it is because the clientele doesn't care and neither do they.

Had a great time this weekend at the club at The Downes. Although there were not nearly enough wait staff, one could get a drink at the bar in about 10 minutes. The dance floor is huge, enough for whomever felt like "getting down on it." There was a terrific band (Black Pearl) whom we had just seen two weeks ago at Sandia. They played such different sets at Sandia with far less Spanish and country and much more hip hop so I liked them at Sandia better.
It wasn't too loud if you weren't right next to the dance floor. When it came time to eat, there wasn't much for my vegetarian diet. We ordered our old standby Green Chile cheese Quesadilla. It came out cold, dry and with chicken so we set it back. The next time it came out dry but at least warm. So hard to mess up this New Mexican favorite....even I can make a good one.

All in all a really fun night and would highly recommend if you are 50+, like to dance, can tolerate smoke (it was bad) and are looking for a fun night out with friends.

This casino is very sketchy, poorly run, and potentially dangerous. You find a large number of aggressive drug addicts, drug dealers, prostitutes, pan handlers, thugs
and the homeless population from the surrounding neighborhood. You really can not enjoy yourself because you are constantly pestered by people asking for cigarettes, change, to sell you something stolen, or just people loitering about watching as you play and not having any regard for someone else's personal space. Security isn't good in the casino or outside of the casino, not competent. Outside you see obvious homeless people with sometime multiple back packs hanging out in from of the casino or the parking lot, obviously loitering. Also, you often see thug like and homeless drugged out people riding through out the parking lot on bikes or walking in the parking lot looking for something on the grown, "tweaking" so to speak. As far as the visible security that you see in the parking lot, could care less. The management at this place needs to be completely revamped. It is not competent, it is out of touch and not accountable. This place is potentially dangerous.

The Downs is not a high-class, fancy place. It's nice to step into if you are hot from going to the fair, races, flea market, or strolling Central. The casino is just off of Albuquerque's main downtown street, so your neighbor at the machines might be a prostitute, or homeless person, begging for your money. (Yes, that's true. Happened to me many times).
They have the newest, and some old machines, there are no tables, plenty of free drinks, (coffee, sodas, if you are willing to go pick them up yourself). Servers are few and far between in the casino), great pizza, and good food and drinks in the bar.

For me, it's a little smokey, but I don't mind the surroundings at all. Most of the time, the staff tries to be nice and helpful. Once in awhile you will see a well-dressed couple, but if you want a fancy night out, go to Sandia or Isleta.

I'm not trying to knock the place too much, jus being truthful. It is what it is. I have been going 2 to 3 times a month since it opened. Even leaving as a winner once in awhile.
